Newcastle could well be without both Emre and James Milner again for the trip to Manchester United on Saturday, after they missed the Cup Tie with Stoke last night at the Britannia Stadium.

Emre - struggling with an ankle knock
Creative midfielder Emre is now struggling with an ankle injury and winger James Milner missed out through illness, which looks like it was a chest infection.
Alan Smith played in central midfield and Damien Duff played down the right wing. And it looked a balanced team with Charles N’Zogbia on the left wing and the solid looking Jose Enrique finally starting at left back. After the injuries clear up we really hope Sam continues with Enrique and N’Zogbia at left back and left wing respectively.
They both looked good in their natural positions last night, and Charles is a lot more threatening to the opposition on the left wing, that’s for sure. We would even like to see Charles given a run out in central midfield. He’s certainly a bit of a dynamo these days with his drive and skill. He also played great there against Juventus in pre-season.
However, things may not change much before the Old Trafford game as manager Allardyce told the Newcastle club’s website today:
“James has a chest infection and Emre got a knock on his ankle so we’ll have to wait and see if they are OK for next week’s game at Man United,”
“Habib Beye has injured his hamstring but is going away with Senegal for the African Cup of Nations, as now is also Abdoulaye Faye.”
It’s a pity about Emre, because we need some of his creativity right now in our midfield, and Sam just hasn’t played him nearly enough since Barton has been out. Since it’s only a knock we would hope he’ll be available for the Manchester United game.
Comments very welcome.

Hope Emre is ok, i really feeel sorry for the guy, he hasnt been given a fair chance at all, when he comes on he usually looks good, the fans love him and he gets treated like this! I would love to see him hit top form and stick it right up big sams ass!

That means the utd game line up will be:
Given
Roz Taylor Capaca Enrique

more likely to be
Given
Roz Taylor Cacapa Enrique
Duff Smith Zog
Owen Viduka Martins
seeing as sam has supposedly got a deal with nigeria to have martins for this game, he’s unlikely to start him on the bench.

the team will be

Butt is allowed to ply againt man utd and is not allowed to play against stoke and bolton due to suspension.

for me Millner has been looking tired of late the rest may re energise him, when on his game he is one of our best players.
Is it me or does Emre often bottle it when the chips are down? Pity cos i think he is our best player!
6 aaron d // Jan 7, 2008 at 12:25
Is it a rumour that Martins is back for Man Utd game or is it true? Heard that we had some agreement with Nigeria that if he could go early could come back for this game?
Tom_Toon very much doubt Lua Lua will be starting against Man Utd, to be honest i would like him to.
Team for Man U

He won’t go to Old Trafford and play 4-3-3 - he’s stupid but not sucidal. It will be 4-5-1 with both Martins and Smith in midfield, Owen up front on his own.

just the news we needed……
, do we even have 11 players left ???
9 Kash2 // Jan 7, 2008 at 12:29
@Rich - Emre has been given so many chances for Newcastle but so many times he has went missing in games. We don’t need him being so deep and tackling back every chance he gets. We need him further up the pitch gettting on the ball and threading passes into strikers and wingers. Not once has he controlled a game. He is NOT a PLAYMAKER. Playmakers control games with passing and movement as does Scholes, Fabregas, Lampard, Elano, Gerrard, Anderson, Arteta, Barry, Kranjcar etc etc etc. Loads of teams have them, but Emre doesn’t meet the standards of these players!
10 James // Jan 7, 2008 at 12:36
Emre was a Souness buy - enough said. Get rid of him
11 ELFER // Jan 7, 2008 at 12:55
you can absolutely not be serious about emre?? he did not taken his chance…I think he’s a too soul driven player sometimes outstanding but to often not good enough…unfortunately I have to say we should sell him and get a PL quality player in exchanche…but all in all it lefts us defence and chanceless against MANU, which will end up in a disaster…
12 MOY // Jan 7, 2008 at 13:03
He’s the only player we have left that’s actually creative…I don’t see how we can replace him unless we actually get someone who can create , instead of destroy…Speaking of which , we seem to have a truckload of destroyers…
13 James // Jan 7, 2008 at 13:09
Emre is a racist and should be kicked out of the club.
He will be sold in the summer regardless of Sam

Quotation from Arsene Wenger after yesterday’s match against Barnsley.
“Foreign players need six months to adapt to the Premiership”
Yes Arsene that makes sense, good point.
Big Sam:
“Foreign players need six months to adapt to the Premiership”
No Sam stop making excuses you useless fu***ing c£nt…
My point being that Sam is in a no win situation,
everyone was saying at the start of the season what a class player Rozenhal looked and how bad he was yesterday, with so many players coming in from different leagues and with pressure from the fans to play like Brazil it is little wonder we look shite at times.
16 James // Jan 7, 2008 at 13:22
Foreigners usually take a full season to adapt. Look at Vidic and Evra. Both were criticised constantly in their first year as crap defenders. Now they are amazing. Remember for foreigners they have to adapt to a new country, language, lifestyle, weather. It’s only in the second season they can be judged properly.
17 Pete // Jan 7, 2008 at 13:25
Sam has made his choice on numerous occations this season. Doesn’t really matter if Emre is fit or not, he wouldn’t get a spot anyway. Sam obviously prefers destruction over creativity and positive play. That said, our midfield will be pretty much the same as against Stoke with Smith/Butt making up the centre midfield pair. We can only hope that he’ll go all out and put N’Zogbia in CM.
Given
Rozenhal - Taylor - Cacapa - Enrique
Smith - Butt - N’Zogbia
Owen - Duke - Duff
in the typical 4-3-3/4-5-1 fashion. Highly doubt it tho and fully expect him to drop Zog back to LB for this match

the team lacks balance…butt is apparently our playmaker..its a joke he is agood player but hes not a playmaker..we need barton unfortunately..Smith is apparently untouchable so he needs to play up front and e´we need anew central midfielder -one with flair and can actually pass it upfield.
20 Kash2 // Jan 7, 2008 at 13:31
Right fair enough it takes upto a season to for players to adapt to league conditions. But it doesn’t stop them from getting on the pitch and playing passes about accurately to you’re own players. Fair enough we could be leaking goals, but does it take a season to be able to figure out how to play passes around so that it eventually arrives at a strikers foot?

we should be buying players where we have only one decent player (right wing and right back) but we shouldnt be doing that bad because pompey have only got 14 players and add injuries to that and they will only have a starting line up.
43 Micky Toon // Jan 7, 2008 at 14:23
You see, the comments here are exactly why Sam should stay and why he is justified in what he says. People say Milner should be playing, further down the page we get Milner is crap and can’t pass. Emre should play he’s our best player, hold on no he isn’t he’s crap and can’t pass. The comment about Emre being a Souness signing, so therefore he must be poor is laughable. Martins was a Roeder signing, does that make him crap? Milner, Taylor, N’Zogbia, three of our most gifted young players came through with previous managers, does that make them crap? It seems to be the logical conclusion. Some people are just wanting Sam to fail no matter what we do. I can’t believe people are wanting us to lose so he is closer to going out the door. What kind of support are you when you don’t want the team to win? Losing is no good for the team. Sam leaves now, what do we get? Terry Mac? Because that’s all who would be left after Sam’s backroom army leaves with him. If we are still playing poor come next Christmas then we should start and make noises. However to judge a manager on less than 6 months in the job is moronic.

i have no problem with sam staying but the teams below us have started to things round. all the teams who have changed managers have moved up the table. tottenham, bolton have done well and even derby look like a better team. if we dont get it together next season we could be relegated but we are fortunate to have rubbish teams below us.
47 James // Jan 7, 2008 at 15:01
Micky Toon - Sam will be sacked in the summer.
I agree with most we should have stability and a long term manager - just not him.
At his very best in the long term he would be able to turn us into a battling hard team to play against top 7 team. But with our resources and support we demand top four and challenging for honours. Sam has neither the tactical skills or attacking style of footaball to achieve that. But the main reason he will be sacked is that he is not who Mort and Ashley chose. Any success with him would be credited to Shepherd and they wouldnt want that.
48 ToonKing // Jan 7, 2008 at 15:56
Hey remember that 17 year old hungarian kid who was on trial at St James not so long ago ?? Apparently the Hammers are trying to sign him, so he must be decent at least. Come on Sam get him.
49 Graeme // Jan 7, 2008 at 16:07
Personally, I dont rate Emre at all, there are much better player around, with have the injuries and twice the commitment.
Why dont we just go and buy 2 really good players and have done with it. As said many times, I think Baptista would add bite and drive to a crap midfield. He has proved he can play in the Prem and wants to come back. What about it Sam??
50 steve // Jan 7, 2008 at 16:09
I can’t understand why people think all of Sams backroom staff would go if he was sacked, surely they are on contracts.
Half the problem in this country is the lack of continuity when a manager leaves or is sacked, we should change to a european model where only the head coach / manager is sacked and all backroom staff stay put - I doubt Sam would get a glamour job after toon so doubt people will follow him
51 Tom_Toon // Jan 7, 2008 at 16:13
Baptista adds bite, as he was a defensive midfielder at the beggining of his career and play as a deep lying forward, but not in one sense is he creative.
Butt and a Creative player for me.
Dudu would be sam type of creative player, and if he took up that option i wouldnt be opposed. Dudu, 6ft 2, strong as an ox, great at spreading the play, still prefer arshavin though.
52 Tom_Toon // Jan 7, 2008 at 16:15
steve - exactly, and if the manager who comes in did want to change them, he would do it gradually so its not like we are paying 20 mil straight away, more like 7.5mil to get rid of fat sam.
The backroom staff have the skills but as only as good as the manager handles them and tells them what to do and work on.
53 Obafan // Jan 7, 2008 at 16:15
Milner needs a rest and will not play.
Emre if he is injured or not, he doesn’t get a chance by the fat donkey. So it doesn’t matter at all.

I think any team we play with smith and butt in the middle we will lose or get a lucky draw. The defence is looking better, but they are getting murdered by the constant bad passing and the gifting of the ball to the opposition.
someone remarked that Zog was greedy, if I had the ball I would want to keep it rather than give to those 2 idiots, who are just going to lose it. they offer absolutely nowt in that position and are a complete liability, NOW WE HAVE 2 GREAT FOULERS THE MIDDLE TO HELP THE OPO OUT.
It is really starting to boil my piss watching the consistent incorrect team selection by PSA.
WHY CAN’T YOU SEE IT & FIX IT SAM??????

I agree Butt and Smith are costing us games. We become so one dimensional simply because we cannot attack through the centre with those two dummies there. Butt is a good efender but does nothing once he gets the ball so we should get rid. Put Faye there and have Cacapa and Taylor in defence. Smith should be replaced by N’zogbia, with Duff on the left and Lua Lua or Milner on the right.

i guess im hoping that instead of just rushing to buy quick fix players that may or may not adapt (i reckon theyve just been lucky so far) for big money that we’re building really solid foundations that will mean we have a completely solid squad in the future. we need to get the basics right before thinking about splashing the cash like we have in the past.
