Newcastle’s Czech defender David Rozehnal is confident of being fit to face West Ham on Sunday.
David told www.nufc.co.uk yesterday that he is in some discomfort following Monday night’s game, but is still hoping to be in the line-up against West Ham United this weekend.
Let’s see what David, who’s one of Sam’s very best captures of the summer, has to say.

David Rozehnal - should be fit for Sunday
This is what David told the nufc.co.uk web-site:
“My leg was really painful after the game,” “I went in the air for a header and then came down heavily and got a kick.“
“But it was me who did it to myself and it came at a bad time during the game.†“But I hope I will be OK in time for West Ham.”
It was a tremendously physical game for David on Monday – up against Howard and Miller, but he has done well in settling down in the Premier league and we think he will just get better as the season progresses. He certainly seems to be able take the physical challenges that you always get in English football, even if it’s painful.
Newcastle are well endowed with tough center-backs this season in Cacapa, Taylor and Faye as well as Rozehnal, so if there’s any doubt with Rozehnal for Sunday, it’s probably wise to give him a rest for the day, since there are 3 games in 6 days coming up.
Taylor could then have a run out at center-back. As we mentioned yesterday, it’s going to be interesting to see just how much Sam will change the side that just didn’t produce on Monday night. We feel Sam will want to play both new boys Faye and Beye, and while we can see Beye coming in at right-back we’re not sure where Faye will get a game.
Abdoulaye did come on in central midfield to make his Newcastle debut on Monday night. However, we are not missing the defensive qualities Faye has - but need more creativity in midfield that only Barton and Emre - and maybe N’Zogbia can provide. It would be nice to perhaps give young Charles a run-out in central midfield. It’s worth a try because it can easily be changed if it doesn’t work. Charles seems to be able to do whatever Sam asks of him this season so as we said - it’s worth a try at least until Emre and Barton are fit again.
How do you think we can solve our lack of creativity in midfield until Emre and Barton are back?
Let us know - comments always welcome.

If there’s a doubt about Roz, BSA will rest him for Sunday’s game.
We’re crying out for creativity in the center of the park, so if Enrique doesn’t make it, maybe Taylor or Faye will play as we need Zog further up the park…..
Just hoping Enrique makes the grade and doesn’t turn out like other Spanish flops; Marcelino and Luque!

Rozy has been great for us so far, and if he is fit, then he must play. But if he’s not, we have plenty of options in the back, so maybe he deserves a rest before the 3 games in 6 period coming up.
I also aggree to let Zoggy start in midfield. We were obviously lacking creativity in midfield on monday, and if anyone can produce creativity, it’s zoggy. The downer here is that he wont be allowed as much time to pick his passes as he does from the back-position, but he will be fine. Milner is a given, and I think Geremi should play.
In attack, there is a different story for me. I would hate it if Ameobi is given another start, he still haven’t learned the offside rule, even my motherkows the offside rule. If he is picked because of his airstrength, then I think Martins can do at least the same amount of good as Ameobi. Martins is really strong in the air, despite his hight. Since Sam is sticking with the targetman/fastman combination, I would like to see Martins and Smith start the game. Give Martins a chance, and he will deliver. To much fuzz about Owen these days.
It will be a great game, I was there in january when we drew Hammers 2-2, and I really think we will come out on top after sundays game. We have a point to prove after the terrible game on monday, and the players know it.
Deffinitivly a win for our boys
Thanks for a great site, I visit many time a day. Very good quality on the articles written. Keep up the good work lads.

We’re having to wait a long time to see Enrique in action. I think I read somewhere that he had an injury. If he’s fit he should be given a game so we can check him out, but more importantly so Zog can play in midfield. I dont see any other option to the lack of creativity in midfield until Emre and Bart0on return.
Too late now but we should have kept Nobby for another 6 months.
4 Hadji // Sep 20, 2007 at 11:57
Lamesley Mag….I don’t understand how could you say about Luque,Marcelino yes but Luque no.
Luque is way way way better than Ameobi and Viduka. But playing under Roeder he fu*&^ed him self big time.
5 Rich // Sep 20, 2007 at 12:08
I wish we kept Nobby to January as well because we are so short of creativity at the moment,ur rite Hadji Luque is a much better player, if we still had him he could have been an attacking left midfielder just now but we are just going to have to get on with it until Barton and Emre are back in action! I think get N Zogbia on the left mid and use the wings to create more chances!
6 Rich // Sep 20, 2007 at 12:16
I wish we kept Nobby for another 6 months now as well he could have been the creater in the centre of the park or also used for some much needed width with N’Zogbia being used as left back but its done now so i really think we are just going to have to try and get emre and barton on the pitch as soon as possible.!
7 Chris // Sep 20, 2007 at 12:17
Hadji, i guess you havnt watch the toon when luque has played. I couldnt care less how he played in spain he’s shi* in the premier league and thats that. If you honestly cant see how a nufc supported might have a negative comment to make about Albert you really have been on another planet the past couple of years.
As for formations. You make your pick from the back four, preferably putting both preferred full backs in the best positions. i.e.enrique when fit and beye right back. The central pair are hopefully a luxury this season. All capable. As for midfield up. I would put ameobi at the back of my mind as a last resort (honestly how long must a player wait to reach some potential we’ve heard about for the last 8 years or so) i’d put the Zog on the left, move Milner to the right, play Butt in the middle with Geremi or Barton when fit then when Viduka is unavailable play Smith up front with Owen. Obiously the Martins or Owen combination is up for debate, im sure martins will get ample opportunities, especially when England games are on the horizon.

9 malaysian youngster // Sep 20, 2007 at 12:29
how is luque doing in holland?did he manages to score any goal?
10 Toon Chicken // Sep 20, 2007 at 12:31
Hadji - now you’re making exactly the same comments about Luque as you always do about Emre. In another time, at another club they did this, that and the other etc etc. World beaters and all the jazz.
The truth is they both did/have done diddly squat for the Toon - take off your rose-tinted spectacles mate and come and join the rest of us in the real world.
11 yemozone // Sep 20, 2007 at 12:43
luque in nufc is not better than Ameobi & viduka
12 malaysian youngster // Sep 20, 2007 at 12:45
rozenhal is my new fav player now. i like the way he play. he really put 100% into his game. when we counter attack he also got support. i expect a midfielder to be at his position when owen cross that nite. but our midfield just prefer sit in the middle of the park and let other shoot from distant. Owen only manage to touch the ball 14 times is not his fault. is the midfield who cant deliver to him. all rather to pass long ball to that Shola. who is a crap. useless. poor finishing and strength and alot more.
13 adaaaam // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:07
hew lads, gotta soo this murihno quote-
“It is omelettes and eggs. No eggs - no omelettes! It depends on the quality of the eggs. In the supermarket you have class one, two or class three eggs and some are more expensive than others and some give you better omelettes. So when the class one eggs are in Waitrose and you cannot go there, you have a problem”
what a leg-end
14 adaaaam // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:08
*see i mean (dunno what soo means!)
15 Ian // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:22
I would say that in the absence of much creativity in midfield, then Martins should be first choice up front. Owen is a much better predator - but he’s not getting the service. Martins has more ability to beat a man and make his own chances. Starting both of them is my preferred option.
16 yemozone // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:27
The only creative midfielder i know we can depend on is barton.Emre is not that creative .We had the same problem in midfield last season and emre was there.
Big sam just have to get another midfielder when the transfer window re-open.Maybe………… DECO
17 Cockney Magpie // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:34
i think we do not have a chice but yo field this team…
Given
Beye
Cacapa
Roz/Talys
Enrique
Milner
Geremi
N’Zog
Smith
Owen
Martins
makes the most sense to me and looks by far our strongest team at the mo, thats if big sam is playing attackin but if he plays more defensive we i hope he doesn’t, he will have faye instead of smith and hav him play behind the midfield
18 Cockney Magpie // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:36
people will say we need a big man up front to win the header but we have all seen how high martins jumps wiv a striker who can spring himself up tht much we dnt need a big man. we need to play oba and MO at the same time
19 Cockney Magpie // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:39
and about the creativity in midfield the reason we r missin it is bcoz it will mostly cum from barton and duff so we just need to be patient and wait
20 yemozone // Sep 20, 2007 at 13:50
Cockney magpie - i feel u .that’s true
21 Toon Chicken // Sep 20, 2007 at 14:02
Can’t remember Duff bringing anything to NUFC so far, least of all creativity.
I am looking forward to him being fit and available for selection - but the lad needs to pull his finger out and soon.
22 yemozone // Sep 20, 2007 at 14:20
Duff has really perform below expectation since joining from chelsea. But i think is going to make an impact under big sam.
The first mistake nufc made was to appoint graeme souness as manager when Sir Bobby was sacked. We are still feeling the pain till today.
We usually qualify for champions league b/4,now we even struggle to get a UEFA cup ticket.
I hope Big sam will bring back the good old champions league days.I really expect to us to qualify for the champions league with the squad we have now.
23 PK-Norway // Sep 20, 2007 at 14:28
Creativity Creativity creativity…..Emre is the right man no doubt..But for now we should play smith and Geremi in the middle Smith as an offensive midfield. And Start with Owen and Oba just for once and check how it works..I think they will be top..and start with Beye..and Zogbia needs to be moved to wing place quickly…AND BUTT AND AMEOBI stay OFF THE PITCH PLZ!
24 Danger Mouse // Sep 20, 2007 at 14:55
how bout that chap who plays CM for Sporting, Moutinho I think. Looked like he could be the business. Loads of creativity and always looking for the pass that unlocks the back four. Worth a punt.
25 apan // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:15
i think we need jose mourinho haha
26 PK-Norway // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:22
mourinho would have been nice
27 PK-Norway // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:23
Danger its such kind of players who we should get…but it never happens…:(
28 Gary // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:27
I think creativity in midfield is a problem but that isn’t going to change until barton returns. But I think we should start with owen(if fit) and martins up top with milner down the right and zog down the left as smithy on the right just doesn’t work as he comes inside all the time. I think Beye will start right back and although I don’t agree with it play tayls at left back just so we can play charles further forward, if it doesn’t work it’s easily changed.
we need the three points in this game, come on lads!!!
29 yemozone // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:32
we dont need mourinho.i am very sure u will not like to watch boring football in st james park.
30 Todd MacGregor // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:35
Is it too late to sign Deco?
In all seriousness Cockney’s lineup works for me but it’s either Viduka or Shola instead of Owen due to fitness. If Viduka is still out then it is the all Nigeria front with Smith as a shadow striker. On the other hand, I might put Smith up front with Martins and put Shola behind the two of them come to think of it. Shola can be a decent set up man, can come in late for a header from a cross, and if he is back 10 yards from the front men it will be tougher for him to be offsides every 15 minutes…Milner Geremi and Zog in the middle is great going forward but pretty porous.
31 Pete // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:38
yemozone - what do you call the current football at sjp ?
32 Obafan // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:41
I really hope everybody at the club has the feet on the ground again. Because to be honnest things were going a bit too good to be true. Changing a team and a staff is something that takes a lot of time and our start was / is good, but we have to build further on that. The loss at Derby on Monday was a painfull one, especially because of the way we performed, but if we can get the spirit back to stick together and to fight like a strong squad then I think we will be stronger than before the Derby game.
If Roz can’t play then I should play with Cacapa en Faye in the center of our defence. Taylor was really bad on Monday and IMO he doens’t deserve to start on Sunday; the same with Ameobi who should not be in the selection of 15 for Sunday. What a waste of space he was last Monday.
Given
Beye - Roz (Faye) - Cacapa - Enrique (N’Zogbia)
Geremi - N’Zogbia - Faye - Millner
Owen - Martins (hope he plays so he can proove BS was wrong)
33 Pete // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:47
Everyone talks about how well we have done, but I just don’t see it.
Beating Bolton was a decent result (but if you look at the standard they are playing to then anyone could of beat them).
Drew to Villa @ home, anyone who watched it saw that villa had the upper hand throughout - bad result but we were lucky to come away with a point.
Drew Boro, this is the pretend derby match, thought that sam could motivate the players - he didn’t. We should of won since there were like 5 boro fans there.
Wigan - really expected us to beat - got a lucky goal towards the end.
Derby - says it all really.
I think we have been very lucky with how the results have gone, things are not looking rosey at all for us, FS has got rid of any attacking flare that we might of had (Dyer, Luque etc) and replaced them with defenders.
I suppose you can blaim it on injuries, but if we are really dreaming of champions league then surley we need strength and depth.
34 nightfall // Sep 20, 2007 at 15:56
no emre, no deco, no…dwarfs… those are players who need space…PL is not for them… the only 2 phenomen are fabregas and scholes and that’s because they played here ever since they were kids… so… emre can’t even play as AML…he’s waaaaayyy too slow… just sell him… for our AMC we need speed & skill or strenght & skill….or all in one…
so…who fits the profile??
35 iain // Sep 20, 2007 at 16:04
pete your right there hasnt been a performance yet that has made me happy not even vs barnsley in the cup when we were average again.
the good things i suppose is we are getting some points without playing well, but sams style of football leaves a lot to be desired. the set pieces are beyond usless despite sam priding himself on them and he promised we wernt going to go the bolton long throw route but hes already lied about that. i dont even think in 6 games we have fashioned a chance from a long throw never mind a goal.
the way things are progressing/or arnt i cant see sam keepig his job next season unless they improve massivly.
if were not risking any players fitness for WHU i guess the tean should be..
harper
beye cacapa faye nzogbia
milner geremi butt troisi
smith martins
and hoping enrique/viduka/owen/given/rozehnal are all 110% ready for arsenal.
36 yemozone // Sep 20, 2007 at 17:16

Cockney magpie - agree with your line up. When we play with viduka or ameobi upfront it gives the defence an easy option of hoofing the ball up to them instead of passing it about. Owen + martins to start against west ham

41 Aussie geordie // Sep 20, 2007 at 21:10
Luque would have done better than Ameobi given the chance. He had more natural skill, a far superior first touch ( though my dog has a better first touch than Shola) and lets face it more potential to score than Shola. Shola says he has passion but he always looks like shit on the field. Always going after a ball from a standing start never on the run already.
42 JJ // Sep 20, 2007 at 22:28
Basically, everyone agrees Shola is not good enough…why oh why cant the managers see that, is he incredible in training or what? Owen is injured so.
mt side would be:
——————–Given
Beye—-Roz/Tals——–Cacapa—-Edgar
Milner——-Geremi—-Butt——–Zogbia
———–Smith————Martins———-
Best attcking midfield player to buy would be Kevin Nolan, or if we could ever manage it by far the best Tim Cahill.
43 The Big P // Sep 20, 2007 at 22:36
Must say I am feeling more confident about the back four by a long way. But!!! We don’t provide alot at all.
The thing standing out to me is that smith is on the right and what has he done there??? Nothing. Again and again, nothing. Milner on the other hand has been pushed to the left. And when did he last have a good game??? He is a great provider of crosses from the RIGHT. N’zogbia also has too much to do playing every game from left back. When he is on form he is as good as Milner as a provider of crosses.
Owen can stand in the box all day long watching Newcastle play badly.
Patience, yes it is early days. New players, new managers, Barton, Duff Emre unavailable.
We need to see a better Newcastle performance soon, I agree with Pete no great performances just a few results.
44 Doctor 129 // Sep 20, 2007 at 23:10
I’m a very happy mag at the moment. The reason? - Shola Amoebi. At long last people have began to see that he is simply not good enough for NUFC and the tide has turned against him. I was abused for pointing this out in early August in this forum, but I can smile now. - Are you reading 9th June???
I hope Rozy plays, he and Cacapa look like first choice - and make S.Taylor look poor at the mo. Need to get more creativity in the middle without doubt. Does anyone know if you can get a new pair of legs for Peter Beardsley off e-b*y?

Hi Toony’s
Player’s should be rested after an absence from Newcastle. Sam should of had the game against Derby posponed. Newcastle where a shamble’s
And player’s who say they are loyal to the toon, should give up sex and alcahol, before each game say Friday and or the game before. Or they will be burnt out to a frazle !..

Ameobi’s performance against derby was one of the worst performances i have ever seen on a football pitch. He doesn’t deserve a seat in the ground let alone on the bench. Hope big Sam now notices that!
