Newcastle United Retro Shirt - 1927 League Champions

August 17th, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 6 Comments

We’re not celebrating yet, but as an 80-year anniversary and in light of the very positive start Newcastle United have made, I thought this was a suitable offer to put up on the site.

Newcastle Brown Ale have teamed up with retro football shirt company Toffs to produce a limited edition 80 year shirt. The shirt harks back to the Magpies’ 1927 season, the last time Newcastle won the First Division, which coincides with the year the construction of the Tyne Bridge began and the Newcastle City Hall opened.

Football shirts did not have sponsors until the 1970 season but the original Newcastle Brown Ale logo has been added to the one-off shirt to mark the fact that Newcastle Brown was first brewed in 1927.

Here’s the shirt itself:

Torn between a great shirt and the cut and run Scottish & Newcastle “ale” brand. And for buying the shirt down south, I bought it through the Sports Direct website.
