Rozehnal to Lazio On Loan

Thursday January 31st, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 128 Comments

Surprising developments tonight, as unhappy David Rozehnal is set to join Lazio on loan for the rest of the season.

David Rozehnal - on loan to Lazio for rest of season

The Czech Republic international only joined Newcastle last summer, but today spoke out and said he was bitter at the club for his lack of playing time and being played in various positions.

David made 21 appearances in the Premier League, but this action tonight suggests the club are unwilling to keep unhappy players, and he has quickly been moved to the Serie A Rome club, with a permanent move being possible in the summer.

We don’t expect to see Rozehnal playing for Newcastle again.

This looks like the club were rightly unhappy that David went to the press, and used words like being “bitter” at the club, and we’re sure the club took a very dim view of this, and lost no time in moving him out. Good for them.

His wife has just had a baby and so it will be a little unsettling for her, that’s for sure. All we heard from David over the time he was at Newcastle United was how much he loved it at the club, and the City of Newcastle. How quickly things can change.

But we also think David realized he would not be able to get a regular place in the team, following too many mistakes he made at the back and was probabaly worried about his Czech place for the upcoming European Championships where he would be expected to be playing regularly.

Taylor, Cacapa and Faye were all ahead of him for the center-back position.

It will now be interesting to see if Newcastle can bring in a center-back, like 28 year-old Brazilian, Alvaro, from Levante to Tyne-side, before the window closes in a short four hours. They may also have somebody else lined up, even on loan.

Pavel Zika, who is Rozehnal’s agent told Pravo.

“David Rozehnal joined Newcastle only last summer, but has not been playing in his position in defence,”

“The Lazio offer came shortly before the transfer deadline, but we managed to finish the deal.”

Zika also said that Lazio have agreed to pay 1M euros for the loan deal, which is around £750K. Lazio have already brought in Manchester City duo Rolando Bianchi and Ousmane Dabo during the transfer window.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has also said that Rozehnal is on his way to the Stadio Olimpico as he told Sky Sports.

“We have signed Rozehnal for Lazio despite problems in communicating by fax,”

“The confirmation was lacking for a while, but in the end everything went well and we have an excellent new defender who will strengthen the squad and increase the competition for places at the club.”

Comments welcome.

  • 5 carl // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:28

    never mind, move on …
surely the three new executives are working as we speak, im up all night in hope?!

  • 6 toon1978 // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:29

Well done the toon just get rid of our players with nothing coming in sensible.

  • 7 Chris // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:29

If he’s not happy at Newcastle then I’d rather not see him play as he’d not be in it 100%. What is it with these foreign players who seem to winge as soon as they don’t make the team every week???

Still no bloody sign of anybody coming in though! Surely we’re now gonna be a bit short at the back?

  • 8 Taiwan Toon // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:29

I honestly thought he could play a part in our team giving time to adjust to the PL. He didn’t look motivated in the last game and this might be the best solution for both party…

  • 12 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:32

dont worry surely this new top flight team of top fight transfer mongers (not too sure what to call them) wont be able to rinse us for £3 million p.a. and then not sign any amazing, awe inspiring players.

Im sure they have Mike Ashleys chequebook and are spending money like some crazy ritch saudi oil baron right now, but want to make the flight back from where ever they are negotiating to SJP to make a big song and dance about Newcastles revaloution and how great they are for brining in world class players no one ever imagined would sign for NUFC.

    i hope…

  • 13 obafemimartins // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:34

  • 16 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:35

This is highly encouraging. We’re short in numbers anyway, and what does Keegan and his wackpack do?

    1) Refuses to up their bid for Giles Barnes
    2) Sells of one the 4 established CBs we have (had)
    3) Signs no one, and even refrains from making a bid
    4) Declares publicly that no one would go out, and then a week later, sells Rozehnal
    5) Refuses to explain why the club has had no new recruitments, considering we conceded 13 goals in the last 5 matches in all competitions.

  • 17 Hadrian // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:37

deco and pandev incomming !!! :P

  • 18 DP // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:37

THIS is the start of the KK revolution, Rozy moans in the morning, and he’s gone by the evening! KK will not accept players who do not want to play for Newcastle United. Personally cant see anyone coming in, when fit we have Taylor, Cacapa, Faye, and unfortunately Ramage! David Edgar as back up. So centre half should really be an issue. until the summer at least. Hope i’m wrong and we get 2 or 3 in!! howay the lads

  • 19 nufctj // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:37

  • 22 Martins // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:39

Rozenhal started agaist Arsenal only a few days ago, and now were loaning him out, this is turning into a joke especially if we sign that rubbish Alavro.

We better sign someone or i wont be happy.

  • 23 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:39

30 days they couldn’t do anything. What do you expect will happen in 4 hours, nufctj?

  • 24 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:39

Mehzeb - i will too be complaining with exactly the same sentiment if not more indignation.

but, im doing the same as i always do twice a year, sitting at my PC pressing F5 on nufc.co.uk every wee while, holding on to that small hope that tonight is the night that Newcastles revival will truely begin.

    IT MUST!

  • 25 Howie // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:40

perhaps we are letting him go to lazio to bring one of their players in

  • 26 Reading Mag // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:40

Is it likely that Faye and Beye will be back for Sunday match…fit to play and \or there is a new signing coming

  • 27 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:41

Martins, we won’t be signing anyone. Sadly, that’s the most likely possibility. Keegan said it himself, “This is the best team I ever had…”

    Funny, yes.

  • 28 Martins // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:41

We should offer Owen in a swap loan deal for Pandev but Lazio would reject it cause Owen is shite.

  • 29 Martins // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:42

They cant even give Taylor a new Contract.

  • 30 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:42

Give it up, Keltik. It won’t happen.

  • 31 Martins // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:43

Sorry lads i pissed off all the fustrations of this season are all catching up to me.

  • 32 Howie // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:43

what i was thinking was maybe pandev is coming as part of the deal. doubt it though

  • 33 nufctj // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:45

martins, I here ya mate, but I am holding on to hope, what else we got to hold on to? surely not a piece of silverware

  • 34 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:45

Our club is crazier than a suicide bomber. The club might as well tie an anchor to it’s chest, and drop it into the Atlantic.

  • 35 budmon // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:45

Owen is not shite he hardly gets the ball!!! and thats not because he’s not gettin in the right position, theres just not midfield service. wait till sunday lads we’ll have our firts p.l. win of 2008!

This deal went through very quick, dont see why we won’t get deals through so quickly in the opposite direction.
    Fingers crossed.

  • 38 Ed Harrison // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:47

This leaves us a bit short for center-backs.
Maybe we can get Alvaro in - we’re getting about 750K for the loan from Lazio.
I hope this wasn’t done off the cuff - because we will lose more than David - but his comments today were certainly uncalled for.
But I hope we’re not cutting our nose off to spite our face - as the saying goes (I think). :D

  • 39 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:47

Mehzeb, i have a funy feeling you are a troll or a mackem.

    have you heard of co-intel-pro?

  • 41 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:48

Keegan will be out of NUFC by this time next season. The fans want to see instant success. Believe me. We’ve waited 40 years for a trophy. Nothing. We have waited four years for Champions League football. Nothing. We’ve waited for a worldclass signing for the last 10 years. Nothing (unless you count Real Madrid reject Owen and Inter Milan reject Martins as WorldClass).

    The waiting must stop.

  • 42 kelvin // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:48

well ed looks like you can take rozy off the banner now then. im surprised by the news since i thought we shouldn’t be letting anyone go until summer but the comments he came out with were unacceptable.

  • 43 Max // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:48

It would be nice if we could buy players as quickly as we sell them!!!lol

  • 44 Ed Harrison // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:49

Of course Beye has also proved he can play very well at center-back. But we’re going to be short - no doubt about it if we get injuries.
    4 hours to go.

According to ‘eat sleep sport’ we’ve pulled out of negotiation for Alvaro.

Do you think we’ll get anyone?

  • 48 KevinHann // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:49

Guys think about this (I know it doesn’t fit in your expectations but could be MASSIVE!) Maradona is in England looking for a job at some club - that’s what he said in an interview! Could it be with us?

why are u talking about deco and pandev?

  • 53 millepede // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:51

this is probably the worst transfer window ever - i recon it was ashleys plan to sack bsa right in the middle of it so he wouldnt have to spend a buck in january - lol thats very synical - but c’mon - not even a squad player signed

  • 54 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:51

Ed - Levante i bealieve have officially said that we have dropped interest in Alvaro.

surely all this point to one thing.

I would normally be pessimistic like Mahzeb (if he is a toon fan) but i just cant swallow the suggestion we would employ 3 high class transfer moguls, and then they dont sign any one.

coupled with the fact all sports news is reporting we have signed an 17 year old striker, but nothing from NUFC.CO.UK.

    still holding out hope!

(but then i wonder why we signed the transfer moguls a few days before the end of the transfer window???!!! Maybe Kevs struggling in the Market?)

  • 55 Pete // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:51

Gimme a break, I’m not even a bit excited concerning tonight’s deadline. I’d be truly shocked if we actually pulled off a late signing. And even if we did.. I think it’s gonna take a bit more than 1 signing to turn our season around, unless his name is Cristiano Ronaldo and signs for a gazillion pounds

  • 56 Reading Mag // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:51

Hammy- thats wise and his mate Merson

  • 57 Ally // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:52

Looks as though we are gonna have to go with what we have, unless something materialises within the next four hours.

Surley something could be worked out with lazio for us to loan one of thier players! i.e. Pandev
I suppose Van Buyten could be a late option Keegan has had him before

  • 58 Penalty-Spot // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:52

Kevin Hann - Maradona, the short, half dead Argentinian legend? I’ve just fallen off my chair laughing! Beside there’s not enough coke in Toon :-)

  • 59 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:52

    Ideal 4 hours:

Hour 4: Newcastle signs Deco for £8.7m.
Hour 3: Goran Pandev moves to Newcastle in part-exchange deal for £5.5m.
Hour 2: Daniel Van Buyten joins Toon
Hour 1: Magpies swoop for Derby’s Giles Barnes

    :-D

  • 65 KevinHann // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:55

The interview I read is quite good actually. Says it is translated from the Sun original material, so you guys should know better. And it is a fact Maradona was at our dressing room after the Arsenal game. Can you imagine how massive morale lift his presence can give to the players? Wouldn’t you be buzzed to be talked to by one of the two best in football history ever?

  • 66 Keltik // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:56

    possible…..

  • 67 ToonRich // Jan 31, 2008 at 19:56

I’m not one for speculation…but could we be back in for Sol now that Roz has departed?? As for a fee, isn’t he on loan, and a permenant deal after perhaps!

I do think it’s getting too late to get anyone, unless they have players in mind ready to fly in for a medical and personal terms!!

Rozehnal was the one who talked about Maradona’s visit the most. Unfortunately, he is the one who badmouthed the club, and is now on his way to Lazio.

Don’t know how much Maradona helped the others, but for David Rozehnal, it proved to be a negative influence.

Bentley… well, wasn’t a “hands-off” warning issued by Blackburn last week? Plus, Keegan feels that we don’t need anyone. Our team is the “best he ever had”. That means, no right winger to challenge trippy-trippy, no crossing ability, slow winger Milner for the position.

Black and White Blood, you make a good point, but this is supposed to be a revolution, not evolution. A revolution happens with a flow, a speedy one at that. The future may be bright, yes. 5 years down the line, I’m sure Tozer, Beheng, Kadar, and the Italian kid would be world-beaters, but here, and right now, we are under-manned, out-classed by every Premiership side, and out-played by the top four. Sadly enough, some of you would rather pick us apart than admit the inherent flaws in the team. Panic buying is not the solution, I know, but would you not even plug the visible dents in the side?

Sorry if I offended the people who according to Black and White Blood, are oldbies here, but the negativity hasn’t just popped up from nowhere. This is the disintegration of years of repressed hope, and continuous disappointment.

Totally agree with black and white blood and keltik. What is wrong with milner at least he has pride putting on the balck and white shirt unlike some of our other players. i think he can be a great winger come time. even david bentley puts crap crosses in just like every other winger in the permiership. you cant expect a quality cross everytime.

  • 106 Black and White Blood // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:15

@Mehzeb - What do you want Keegan to say… This is the worst team he has ever had..!! Really good advice mate, brilliant, just what the players need to pick up moral and confidence within the club! Give the fookin man some credit - If you are a true supporter which I’m sure you are, get behind him and trust his decisions, what ever he does, he will be doing for the clubs benefit. KK is a man of principle and will not accept anything other than what is best for the club!!
….You know, so much negativity, I wonder why our supporters receive so much criticism…

bentley 12.5 + milner loan apparently

  • 108 Graham // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:20

Both Beye and Faye are coming back as they have not progressed in the ACN so we CAN afford to lose a whinger who thinks its perfectly reasonable to go to the press the minute he’s not in the starting 11 - if thats the kind of player he is then we are well shot of him.

Mehzeb - Keegan never promissed a wow signing - the press misquoted him when he said “we may get someone in and people will say - wow thats a suprise”

Keegan has never promissed anything this month - for gods sakke hes been here 2 weeks and theres already people slagging the bloke off and wanting him gone. No wonder this club is in the state it is!

We are getting rediculous in wanting class signings in 2 weeks - some people will never learn and be a little patient with things.

  • 112 Reading Mag // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:23

Mehzeb - what are talking about- these kids are the future, bar the 80’s we had very little coming through the youth and res’s of real quality.

Listern to your elders Black and White blood for example, I doubt you know about Keegan, is quote of being is best team, is clearly not true but great motivation for team, and a starting point . Sir Bobby did the same about the changing room after 3/4 games.

    Get postive please…true faith

  • 113 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:23

Black and White Blood, as you said, it’s all about faith. I have faith in the club, not in Keegan or any of the managers there. I love the club, and not any particular manager. So, if I feel that what is happening to NUFC is not right, then I’ll proudly say so. The club has survived a lot since Sir Bobby Robson left. But 12th and 13th place finishes are becoming a routine for the club.

If anyone watched the two Arsenal games, then they’d agree with me that, we looked like a Championship side against a Premiership giant. Havant scored 2 goals against Liverpool. We conceded 6 goals in 2 games, and scored… how many? Zero.

Yeah, sure. Keegan needs more time, but even Wenger said that for our strikers (Owen) to be an effective threat, we have to provide him crosses, and through-balls, and deadly passes.

Btw, how many shots on goal did we have in the last match? — a sad fact.

But sure, Keegan and Co. know what they’re doing. They must. He is the Messiah, and we are his followers, right? But believe me, I’d follow the club, and not the man. I love NUFC, not Keegan individually, nor does my affection for the club originate from his appointment.

  • 114 Graham // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:25

Mehzeb - it will take at least 3-4 years to reach anywhere near the so called big 4 - only Chelsea have done it quicker - and they were a lot closer than we are and went daft on transfer spending!

By then, the young players we have recently signed will be have had a few years of playing with the 1st team and will know the tactics and we can have a serious push on from there. But anybody who wants to win the league (or get close) next season is out of their tiny minds!

  • 115 joel // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:25

i am the first one too find out for all you guys tell me if im good?

  • 116 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:29

Graham, I’d settle for 2-1 losses to Arsenal, and avoid conceding 6 at Man U. A UEFA Cup spot would be nice, but all I ask is that we atleast stand out as a decent side, and not a joke in the press and media. And yes, the media have been harsh on us, but seriously, can you blame them? Our central midfield is a joke. Smith and Butt! Does that not say enough? Plus, we’re playing left-winger N’Zogbia at left-back, or in central midfield, with his agent dropping hints that he wants to leave. Rozehnal has already left! Some morale booster for the rest of the team.

  • 117 Rob Kirton // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:31

Personally I think it is good news. Expect Edgar to get the nod to be in the centre half roster. He is better than Rozehnal

  • 118 Ross // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:32

joel, wikipedia can be edited by anyone?
theres nothing anywhere else about it?

  • 119 Mehzeb // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:33

    No.

  • 120 Daniel Petersen // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:50

I know I’m in the minority here, but what a shame. I’ll miss Roz. I was hoping he would regain the form he had at PSG for the Toon. Best of luck to David at Lazio.

  • 121 Black and White Blood // Jan 31, 2008 at 20:51

@Mehzeb - Yes I saw the two Arsenal games - I was there for both of them, so trust me when I tell you we were without any doubt the better team against Arsenal in the 1st half and the early part of the 2nd half [1st game] - Once Arsenal scored I agree, our heads dropped and Arsenal demonstrated just how good they are. In my opinion they are the best passing team in Europe! Ok 2nd game we weren’t as good as the first game, but were still indeed 10x better than we have been in during the last 12 months, therefore comments associating us to Championship Football is way off the mark. There are areas to improve on, but all good things come to those who wait - Surly this only emphasise the confidence issue and the reason behind KK comments!

iv said it before n al say it again keegan is a mistake mark my words
all you fans who have been swept up in keegan mania u need to wake up n smell the coffee he is going to bring our club down even further

  • 124 Nobby's dad // Jan 31, 2008 at 22:35

    Giles Barnes - Derby reserve.

Rozy - was dreadful at Arsenal - glad he’s going, he certainly wasn’t good enough for the Toon.

  • 125 Nobby's dad // Jan 31, 2008 at 22:50

big pea…….how do you work this out? You’re not one of the many idiots who come on here telling everyone we should buy this player and that player and lists their price spending 50+ million.

Keegan needs time to evaluate our squad - FACT. Few good players move in January-FACT. We’ve brought 4 young prospects in - thats 3 more than we’ve brought in in 4 years. Give Ashley /Mort / Keegan time. There’s nothing wrong with Keegan mania - the man was fantastic as a player for us and was even better as a manager last time - so show him some RESPECT!! There were people last time said he’d do nothing, had been out of the game for too long - when we’re successful in a couple of years time (and it WILL happen) I hope you stand up and tell everyone how you said KK was a mistake. And pal we don’t smell coffee in the Toon - that smell is hops from the brewery.

  • 126 UTD111 // Jan 31, 2008 at 23:20

Letting a versatile talented player like Rozie go when we are struggling for squad numbers is crazy - what are u doin Kev?????

  • 127 scotty // Feb 1, 2008 at 7:23

    Wow, didn’t see that coming………….

  • 128 michael // Feb 1, 2008 at 11:35

One thing is for certain, Keegan is a mad man ans still knows nothing about football. He told Charles Nzogbia he could not let him go to Totenham because we were short on numbers, yet later he loans out Rozenhal.

He quit England saying he did not know tactics, then Quit man city cause hes said he could not do the job. When at mancity he said it was the best club squad he had assembled but could not do the job.

Big pea is a realist and I commend him for being one, All of you here supporting the Keegan live a fantasy, a big fantasy. Wake TF up. Life does not work like this, it just does not.

We say Newcastle is the biggest job in Europe, then why do we not give the job to a big person instead of talentless managers.

Change right at the top of the club but still mediocre thinking. Allerdyce would have atleast brought in some players.
