Newcastle United youngsters Steven Taylor and James Milner are both included in the England under-21 squad for next week’s European qualifier with the Republic of Ireland.

England captain Taylor will be gaining his 25th cap and James Milner will be extending his record appearances to his 36th outing, for the England Under-21 side.
Also included in the squad, and dropping down from the full England squad, is Aaron Lennon, the Tottenham Hotspur right winger, and the game will be played at Southampton’s St.Mary’s Stadium, next Tuesday, with a kick off time of 7.45 pm.
The England side are top of their European Group with 16 points from six games and the only game they haven’t won was their last game away at Portugal which they drew 1-1 with the strong Poruguese side. That’s also the only goal Joe Hart has conceded in the tournament.
They look certainties to qualify for next summer’s championships in Sweden, which will give some great experience to the Newcastle youngsters.
Middlesbrough have 3 youngsters included - Wheater, Cattermole and Johnson.
England could well be favorites to lift the trophy next summer, they’re that good.

Not sure Milner will be extending his record to be honest, Ed. Given that Lennon’s been demoted to the U-21s, he may find himself without a place.

Its just a shame we only have 2 players good enough to be in the squad though!!!
Hopefully that will change with the new policy of bringing in good young players to the youth teams.
