Newcastle vs Tottenham Teams: Emre Starts

James Milner is on the bench tonight and doesn’t start for Newcastle in tonight’s game against Tottenham. Sam elects to start Geremi and Butt in the center of midfield and Emre is in the starting line up. Martins and Owen start up front for the Magpies. Rozehnal and Joey Barton are both on the bench, but there’s no place in the 16 for Steven Taylor. It looks like Geremi may play wide right in a 4-4-2 formation. It’s an unchanged back four and goalkeeper from the Everton game.

Martin Jol has opted to start with Darren Bent and Robbie Keane in attack for Tottenham Hotspur. Berbatov is on the bench. Radek Cerny starts in goal, with a back four of Pascal Chimbonda, Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Lee Young-Pyo.
In midfield are Steed Malbranque, Jermaine Jenas, Didier Zokora and Gareth Bale.

Teams:

Newcastle: Given, Beye, Faye, Capaca, Enrique, Geremi, Butt, Emre, N’Zogbia, Owen, Martins
Subs: Harper, Rozehnal, Barton, Milner, Ameobi

Tottenham: Cerny, Chimbonda, Dawson, Kaboul, Lee, Malbranque, Jenas, Zokora, Bale, Bent, Keane
Subs: Forecast, Tainio, Lennon, Gardner, Berbatov

JJ (Grudgingly) Congratulations I think you just about deserved it although our (non) try would have made a difference. It was a game worthy of the final. Next big thing for SA is the world cup in 2010. Just hope we are there as well.

  • 5 Bill f // Oct 22, 2007 at 19:56

I’m a little surprised to see Shola on bench, might have been better with Stevie.

  • 34 Howie // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:49

shrugged off dawson and from an enrique pass

  • 35 Kevin // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:50

Such an important goal at such an important time. Lads - remember the last two seasons? That was the crucial time in the match which we’d ALWAYS give up goals - and this season, that has changed. Well done Oba, and now Sam can wrap his mind around the second half and make the appropriate changes. Let’s go BOYS!!!

  • 36 SteveD // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:51

Have to say I’m impressed with out defence tonight, it’s looked quite solid which must be reassuring to Given.

Owen’s shot was unlucky, Martins needs some lessons in how to stay on his feet but took the goal really well.

Zog has looked good, as has Geremi. Suspect Barton on for Emre @ half time, looks like he took a kick early on and BSA is likely to rest him.

Service to Owen needs to improve though. God time for the goal right on half time and I agree with you Howie, wake up after your half time oranges ;)

  • 37 Howie // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:51

we should be able to score again. spuds dont look the best defensively

  • 38 toonoholic // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:53

    totenham are a league apart

the league is coca -cola !

Hahahah were gonna sack Jol hahahhahah

  • 40 azza jones // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:54

Geremi has been rubbish tonight and milner needs to come on in the second half, maybe barton for emre in the 70th minute 2-0 to the toon!

  • 41 JJ // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:54

Best Players in the game for Newcastle have been Casapa, Faye, Butt, and Martins. Isay Martins not only cos he scored but because his made some great runs off the ball and just asnt been found… Owen really should have passed instead of shooting, but I think he’s too desperate to score to prove critics wrong. Hope thats not the case. Poor final ball but Newcastle have looked hte better side. Although Tottenham have looked very very poor. Hoping they stay poor in the second half. Would like to see Milner come on for Geremi in second half and Barton for Emre on 60 mins. I fancy a 3-1 win for Newcastle based on first half.

  • 42 toonoholic // Oct 22, 2007 at 20:56

    u forgot enrique ?

  • 43 azza jones // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:00

faye and cacapa have looked solid for the last two games that may be our partnership…..

Beye needs to get motoring up and down the line!

  • 44 SteveD // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:00

@ JJ, agree the defence has looked good tonight want to see Barton on for Emre 2nd half, never mind 60 minutes, great save from Keeper against Owen BTW.

I want 2-0 clean sheet to inspire defence further

  • 45 evildick // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:01

i think thats a bit harsh on geremi, he’s been everywhere tonight. His throw-ins have been better too. I’d like to see barton on for emre on 60 minutes and milner on for geremi on 75mins.

    howay!

  • 46 SteveD // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:04

@ evildick, yep, agree re Geremi he’s been solid tonight, scrappy game, too much played in the air, want to see more across the turf, into Owen’s feet.

  • 47 Tom_Toon // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:04

    WDF!

  • 48 toonoholic // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:05

yeah why did we remove nzoggy ?

  • 49 JoshI // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:07

Zog is off for milner :S

  • 50 Southern_Magpie // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:07

    Must be an injury

  • 51 Obafan // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:07

Enrique smetimes akes it very hard; he not always chooses the easiest solution, so is N’Zogbia. But what a fantastic long ball by Jose, fantastic drop behind Dawson.

Faye and Cacapa are 2 rocks in the center of our defence and also Beye is very good.

Butt is really working hard and playing good.

Emre is a bit searching at his technical skill. He needs to have the ball more to open up the weak Spurs defence.

Martins is working really hard and is always a danger.

Owen created a good chance, but a good save held him from an early 1-0, but he is doing his job IMO.

I’m glad Millner is on the bench, cause IMO he hasn’t prooved anything.

  • 52 SteveD // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:08

unsure - he’s played great 1st half, tactical my @rse

  • 53 Southern_Magpie // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:09

  • 57 Ed Harrison // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:12

    Cacapa scored the second.

  • 68 Soren // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:18

why do we always have dodgy moments in defence which costs us goals??? its damn annoying

  • 69 SteveD // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:19

We need to win games like this, the game @ Derby was another such example. Plenty of confidence for the defence IF we keep a clean sheet tonight and from what I’ve seen there’s no reason to believe otherwise.

While we might not gain any places in the tavle tonight we can at least put some clean space between us and Villa in 9th

COME ON LADS, time to delivery.

    [B*st*rd Keane! 2-1] Lucy sod!

  • 70 JoshI // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:20

  • 73 Soren // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:24

  • 74 JoshI // Oct 22, 2007 at 21:25

we are collapsing :( why can’t we do anything well?

  • 106 Tripp // Oct 22, 2007 at 22:14

Likewise Bill. The worst was knowing what the time was. Once wor Milner scored, however, it was far more bearable.
