Newcastle United have announced today that they will pay tribute to young Academy star Jordan Thompson at Sunday’s game against West Ham United.
The 15-year-old recently passed away following a long fight with cancer.

Jordan, who was from West Denton, was part of Newcastle’s Under 16 squad and had been signed with his home town club since he was 11 years old. We are very sorry to hear about this and we pass on our very best wishes to his family and all who were connected with Jordan.
As a mark of respect, the club has announced that Newcastle’s players will wear black armbands for Sunday’s game against West Ham. They will also celebrate Jordan’s life with a minute’s applause before the kick-off. Jordan’s family will be at the game and his Academy team-mates will also join the senior team on the field for the minute’s applause.
Newcastle United Chairman Chris Mort said today:
“Jordan was an excellent young player in our Academy and the staff were very pleased with the way in which he was developing, both as a player and a fabulous young man.â€
“Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends.â€
“As a mark of respect, the Club will be holding a minute’s applause before Sunday’s game.”
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce also paid tribute to Jordan:
“Newcastle United were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jordan Thompson on Saturday. From what I heard about Jordan, he was a very brave lad, extremely friendly, generous and caring despite his very serious illness which ultimately cost him his life.”
“What’s more he was a very talented footballer and I’m told he joined us at the training ground on a number of occasions last year where he was thrilled to meet a number of his heroes.”
“Our sincere condolences go to his family and friends at this very sad time.â€

We are really sad to have one of our youngsters pass away.

Thats an absoulete tragedy, puts all my problems into perspective!Rest in peace Jordan. All my thoughts are with his family at this time, hopefully we can beat West Ham for him on Saturday!!
