After our result today we want to remind all our Newcastle readers to please register your vote for who you would like to be the next manager at Newcastle United. We have used our last disjointed poll as a qualification for this final one.
We have taken the top 5 managers from our last joint poll, and then included Mark Hughes, since he is apparently now Mike Ashley’s choice to get the job. We’ve also included Alan Shearer who finished 7th last time, but recent reports say he may be in the frame. Anybody else who isn’t included just didn’t get enough votes to qualify in our first poll. This final poll is in the column to the right at the top of our site - many thanks.

DONT VOTE FOR MOURINHO !
Doubtful that he would come, but more importantly he plays ugly football. Yes he wins - but the style is dire.
PLEASE STOP BEING HYPOCRITICAL.
Hope this helps.

I honestly dont think voting makes any difference at all.
We will end up with some two-bit second-rate tool and end up playing Championship football
And to be honest, it serves the players right.

4 Michael // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:22

7 Ginkoh // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:24
Do you think our vote result will effect to board decision ? how much we try to share opinion to board, It ’s no matter to them and they will appoint the man who they think he’s good not us.
Hope me wrong.

Hitzfeld (NAP)
9 John // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:29
Whoever comes in i hope the realize Butt is crap and isn’t worth anything like the 50 grand a week or something he’s on..One of the worst and most overrated players ive seen.. Please let the next boss have a brain and to play midfielders who actually know how to play football.
We were an absolute disgrace tonight and probably the laughing stock off the premiership..
BIG CLUB MY ARSE
10 mikey g // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:29

Why is everyone saying mourinhio, he was given a blank cheque book ,it was almost impossible for him to have a” bad” season!
15 carl // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:34
i say we have superman as manager with the A team as backup and proffessor hawkins as director of football, he could even do the tannoy announcements!
16 tommyy // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:36
noo the A team can be the player
17 Murvar // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:36
Mourinho has done his time taking his teams to the Wigans and Fulhams. Why would he want to go through that again? He’s proved he can do it and win championships here. Now he wants to pit himself against the best in Europe in the Champions League. If he came to us he wouldn’t be in Europe this season, or next season, and quite probably the season after that. And maybe longer. He would plan to be an international manager by then. Get real - he will not come to Newcastle - especially now he would be second choice to Harry Redknapp! Why would he? Why? We are an average club with big support. So what?? The support counts for us but you can get that in lots of places. We’re a cowboy outfit and the football world knows it.

Van Gaal has the best record of the lot……
19 John // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:49
witnit I agree, I think Lou Van GAal would play the newcastle way and put teams under pressure with fast flowuing football… I just hope he gets approached as im sure he would listen as he’s with Az Alkmaar which are’nt in our league for money or potential…
Still though , im never calling us a big club again until we REALLY are . ie. win something ..Challenge for champions league places, even challenge for the league title..Only then can you be known as a big club..
Derby County got a better result at old trafford..
Enough said
20 James // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:52
Van Gaal doesn’t have the better record than Mourinho. Jose has only just started out as a manager and already he is 5th in the all time managers list for winning the most trophies. Only Fergie, Wenger, Sven, and Capello are ahead of him.
21 witnit // Jan 12, 2008 at 20:54
James, you telling me Mourinho’s record is better than this irrespective of time served:
1 x Champions League: 1994-95 (with Ajax)
1 x Intercontinental Cup: 1994-95 (with Ajax)
1 x UEFA Cup: 1991-92 (with Ajax)
2 x European Supercup: 1995-96 (with Ajax), 1997-98 (with FC Barcelona)
3 x Dutch Eredivisie: 1993-94, 1994-95, 1995-96, (with Ajax) plus in 2003-04 (as Technical Director)
1 x Dutch Cup: 1992-93 (with Ajax)
3 x Johan Cruijff-schaal: 1993-94, 1994-95, 1995-96 (with Ajax)
2 x Spanish League: 1997-98, 1998-99 (with FC Barcelona)
1 x Spanish Cup: 1997-98 (with FC Barcelona)

Here’s Mourinho’s record, it’s quite close and i’d take Mourinho just not sure about his style of play…..
With F.C. Porto:
Portuguese Championships (2): 2002/03; 2003/04
SuperCup Cândido de Oliveira: 2003
Cup of Portugal: 2002/03
UEFA Cup: 2002/03
UEFA Champions League: 2003/04
With Chelsea FC:
FA Premier League (2): 2004/05; 2005/06
Football League Cup (2): 2004/05, 2006/07
FA Cup: 2007
FA Community Shield: 2005
23 Obafan // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:05
john - Yes Derby had a better result at Old Trafford than us. Stronger; Derby took more than 50% of their points against NUFC (4 out of 7) that is even a bigger disaster….
24 John // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:13

Witnit - But Mourinho just edges it because he won best dressed man in England 3 years running with Hello Magazine
28 Tom_Toon // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:23
Ed get rid of Mourinho as he wont come and Hitzfeld as he is going to be the new switzerland manager!
29 Obafan // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:26
Tom_toon - I’m afraid that you are right.
30 Pete // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:36
ufortunatly
31 valle // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:47
witnit… Would u agree that football have changed a great deal over the last 10 years?… U might look at the years in which Van Gaal was successfull and hold that up againts Mourinhos modern record. Im not saying his titles are worth any less, my point is that winning football has changed allot, and Mourinho is proven in recent years.
32 Gordon // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:51
Yep, agree with what is being said here: remove Mourinho, remove Hitzfeld (he’s staying at BAYERN until the end of the season - note the spelling Ed ;)) and get some feedback on realistic choices.
All this proves is we all want Mourinho and it’s wasting the vote.
I’m sure Alex Ferguson would get a lot of votes if you stuck him in there too…!!!
33 valle // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:53
Well ill bet Wenger would wipe em all off the board
34 die hard toon // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:54
Hitzfeld get my vote
35 John // Jan 12, 2008 at 21:59
Gordon, Agreed…I think a realistic vote should be there..Hitzfield, Morinho, should’nt be in there. Get a good picture of what people would really be satisfied with then
36 valle // Jan 12, 2008 at 22:01
Lol, seems im not the only one who dont like Geremi, here is Mourinhos opinion to Bobby…
Jose Mourinho told me last season that Geremi’s legs had effectively gone. “Mister, he plays like a 40-year-old. He can not run any more. He will not play for me in important matches again,” was Jose’s typically forthright response.
I love it that Jose call Bobby for Mister
… Reminds me of the boy in Indiana Jones 2, im sure the 2 of them had a similar relaitionship hehe
37 valle // Jan 12, 2008 at 22:03
Btw, here is the full article… Great reading, and tho i didnt always agree on Shearer, i gotta say that Bobby has a point… Didnt he always tho?… I sure miss the old fella

Hitzfeld as i have been saying for some time is my pick but let me throw another name in the hat Carlos Queiroz Sir Alex #2
39 tian // Jan 13, 2008 at 0:09
i blieve we should try it with mourinho. besides mourinho who else is ambitious enough and capable enough to bring newcastle back into champions league.
40 scott9 // Jan 13, 2008 at 2:12
ed take mourinho out the poll i think it would be good to see how the poll went cause mourinho int a realistic target.
41 Lawman // Jan 13, 2008 at 3:09
Where’s Lippi???
Another possible candidate could be Rafa Benitez with all the turmoil currently at Anfield.
Should’ve got O’Niell when we had the chance! No way he’ll leave A.Villa for NUFC now!
42 AdamCF // Jan 13, 2008 at 3:36
Do we really care about style if we win?
43 Nobby! // Jan 13, 2008 at 8:18
Exactly, Adam. I don’t see why they haven’t been scouting for better managers out there. I mean sure, Redknapp was okay, and so is Keegan… but Ashley wants to splash out money, right? So go after Hiddink, Klinsman, Hitzfeld, and yeah, Mourinho! I mean, it dun’ hurt to ask, right?
44 dylan2k8 // Jan 13, 2008 at 15:30
john its nice to know im not the only fan who thinks butt is crap he cant pass he cant shoot he cant even tackle
45 Michael // Jan 13, 2008 at 17:14
Vote for Maurinho…
46 mr rocco // Jan 13, 2008 at 17:56
I think Mike Ashley is missing a great TV opportunity, He could sell the rights to a reality show call “find the next Newcastle manager’ where contestants get to manage us for 1 game each and the public vote at end of the season. . Well we’ve been a soap opera why not a reality show ?
