Sam Allardyce gives a first start to right-back Habib Beye to the exclusion of local youngster Steven Taylor – who is on the subs bench. Sam also welcomes back Mark Viduka into the starting line-up while Jose Enrique is included among the substitutes after finally recovering from his hamstring injury.
Nicky Butt will make his 500th career appearance and 21 year-old winger James Milner the 200th of his career.

Still not happy that Smith is on the wing with Butt and Geremi in CM slots, but hopefully the Derby game will have given them a kick up the arse.
Fingers crossed that Enrique is fit enough to see the second half where hopfully we’ll line up as follows:

Viduka doesnt seem to be winning many of the balls in the air when they’re being kicked up field, I have to say. The midfield of Geremi and Butt dont seem to be winning anything in the air when going forward but they are defending quite well. Smith seems lost again as well.
Beye does look great with the speed he’s showing when we’re used to the grandad (Carr)!!
We need to get more balls played through the midfield on the ground.
Fingers crossed for another goal for the Toon soon!

viduka’s done more with the ball so far than shola did all game in the derby match .
his strength on the ball is great, holds the ball up very well for us .

As soon as Geremi, Butt or Smith get the ball they look underconfident in going forward so end up passing the ball back to the defence. Ball then gets howked upfield and West Ham take possession! D’Oh!

What is Harper gonna do to that goal? Ashton gets too much space to turn and score, with Butt and Rozehnal looking. Harper can’t cover all of the goal.
1-1 now but not the end of the world. Halftime is coming up, and after the tea, we will hopefully see Martins on the pitch.

Half time analysis. Midfield not working as it should (for the 3rd game ina row!!). I think either Butt or Smith needs to come off; hopefully Enrique can come on in 2nd half so Zog can push forward.
Defence (apart from a bit of ball watching for th Ashton goal) have looked very good…I’m so impressed with Cacapa and Rozenhal. Beye looks very speedy down the right as well, and of course Zog has set up both goals so has had a great half!
Owen has been good, but Viduka has really come into his own as the half has gone on.
Harper has looked dodgy with his positioning a couple of times, but has made 2 great saves as well so has saved himself.
2nd half no doubt we’ll see Martins at some stage - for Owen I would think if he’s harbouring an injury.
Final score 2-1. If they score again, I think it will be 3-1 as we’ll fight back to get another hopefully.

Geremi keeps on forgetting his man in midfield. Cacapa needs to be more decisive. Milner is just so slow should improve his direct play. Need pace upfront!

Toonking - spot on for subs needed. I reckon Owen will come off at the 65 min mark unless he is feeling some pain now in which case it may just be a swap at half time like you say.
I’m not too sure just how fit Enrique is, so I think BSA might reserve the Butt/Enrique swap for the chance that we concede again.

Yeah Sam needs to shake up the midfield and the only way i can see that being done is bringing on Enrique and moving Zog in the middle.
We may be leading but we need to improve in the second half.
Owen isn’t getting enough balls so imo Martins needs to come on with Jose, these to subs will change the look of this game imo.

why we can’t play without viduka at the moment is because viduka can hold up play to buy time for our midfield to get up and support no one other than viduka can do this well. not shola. So without viduka we should play differently.
