Senegal could only draw tonight with South Africa, and are eliminated from the African Cup of Nations.

Habib Beye - on way home with Faye
Senegal had to at least win tonight to remain in the competition. However, since Tunisia and Angola ended their game 0-0, and were both on 4 points to Senegal’s 1 point before the game - Senegal and South Africa are both eliminated. Even if Senegal had won tonight they would have still been eliminated.
Here’s how the final Group D ended up after the games tonight.
Teams P W D L GF GA GD Points Tunisia 3 1 2 0 5 3 2 5 Angola 3 1 2 0 4 2 2 5 Senegal 3 0 2 1 4 6 -2 2 South Africa 3 0 2 1 3 5 -2 2
That means both Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye will be returning home from Ghana, and it remains to be seen to they will be fit enough to start the game against Middlesbrough, at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
Certainly we wouldn’t be surprised if they are flown home in a private jet to speed their recovery but we don’t know if the club are flying them home by private jet, though this would seem to make sense in the circumstances.
Faye started the game tonight but Beye was only a substitute.
Cameroon (Geremi) and Nigeria (Martins) have both qualified for the quarter-finals to be played next Sunday and Monday as follows:
Sunday, 03 February 2008 Ghana v Nigeria
Monday, 04 February 2008 Tunisia v Cameroon
Comments welcome.

16 Hammy // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:12
GREAT, best news I’ve had all week, Beye and Faye have been our best players all season……
Our wafer thin squad must surely be boosted now that Roz has gone, it’s kinda getting ridiculous when the backroom staff start out-numbering the playing staff……..
17 hanzemre // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:12
great news of Faye & Beye.. we’ve now strong backbone in our defence. pretty sure about Rozehnal isn’t happy with whats going atm pity him
18 carl // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:12
yeah a little strange neil09, maybe just maybe!!
19 neil09 // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:13
Hammy, did Dennis Wise and KK bring their football boots with them when they signed?
20 Martins // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:13
Keegan said he would not any one leave then he lets Rozenhal go out on loan if its true. Hope we get Pandez on loan or somthing along those lines but i doubt it. Id rather kept Rozenhal and got rid of Cacapa.
21 millepede // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:13
lol neil, i really wouldnt get too excited
22 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:13
ALERT - Rozenhal Joins Lazio on season long loan.
VERY CONFUSING.
WTF?
I dint think we would sign anyone but surely we must have a decent CB lined up as a suprise 11:59 signing?
23 neil09 // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:15
lol, me neither millepede, just wanted to try and bring a little bit of light to our current darkness.
24 Air Traffic Control // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:15
Just to let you know that we have cleared a private jet to land in a round 10 minutes on runway 2a. It took off from Rome and was chartered by Lazio football club.

rozehnal away- absolute joke of a club
28 carl // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:18
rozehnal is full of shit, the game against bolton he played in midfield and said he enjoyed it and felt comfortable, then today we hear him whinging that he was being moved about too much and was bitter.TWAT if even HE couldnt see we were thin on the ground and needed the team to pull togther than im pleased hes gone, great team player eh!
29 carl // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:20
oh now were a joke of a club for letting someone go? dont be so silly awc88
30 Greg B // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:21
Van Buyten would be good, that Zauri at Lazio looks pretty good too, think he can play CB or LB.
ps: note to self: please remind me not to subscribe to a thread again, I now have 50+ emails due to subscribing to 2 threads

Interesting, Levante have said this about the Newcastle Bid in regards to that Brazillian CB after saying they accepted NUFC’s bid:
“It seems that they changed their mind since then. They forgot to tell us about it.”
My opinion is that the new 3 executives surely must know that they have t prove their salt, especially because they are getting paid more than some managers and players.
Reports have 99% confirmed we have signed this 17 year old Italian, BUT NUFC.CO.UK are yet to post official word of this…. im holding out hope that these three executives are trying some large transfer coup which will be announced close to the deadline with more than the Italian.
Im hoping anyway.
p.s. i have Guilherme, Valon Behrami, Micah Richrds & Ledley King as my back four in FM 2008…. go on Ashley you know you want to!!
32 carl // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:25
keltick, agree im. hoping too
33 awc88 // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:26
keegan saying we dont need players in, but we cant afford to let anyone go because were so thin on the ground then 24 hours later rozehnal is let got = joke and a disgrace as we havent even spent a penny yet for and sort of first team
player in
34 Nick C // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:26
I agree with Carl. He has been pathetic all season, regularly being made to look pedestrian by prem strikers. I know Torres is class, but he made him look like a right twat. 40 odd caps for the Czech rep. You avin a laff?
Have to agree with everyone who is bemused at no new blood though.
35 johnny // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:27
Is it just me or does Rozenhal play like one of those prancing horses you see in a circus. Hes the only premier league player I’ve ever seen who bottles tackles. We’re well rid of him.
I’m sure we’ll get a replacement signed in time.
36 Nick C // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:29
My office is by the Haymarket in town. I was told by a couple of fellw season ticket holders in the same building that Sol Campbell is signing tonight. Cos of who told me I gave it a bit of credence, howver that was 2.5 hours ago, and heard nowt since. Would be nice but not holding my breath…..
37 Taiwan Toon // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:31
This is like signing two very good players.
A good news before the game on Sunday!
38 Dragoner // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:33
IM NOT HAPPY THAT WE ARE LOSING PLAYERS AND OUR SQUAD IS ALREADY SMALL
39 Dragoner // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:34
why didn’t we go in for defoe? why are we not trying to sign the available players? im getting very frustrated
40 Davey G // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:48
Replacements for Rozenhal……………Faye and Beye!!!
Why do you think they let him go???????
We have 2 Centre halves returning to the club!!!
YES BEYE does play at CB aswell!!!!!!
41 ToonKing // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:53
Faye played brilliantly today but he looked knackered, i don’t think he’ll be able to play on Sunday. But Beye was left on the bench so he has every chance to play.
42 Bakerman // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:15
We haven’t had stability at the back all season - BSA kept chopping & changing the back 4. That never works. Keegan is aware of this and as such has sent Rozenhal out on loan. Hopefully, we’ll see Taylor & Faye given a good runout together for the remainder of the season - and hopefully they’ll be able to forge a solid partnership.
Although Rozenhal wasn’t terrible - he isn’t exactly our best CB. Aslo, should backup be required - I’m sure Kadar will be brought in. This would surely speed up the development of this promising youngster. The King knows exactly what he’s doing!!! Keep the faith!!!
43 Ausgeordie // Jan 31, 2008 at 22:26
Good to have them back thats for sure. Roz cann ferk off. He was too slow on the ball and held on to it too long. NO point in having someone who does not like the club and is going to whinge
44 SGToon // Feb 1, 2008 at 1:45
PANDEV in return for Rozy????
Could it be???
Hope it would be??
Have to BE!!!!
45 Frankieboy // Feb 1, 2008 at 6:14
Definite bonus having them back for Sunday.
Hopefully both will go straight back into the first team………they’ve got to.
