Mikael Sylvestre Proved Right On Barton

January 8th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 16 Comments

Sam Allardyce was after Mikael Silvestre of Manchester United in the summer, along with team mate Wes Brown, as two defenders he would loved to have signed for Newcastle United.

Mikael Sylvestre - seems right about Joey Barton

But the experienced Frenchman rejected Sam`s offer, and made it very clear to everybody why he didn’t want to come to the Newcastle club.

Sylvestre is good friends with Ousmabe Dabo, who was battered by Joey Barton in early April during a Manchester City training session. Joey will face criminal charges on this assault - scheduled to start this June.

Mikael said he was unwilling to play in the same side as Joey Barton, and it now seems like Sylvestre’s words have a sense of truth to them as Barton is again in trouble and rehab following his latest attack. That was against a couple of folks outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Liverpool at 5:30am on Thursday morning, a couple of weeks ago.

Silvestre said:

“When I said I wouldn’t go to Newcastle because of him, I was surprised by the reaction of people. But for me, it is normal to say what I think.”

“He should not have been allowed to stay in the game for what he did. It’s hard to make a judgment of someone like Barton, but he needs treatment. Now I know I made a good choice by not going there.”

Whether he will now be allowed to stay in the game of football is debatable, but of course nothing will happen until the trials have been duly completed. We have to consider Joey innocent of the charges, until proved otherwise.

Comments welcome.

All the fans and board said they didn’t want Barton. Only one man said he was worth it - Sam.

One of the reasons why Mort is reluctant to give Sam anymore money.

it is such a pity… Barton could have been a great player if he managed to control his temper! im glad he is getting psyciatric help, he clearly needs it.

Barton could be great if he had the ability to control his temper! he is mentally ill and is clearly unable to control his anger! such a pity

Barton is a waste of time and money.
Why is it newcastle who waste SOOOO much money!

I thought Barton would have been a good buy for our midfield. He has a great engine and can score some rockets from way outside of the box. Pity he has not put this into practice at Newcastle. As for him being inocent till proven guilty. I am in this line of work and and from what i hear, he is as guilty as a puppy sitting beside a pile of poo!!

Newcastle United should sack Joey Barton and he should be brought up for bringing the game into disrepute. If the penny hasnt dropped yet with everyone infolved with the game what he is about it never will.

A high percentage of Big Sams buys look suspect to me.
Barton should never have been bought. He’s a thug and has no place in the modern game.
Roll model for the kids, yeah right !
Obviously it takes time for players to adjust to the Premiership, but time is what we don’t have.
Watching Newcastle used to be a joy, now it’s no fun anymore.
Sam’s 5 year plan should involve buying players who want to play, have passion, and want to improve.
At present even the worst players in the Premiership get more in a week than the average Jo gets in a year, and they can’t even pass a ball.
I used to go and watch Newcastle to escape the misery of modern life for 90 mins, not any more.

Maybe Sam’s 5 year plan is to get fired, and take his lump sum and live in the sun.
    Who’s the fool ???

Simon P: The only good news about Sams 5 year plan is that he only has a three year contract !!!

Im glad Barton came if it kept Sylvestre out, he is absolutely terrible.

Tom Toon - very good point. At least Barton served some purpose.

Another Craig Bellamy, a Leopard can’t Change its spots,Difference is Bellamy could play a bit.Joey Barton dosent look a bit the player we whitnessed at Man City, another money grabbing player who’s settled into semi retirement at st james.

Barton is the biggest fool who runs around on an English pitch. And who does buy him?? Indeed, SA at NUFC. I always knew he was a timebomb, who could explode every second and it happenned.

Like mentionned before; get rid of him ASAP, cause he stopped Silvestre, but I’m sure other players will take him as a reason for not joining us in the future.!!!

regardless of the fact he is a brainless thug, he just never performed for Newcastle, he’s obviously lost his football talent as well as his mind.

Personally I wouldn’t sack him but put him on a mental health plan, then try and flog him to some other mug team

hahaha thats a good point tom toon

i am really disapointed about barton he could have been a newcastle legend if he was able to controll his temper and got to his best form we definatley didnt see the best of him u can call him a tw*t but he has problems he needs help badly its a shame

    inoccent until proven guilty?

sounds lik you think hes innocent Ed.

you dont know the circumstances of if or why Barton did these alleged things.

i know what the police and general ass holes are like in the UK and not everyone who gets harrassed by the feds is actually a bad person or has done anything wrong.

that said im not saying Barton should get away with it because he plays for our team but we know nothing.

    vented :p
