Comments Policy

The purpose of the comments is to allow Newcastle fans and others to express their views on the news of the day concerning Newcastle United Football Club.

We ask all readers to respect other reader's opinions and views, even though they may violently disagree with them.

We have removed the editing capability for comments because it was one of the things slowing the site down, so from now on any comments that contain any foul language will not make it to the blog.

Let's also respect fans from other clubs, and remember they are only supporting their clubs as much as we support Newcastle, so there's nothing wrong with that, so let's have some civility to all our readers.

In general, we'd ask you to be civil towards other members and refrain from obscene remarks.

The key to all of this is to have something valuable to say, and as we've stressed above, it will help if you can be respectful in expressing it.

We want this site to be read by our younger generation of Newcastle United fans around the world, which is one big reason we cannot tolerate bad language.

Let's make this work - and let's help Newcastle United become great again.

Kevin Keegan handed in his resignation last night, and said he couldn't work in an environment in which he is not fully responsible for players coming and going at the club.

It would appear that owner Mike Ashley has sided in this with Dennis Wise, but it's hard for us to believe that Ashley has gone against the wishes of the Newcastle fans, the Newcastle public, the Newcastle players and the Newcastle City Council.

We don't think he's that naïve or stupid - and are therefore waiting to hear what he has to say about this whole episode, which has brought shame and ridicule on the Newcastle United Football Club, a club that many of us love and have supported all our lives.

We think Mike Ashley, at the very least, has to tell the Newcastle fans and public exactly what happened this week, because that's one of his responsibilities as the owner of our football club.

503 PROBLEMS AND TIGER

Our Ajax Edit Comments plugin this morning, Fri 29th Aug, was determined by Tiger Technologies to be responsible for producing some 503 Service Unavailable error messages we were getting.

We are getting terrific technical support from Tiger, and I cannot tell you how much it is helping us. They are willing to look at, and fix, problems anywhere, including in WordPress which we have never recieved with any other web-hosting site. And they seem to be able to exactly pinpoint where the problems are - very impressive.

I have now disabled this function, and we'll see if we perform better over the weekend.

But since I now have no editing capability with comments either, any comments that are sent to spam because of bad language will just be deleted from now on - makes it a lot less work for me - so keep the comments clean - for the youngsters.

The first thing we have to do is make the site really stable and be able to take the increased traffic we have received these last few weeks.

Interview Back In Time

This is an interview I did with a Fulham Blog Site before our game with Fulham last December.

I've never seen it before, but it's interesting where we were at that time - the Fulham game at Craven Cottage was on 15th December, adn the interview was given on the previous day.

I'm putting this up mainly because I got the score right.

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of time, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Juniors side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lass.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 25 years and in his last 10 years at the company entered executive management, where he ended up running IBM's Americas Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, now all in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition, and is an avid Newcastle United fan.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!
