Jose Mourinho is far and away the most popular choice for manager of Newcastle United.
Jose Mourinho – thumbs up to Newcastle job? 😀
Our poll over the last 3 days showed that 34% of Newcastle supporters who voted in the poll wanted Jose Mourinho as Newcastle manager. Jose got 512 votes compared to second placed Ottmar Hitzfeld, who got 184 votes, and will retire from Beyern Munich at the end of the season.
There have been multiple reports that Jose was not allowed to manage in the Premiership until next season, and there was a clause inserted by Chelsea to that effect, when Jose left earlier in the season.
The Newcastle Evening Chronicle however, is reporting that Mike Ashley’s best friend Paul Kemsley, the former Spurs chairman, has mentioned that Mourinho is the overwhelming choice of supporters to the Newcastle owner, Mike Ashley. Mike is currently out on business in the Pacific Rim until next Tuesday.
However, the Newcastle Evening Chronicle has been told that Newcastle could get around that specific clause with a payment of around £1M to Chelsea. That’s less than the compensation we will have to pay to Portsmouth for Harry Redknapp.
It’s interesting that it’s being pointed out to Mike that Mourinho is the overwhelming choice of supporters. And of course in our poll Harry Redknapp got just 43 votes of a total 1511 votes cast. Perhaps that’s also being communicated to Ashley.
Hey, why wouldn’t we put together a package for Jose Mourinho of say £7M/ year and whatever else he wants – ww think he’d be worth it. He’d electrify Tyneside, that’s for sure.
That would seem better value than £5M/year for Harry wouldn’t it? And for those who say Jose would reject it out of hand – maybe he would – but it would be nice to know that for definite. Faint heart never won fair lady – think that’s what my mother used to tell me.
And for those who would complain that Jose doesn’t play exciting enough football – give us a break.
But seriously – what do you think?
Let us know – comments are always very welcome.

Comment #9We thought that was a very interesting fact the Chronicle put out last night and we haven’t seen it put out by other news sources. We’d be ecstatic to get Jose. But we’re dreaming – aren’t we?

Comment #12Somehow I don’t think £1m is correct, especially after chelsea had to pay him £20m to get rid of him… seems a little bit of a dodgy statement, don’t know where you got your info but I bet its 10x that amount, as chelsea will want to recoup some of what they lost & £1m isn’t anywhere near what they lost!!!
But if its true, then I’m up for him as manager.. lol

Comment #16£1m for a manager like this is chicken feed. But, like most story`s of late is it true.
Anul Oliver (A real smug bast***) and his ever increasing band of over self importance hacks, have got it wrong big style.
They have told us how Redknapp was definately signing. How he was on his way to meet the board!. How he was having talks with MA who was in china. How he was travelling to NUFC yeterday afternoon, yet 2 hours later was back at Pompy training ground. How he had been promised £30m transfer budget, £4m salary, all this crap and yet MA and CM very rarely say anything to the press. CM has not spoken to the press since SA left, and MA is in china, were he makes most of his money. All these hacks and their lies and not a word of truth between them.
I think that MA & CM know who their man is and no-one will find out untill they say something, doing it with dignity.
Remember this is not NUFCplc anymore, this a private company and with this new company, they have dismissed only one manager, the only one it has had, SA.
Under the plc it had 7 managers i think it was.
Under this new management of MA & CM i still pray that they come up with a special manager, and i hope it is KK with AS at his side, but some how i dont think this will happen, but in the mean time, lets boycott the papers especially Anul Olivers.

Comment #17Mourinho has stated a number of times that he would like to take on an underachieving club, with some good support and make them into consistant winners.
He considers it a true challenge of his ability, that chelski, with all its billions, couldnt provide.
I believe he would be an ideal manager for NUFC as he has a passion about him, that would unite the club behind him. He could be even bigger than Keegan was, make no mistake an that.
Just heard that Redknapp has formally declared he is not about to become manager of NUFC!!!! OH THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!!

Comment #31Thank the Lord! Rednapp is out I did’nt want anyone connected with fraud with our club. Hopefully Jose or Lippi to push us where we belong. Looking at it positively at least Mort and Ashley have not rushed into a decision and made a mistake. Come on the toon tonight against Man U

Comment #32Valle i knew it wasn’t a smoke screen, our board are simply out of their depth, they do not know what they are doing, and neither Mort nor Ashley seem to know a thing about football. They have handled it in typical business style, sack now, interview later. Arseholes the both of them

Comment #33valle, says who? ‘Arry could be a smoke screen. Do you honestly think that they didnt approach & have everything tied up prior to the ammicable departure?
Now fat freddie yeas i’d believe that – its happened before. However ashley & mort are business men. Tell me any large company who would sack upper management without firstly having a replacement?

Comment #34What a load of rubbish. As if he would come to us. Suppose we’ll sign Drogba, Lampard and Terry by feb as well. Face it – Harry was first choice and knocked us back. We’ll either end up with Mark Hughes or some other 2nd rate manager.

Comment #36i think it is pretty clear they didn’t trully want to sack sam now, they just didn’t want him spending anymore money in january on players who they didn’t think were worth it i.e. Kevin Nolan. They probably held a meeting with him stating that they would not give him money for many of his transfer targets, sam didn’t want the over the top interference from the board, argument blah blah blah, mutual termination. Newcastle back at square one

Comment #37I would absolutely love Mourinho to be our next manager. Personally, I find BSA’s sacking to be someone ludicrous. I felt we would have been better off waiting until the end of the season. It’s hardly as if we were set for relegation, and the pool of available managers would be bigger. But of the currently unemployed managers out there, Mourinho has a good record, is a fresh new personality, and doesn’t accept rubbish from anyone on or off the pitch. It’d be like combining Souness’ no-BS attitude, with a slightly tamed down version of Keegan’s love for attacking football. I would donate my week’s wages to help get Mourinho in, but I’m not getting much work at the moment, sorry fellas!!!

Comment #38This was not arranged and this is no smoke screen, the board are chasing experienced premier league managers out of desperation. What board would sack a manager half way through the January transfer window?

Comment #39I had high expectations of this new chairman but it seems he is just the same as the last. Sacking managers half way into the season and replacing them with English managers (Geordies in Fat Fred’s case).

Comment #40Well for one I am pleased that Redknapp isn’t gonna be our next boss – what concerns me though is the fact the he was asked in the first place.
There is a danger now of the next man Ashley & co. target will be a little peaved that they weren’t first choice over Redknapp.
Mourinho is obviously my first choice – i just hope that he is interested – even if its just so that i can collect my winnings – £20 quid on Jose at 25-1!!!
