Newcastle United attacked Stoke City form the first whistle at the game tonight.
After just 8 minutes Newcastle were goal up as Michael Owen gets a deflection in the six yard box and pokes home from close range. A typical Michael Owen goal and the crowd erupted.
Then after 20- m minutes Kevin Keegan was seen with Mike Ashley and Chris Mort taking his place in the Director’s box and Kevin was smiling and looked confident and relaxed.
The atmosphere at St. James’ tonight is electric and that spark has been passed to the players as Michael Owen in particular looks a completely different player from his performance last Saturday at Old Trafford.
Newcastle are winning all the 50-50- balls but then after 29 minutes Newcastle were reduced to 10 men when Emre was shown a straight red card. Eustace broke from defense and was taken out by Emre midway inside Stoke’s half. Uriah Rennie showed no hesitation in giving the Turkish midfielder a straight card .
Replays showed Rennie had no real choice but to send Emre off . Now we will really be short of midfielders for the visit of Bolton since Emre, Smith, Butt, Faye and Smith are all unavailable.
Emre - sent off with straight red card after 29 minutes
However, following Emre’s dismissal Newcastle continued to attack and from a beautiful N’Zogbia corner after 31 minutes Claudio Cacapa got nicely into space and headed the ball powerfully past Simonsen for his second goal for the club. A great time to get a second goal.
For the remainder of the half Newcastle didn’t seem to be affected by the loss of Emre and continued to attack right up to half time and looked a yard quicker than Stoke City. That’s what confidence and passion can do to a team and the players certainly seem up for the game.
But the game is not won yet, and we’ll probably have to use some of our substitutes in case some of the lads tire – but a win is what all Newcastle fans want to see tonight.

3 Callum // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:06

4 Steve_48 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:07
AlexW: no MOTD tonight showing highlight
MOTD on BBC1 now showing ManC Vs West ‘Am
5 James // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:08
Alex - MOTD is on now. They have just showed the highlights. BBC1 showing Man City game. They will show it again at full time.
They also have Shearer there in the studio
6 Steve_48 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:11
Shearer does not want to be a No2, no surprise there
7 James // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:12
Keegan will have Chris Coleman as his number 2. He will want someone with PL experience as a manager.
He doesn’t have the time to hand hold Shearer and teach him. He’ll be too busy relearning himself.
8 Steve_48 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:14
Aye James interesting point - saw some highlights on BBC1 @ HT, FFS he wore some dodgy early 90’s ties eh? Anyone disagree?
9 MattyDread // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:20
Shearer certainly didn’t rule himself out of being involved… in fact I thought it was pretty obvious he wants to.
10 Ben // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:20
From BBC : Speaking on Match of the Day Shearer said: “It is my club so if he was to ring me up I would certainly speak to him - I would be foolish not to.”
11 petworth magpie // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:23
Steve_48 he certainly did but nothing beats his afro-mullit.
any chance someone watching the game, or even listening, wants to post a little game commentary?
got nothing and the bbc commentary sucks. Are we still attacking or has going down to ten men put us in a defensive mode?
cheers
12 Jeremy // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:24
tackle on emre far worse than emre’s - so how come eustace’s didn’t even get a free kick given. this guy just hates us. how is he still a ref?
13 AndyT // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:24
65% possession - you wouldn’t think we’re the team with 10 men
14 petworth magpie // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:24

16 Steve_48 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:24
Well honestly lads it’s a dream ticket to have KK and AS at the helm, AS would bring respect in dressing room keeping the lads in order, as well as guidance to KK in terms of how the Premiership works thesedays.
petworth magpie: R5Live too busy extolling the virtues of KK to commentate on the game
It’s also natural progression, KK @ helm, AS step up on 4-5 years

I’m aware that there may have been a little bad feeling between the two but I think Owen’s going to love KK’s reign. Goals goals goals.

46 Tripp // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:37
It’s about confidence. I wouldn’t be too surprised if players like Cacapa and Martins turn it around this season. You don’t asked to be the captain of Lyon because you’re an inconsistent hack. The poor results, esp for the defense, are by and large the result of 1.) a lot of pressure because our midfield is shite 2.) they don’t believe that they can get the job done. They’re doubting their own ability. Sam’s negative tactics played into both of those problems. I hope we can get the side sorted this season. This may (hopefully) be the change and the kick up the arse that everyone at the club needed. 5-0 to the Toon tonight! Howay the Lads!
47 AndyT // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:37
I hope you’re watching Sam - 4-3-2 is better than 451!
