News is breaking that a January target for Newcastle, Jermaine Defoe of Tottenham Hotspur, may be moving to Portsmouth for £9M.
Jermaine Defoe - £9M to Portsmouth?
Sky Sports is reporting that Portsmouth have agreed a fee of £9M for the Tottenham striker, and there is a move to get him through the window before midnight tonight.
Where this leaves Newcastle on Defoe we don’t know, but when Keegan arrived it was widely reported the three players he wanted were Jermaine Defoe, Jonathan Woodgate and David Bentley.
Benjani is also involved in this move, as Manchester City have moved in for him with a bid of £6.5M, and it may be that Defoe will only move if Benjani moves to City. Reports are that Redknapp and Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie spent most of Wednesday trying to agree a fee with Tottenham.
But Defoe has also been a long term target at Aston Villa, and Martin O’Neil is said to be following the moves closely, and may yet try to take Jermaine to Villa.
Former West Ham striker Defoe has scored 43 goals in 137 appearances for Spurs and formerly played 93 times for West Ham and scored 29 goals.
Defoe was also on loan at Bournemouth from 2000-2001 where he played 29 times and scored 18 goals.
However, Defoe now finds himself behind Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane at Spurs, with little chance to impress new England boss Fabio Cappello.

I’m with Hadrian, i’ll be checking the clock and refreshing every 30 seconds till the window is shut, although it will be 3 Am here by that and i have an exam tomorrow morning. I just can’t believe it that we are daft enough not to buy a single solitary first teamer. i just can’t believe it.
I agree with Tom_Toon , we can get almost anybody if we pay enough money, we could even easily get Bentley for 15M and let’s say Gilberto for 5M and top it off with Yobo for 10 M. If Ashley does have all the money that he is supposed to then we should have no problem. But as Hadrian said, i too think this is a money issue, and Mike won’t spend 10% of what we think he will. bit sad.

Roz out isa puzzling one.
He’s had some stinkers in the last couple of months - but it leaes us very short of defensive cover.
Given the story earlier today about Roz wanting to discuss his future with KK it sounds like he or his agent has engineered this. His agent was talking some nonsense about him being unhappy because he was playing in midfield (for a couple of games) and even complaining because he was switched from midfield to defense when Enrique was injured - apparently he can’t handle chopping & changing.

Jermaine Defoe was the best striker on the market, we dont score goals and lack a serious amount of ambition therefore this young talented english hopefull would have been nothing short of a dream buy and ship out a crocked and over the hill owen, or else a wasteful and lazy martins… take ur pick, either way it makes me sad that we miss out again on another top player.
