Newcastle To Get Busy In Transfer Market

January 16th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 183 Comments

With the appointment with Kevin Keegan starting to sink in - well at least a little - you can bet there are big meetings planned at St. James’ Park starting tomorrow, concentrating on who’s available in the transfer market.

richard-dunne-123.jpg

Richard Dunne - in dispute with Man City over contract

There are only a short 2 weeks left in the January transfer window and we feel certain that Kevin will want to bring at least 3-4 new players in before February comes around.

One player we reported on earlier today is center-back Richard Dunne, who Kevin put on the right tracks at Manchester City. Early in Richard’s career he was a bit of a party-goer and he was told in no uncertain terms by Keegan to buckle down or be shipped out.

To Richard’s credit he’s since become one of the best center-backs in the Premiership. We wonder of it would be possible for Kevin to get him to Newcastle.   :D

Kevin will probably not ship too many players out until he’s had a chance to look at what he’s inherited. We’re also sure he’ll get a lot of help from Chris Mort on building the youth system and scouting system at the club. The last time he wasn’t too interested (it seemed) in anything but the first team. and even dissolved the Reserve Team at one point.

But we’re sure Kevin understands this is even a bigger job than last time. But he will sleep well tonight knowing the Toon Army, throughout the world, is behind him and willing him onto success.

He can be sure of that.

Comments very welcome.

Richard Dunne would be a great buy…

I just hope we do get a few players just to keep the fans happy, though todays line up looks pretty decent to me.

  • 13 ToonKing // Jan 16, 2008 at 20:12

  • 14 ObaFan2 // Jan 16, 2008 at 20:12

Dunne would be a great signing btw, knows Keegan, could help teach Taylor more and be great for Given.

  • 15 Warwick Hunt // Jan 16, 2008 at 20:14

Sounds like a proper atmosphere, chants of ‘there’s only one Kevin Keegan’ ringing out of SJP.
    Attacking line up as well.

  • 16 Tom_Toon // Jan 16, 2008 at 20:14

I believe Chikhaoui is available for 12 mil, buy buy buy.

  • 17 Steve_48 // Jan 16, 2008 at 20:14

I take it you lads are listening to Radio 5 Live?

I hear words like “confidence”, “swagger” - is this right or are we all drunk on the euphoria of this afternoon’s events.

I know Stoke are different league so don’t shoot me down

FFS I hope we haven’t all jumped forward to April 1st

TK: Shame there’s nowt on P2P…. tonight

Has he been paraded yet - missed the SkySports certainly saw nothing on BBC

  • 18 Obafan // Jan 16, 2008 at 20:14

    1-0 howy the TOon!!

    - Metzeder: would be a fantastic player
    - Van Buyten: gets lots of critics in Belgium and right so, cause every time he plays for the national team he makes silly mistakes
    - Podolski: i don’t like the guy, there are a lot of better strikers to bring to St James

BTW: Dunne would be a good player for us, maybe the first King Kev touch ;-)

  • 19 James // Jan 16, 2008 at 20:16

LET’S GO AND WIN THIS 6-0!!

Havant are winning 2-0 too, great stuff for the non league boys

Just watched MOTD at half time and Shearer has clearly stated that he would talk to Keegan if asked to be No2.
He’s excited as me well almost, even Hanson thinks that the neutrals will be swayed by us. Christ we might even get Lawrenson to say we are good, nah that’s just stupidity that.

    zoggy is great
    great great buy
smith must move up and start playing as a forward - and zoggy in the mid - they not defensive players and yet have played there all season

    sign TAYLOR PLS KK

  • 138 roscoe // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:39

    THE ENTERTAINERS ARE BACK!!!

  • 139 Phani Tikkala // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:39

Lua Lua on for N’Zogbia. Man of the match according to radio.

  • 140 Frankieboy // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:39

4-0 wi ten men dont forget against a team that played us off the park under Allardyce.

    Keegan has effect already.

  • 141 valle // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:41

Phani Tikkala… Yes he is… Sry but thats the way it is… He is one of the players who can actually drible himself out of posession, and he has no eye for his teammates runs

  • 142 Phani Tikkala // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:41

    frankieboy.
We where only 1-0 up when we went down to 10 men as well.
The entertainers are back in town. Carnival time.

  • 143 arlyz1 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:41

Looks like N’Zogbia is making the position as attacking midfielder is own. We need to find somebody to support, him. Butt hasnt got the legs, Smith hasnt got a clue and Barton hasnt got a brain.

  • 144 Warwick Hunt // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:42

    Valle.
There have been times when he has been our best player on the pitch.

  • 145 Marc Kobrin // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:43

what can we do with barton - swop him for a broom or a pint ?

  • 146 Warwick Hunt // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:44

Duff has really came into the game now. N’Zogbia through the middle for me.

  • 147 arlyz1 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:44

His misuse of N’Zogbia just underlines how useless Big Sam was. Let the good times roll.

  • 148 Ashton // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:45

Thats what we want its very simple
    ” attacking football ”

    howay the lads

    p.s f%&k fat sam

  • 149 valle // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:46

There have been times where Bramble where one of our best players on the pitch… At times he scores some crackers, but thats just not nearly enough from a winger… He isnt good enough

  • 150 Frankieboy // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:46

Surely KK first job will be to kick barton into touch

  • 151 Warwick Hunt // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:47

Before todays sensational news I really thought that this was going to be a tough game.

  • 152 paul // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:48

definetly lucas podolski, gt a fantastic left foot, is bound 2 score plenty in the premiership

  • 153 Warwick Hunt // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:49

Duff Man of the match on Century Radio.
    4-1 lawrenson

  • 154 neil09 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:49

me too Warwick, i actually fancied Stoke to win

  • 155 ToonKing // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:49

    pffff 4-1

  • 156 Marc Kobrin // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:49

we dont need an attacking MF , we have nzogbia

    mayve just covcer for LB?

  • 157 neil09 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:50

4-1 - so close to the perfect game!

  • 158 arlyz1 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:51

A clean sheet would be little too much lol

  • 159 valle // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:51

Well we are still NUFC after all ;)

  • 160 Phani Tikkala // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:52

N’Zogbia man or the Match from match sponsors.
    Tells you something I nthink.

  • 161 ToonKing // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:53

    it over 4-1 great win!!!!!!!!

now lets smash the gooners next week !!!!!!!!!!

  • 162 neil09 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:54

we’ve scored 4, thankful that they didn’t score 3. the WOULD be typical Toon. Maybe KK has had a word. “look lads, i’m back, bang in a few goals, let them score 1, lets not take the p*ss and let in any more than that”

  • 163 ToonKing // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:54

do i hear Local Hero in the stadium ???

  • 164 arlyz1 // Jan 16, 2008 at 21:55

What a happy day. Anyone remember Big Sam?

  • 165 Phani Tikkala // Jan 16, 2008 at 22:24

Just watched MOTD interactive the last two goals where excellent. the Messiah is back.

  • 166 valle // Jan 16, 2008 at 23:27

Phani Tikkala … Could u link the goals pls?

  • 167 matt w // Jan 16, 2008 at 23:34

great performance tonight, truelly thought we would struggle but the man is in the house boys!!
sounds like by far the best newc performance for a few years.
hope shearer or les ferdinand becom no.2 to KK.
i think Dunne would be a great, great GREAT signing if we can nip in and offer him wot he wants, he has shown that he is one o the best CBs in the prem and may improve Shay’s performances. (also help out Taylor)
in need of a DM as Butt has not got any legs.
need a right winger as i feel Milner can be inconsistent and isnt very quick for a youngster.((although great finish tonight)
also need a striker, as Owen isnt up to it (his goal tonight was lucky).
need to strengthen midfield in general, butt shoulnt be near the starting 11, and smith shouldnt be near our CLUB!
anyway, nest 2 weeks will hopefully bring a few new faces that will improve our starting line up, starting with Dunne would be great!
com on the toon and com on SHEARER!

  • 168 Leo* // Jan 17, 2008 at 0:08

toon king, i was at the game and you said about the song local hero, there was so many old classic geordie pre match tracks on on the tanoy, was a joy to wait the extra 15minutes for the fans to decide they want to go to the match after all… im not buying ma sports bar tickets next season, gonna stump up the extra for 1892 because im sure that place brings us luck, may not be great atmos but when i sat their we were good, haha….

  • 169 Lawman // Jan 17, 2008 at 1:04

Shunsuke Nakamura of Celtic, Daniel van Buyten of Bayern and Lukas Pidolski would all do nicely. A defender, midfielder and a striker.

  • 170 Lawman // Jan 17, 2008 at 1:09

Shearer as KK’s apprentice. Groom him to one day take over! That would really be dream come true

  • 171 dragoner // Jan 17, 2008 at 2:40

We need one trully great centreback, one trully great, young, creative midfielder and we will be ok for the rest of the season.

    ——————Given——————–

    Beye—-Taylor—-Dunne—-Enrique

    —————–N’zogbia——————

    Mil/Lua————————Lua/Duff

    ——————-Kroos——————–

    ——-Vidu/Smit—–Mart/Owen——-

Obviously we wont get Kroos or Dunne, but those are just my example players

  • 172 John Boater // Jan 17, 2008 at 12:45

We need a right winger- Farfan/ Obgonlahor
    Striker- has to be Huntellar.
    Left back - Bridge available?
    Centre half - Dunne……

  • 173 deano // Jan 17, 2008 at 13:22

break the bank and buy Berbatov. Toon fan and the new Ginola

  • 174 Jack Moy // Jan 17, 2008 at 14:50

I’m seriously excited about how Keegan is gonna spend the war chest he’s been given…

Hope he makes a REALLY big name signing , and that’ll lift that Roof even further!

  • 175 stk // Jan 17, 2008 at 15:35

“I believe that Christophe Metzelder, Daniel van Buyten and Lukas Podolski are possibly available on loan!”

if thats true, then yes, those are the sorts of players we want, along with dunne, laursen, diego, riise, coz even though the squads good, we’re definately lacking in the creative department.

mixed reactions, fascinating appointment, thank god i’m going to the bolton game! hope defence gets sorted, and coleman for assistant!

  • 176 Guinea Mag // Jan 17, 2008 at 17:06

Need to sign up young Steven Taylor to a contract that will keep him on Tyneside for the next 5 years minimum.

KK will need to select a club captain and I would go for Given with Taylor as his deputy…….

  • 177 al // Jan 17, 2008 at 18:03

No midfield for saturday. If we lose this one we will be under great pressure with the games coming up ! Need to get someone in quick ie friday. I am sure we must have been looking to stengthen any way in january !!!!

I heard on tribalfootball.com that Shaun Wright-Phillips is keen to quit Chelsea and make a move to Newcastle… I almost heard that Newcastle is ahead of Pompey and Villa for Spurs Defoe… I think Defoe and Wright-Phillips would be good signings.. Wright-Phillips and Milner on the wings.. With the rotation of Duff.. Newcastle needs someone like Dunne… Keegan needs to Center backs of high quality.. plus a new center mid… We seem to be weak there… We only really have like 3 mids.. We just rotate players into that position… Faye has played midfield, Smith plays midfield, N’zogbia played as a center mid against Man Utd, and Geremi has played in the mid.. There are some other players who are possibilities but most are unlikely… Players like Wes Brown.. Podolski is not available on loan… Not until end of Bayern Munich’s season.. James Milner is good, he can cross and is good with passing.. He can keep the ball… Not to mention when he scored the equalizer against Sunderland! He is better then Geremi, and Duff and N’Zogbia!! We need a player with the quality of Ludovic Giuly.. Of whom Allardyce failed to sign.. Kazenga LuaLua is not a winger.. and he is not that good, yet.. Shunsuke Nakamura would be great on the wing.. having a left mid as left back means that when N’Zogbia goes forward with the ball he is capable of crossing it or shooting.. Unlike many other left/right backs who do not have the potential to score goals from range… Emre is good, he can hold the ball… Nicky Butt is to aggressive and fouls to much just like Alan Smith.. They are not starting XI players.. Newcastle should sign Yasser Al-Qahtani.. That would be funny.. They should sign Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid! and Royston Drenthe… heh
