Newcastle United Blog Passes 3M Hits

Tuesday February 5th, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 67 Comments

Since our web-site started last April 23rd, we have now attained 3M hits, with our last 1M hits coming since December 13th, shortly after we became an independent site.

nufc-brand.gif kevin-keegan-3323.jpg

Kevin Keegan and Billionaire Owner - what else do we need? Nothing.

It’s interesting to note everything that’s happened at Newcastle United, since our site went live last April:

  • Glenn Roeder sacked as manager - 6th May, 2007
  • Sam Allardyce appointed manager - 15th May, 2007
  • Mike Ashley buys Newcastle United for about £133M - June, 2007
  • Chairman Freddy Shepherd resigns, Chris Mort takes over - 24th July, 2007
  • Sam Allardyce sacked - 9th January, 2008
  • Kevin Keegan appointed Newcastle United Manager - 16th January, 2008
  • Mort appoints recruitment team of Dennis Wise, Tony Jimenez and Jeff Vetere - 28th January, 2008

Many fans would say it’s just another typical season for Newcastle, and it’s still only two thirds over. :D

But there’s only one Newcastle United and things are certainly never dull at the club.

But we are more confident than ever, that good times are in the not-too-distant future for our club, and we make no apologies for taking a positive outlook on Newcastle United on this site.

But we will also be realistic, and try not to get carried away too many times - although that has proved to be difficult some times since April.

If Newcastle fans had been asked last April - if they could wave a magic wand for success, what would they wish for? We think most fans would have asked for a Billionaire Owner and Kevin Keegan back as the manager.

We have both of those in place at Newcastle United now, and that’s only one reason (or is it two?), that we are so confident of the future success of Newcastle United. You’ve just got to keep believing, and we know for a fact that this summer is going to really exciting for all our fans. as we bring senior players into the club.

Please continue to send us comments - via the CONTACT US facility, at the top of the site, letting us know how we are doing and things we can do to improve the site for you. Both positive and negative comments are welcome, but try to keep the ideas constructive. While “You’re useless” may well be true, it doesn’t really help us to improve. :D

Some basic facts - since April 23rd last year - we have published 2,145 stories and have received 56,744 comments to those stories, which have been split into 58 categories. We are now averaging over 26 comments for each article, which we think is good, and it also seems to be rising.

Your comments are a key part of this site’s attraction - as we all know by now - so please keep them coming.

To think maybe if I had joined the Evening Chronicle 35 years ago, rather than IBM, I may have been like Alan Oliver - well maybe not - no offense Alan. :D

Comments welcome - and you can check our total hits just beneath the main banner on the left - at any time - it’s a running total.

Thank you all very much, and now for Newcastle United to be successful again - which is really what we all want.

Upward and Onward.

Not bad for a small club eh!

  • 2 Mr T // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:49

Congratulations Ed, must admit I’m relatively new to posting….. but have been a constant reader for while now. Good effort, and a cracking site!

  • 3 Tom_Toon // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:49

    Well done Ed.

  • 4 KevinHann // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:51

    3000004 now :D

  • 5 Kash2 // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:52

Alan Oliver if you’re reading - Ed may say “No Offense” but the rest of us don’t!!!!!

  • 6 John // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:54

    Good Job Ed..Excellent site ..

    Keep up the good work

  • 7 nufctj // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:54

too bad midd the yidd accounts for some of those 3M! can we discount his hits?

  • 8 John // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:54

    Kash 2 LOL

  • 9 Kash2 // Feb 5, 2008 at 16:55

@Tom_toon - I saw your boyfriends, oops (only kidding mate), I mean favourite players playing last night.

Chikhaoui definitely looked the part, and his overall stature and presence was great. A bit rough around the edges, but a real prospect in the making.

Chermiti, well not as great as his countrymen, but good skill, still not sure if he’s EPL material!

  • 10 nufctj // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:00

oh and add this to your list of dates:

May, 2009, NUFC qualifies for CL after finishing an astonishing 3rd in the league and takes their first FA cup since 1955 ! Toon goes mad!

  • 11 Tripp // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:05

sod qualifies, wins the CL without conceding a goal during competition.

  • 12 ChrisM // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:07

Congratulations ED. One suggestion tho…..please dont spew out stories just for the sake of it……..it reduces your journalistic credability and starts making for a boring read.

A second problem is i’ve noticed how many pesamistic fannies we have……

Other than that well done. I’m sure we are happier for it.

  • 13 Leo* // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:08

kash2 i agree with you, we mean as much offence to anal oliver as possible

  • 14 ToonKing // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:10

    keep it up Ed… ;)

  • 15 big pea ov the weab // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:10

    congrats ED 3000000 and counting

  • 16 Kash2 // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:15

@ChrisM - Us Geordies are always extreme, in a sense we’re either really optimistic e.g. we’re going to win the UEFA cup and qualify for the CL (2004/2005….. I think Souness as manager) or we’re really pessimistic e.g. We’re going to get relegated and MA’s company will go bust and Newcastle will burn (Present).

We’re one of the extremes or the other, we never seem to have middle ground!

  • 17 Tom_Toon // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:20

Kash2 - Cheermiti has got more talent than Chikhaoui in my opinion and we seem to be tracking him. Apparently we were planning a 4 mil bid for him.

England v Switzerland tomorrow. Bernetta possible replacement for Zog, Vonlanthen throw back to Asprilla.

  • 18 Kash2 // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:25

Tom_toon - For all the skill he had, he didn’t really do enough for me. While Chikhaoui had a Zidane-esque swagger and balance about him. Both good players, Chermiti being more of a gamble! I think both would have issues with Work Permits though!

    Didn’t Volanthen play for PSV?

  • 19 Kash2 // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:25

Tom_Toon - Where did you read about Chermiti?

  • 20 George // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:30

Many congratulations Ed keep up the good work.
I bet you wonder how you had time to go to work now, since you decided to be a full time blogger.
Its testimony to you and the content you put up that you have such a following. You deserve the accolades Ed. Cheers and heres to the next 3 million.

  • 21 Tom_Toon // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:37

Yes Vonlanthen did pllay for PSV. When he was about 18, hes 22 now.

I just saw it on a few obscure websites, not much in it i recon but interesting none the less.

Chikhaoui doesnt play in his natural position for Tunisia so you cant judge him that much as he is defintely a better attacking midfilder than big striker. He has also been comparded to Zidane.

  • 22 Tom_Toon // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:39

Chermiti should hva estarted instead of Dos Santos. Chermiti is bloody fast and his touch is immense but his temper is a bit off. Hes very similar to Zarate who just signed for Brum, who will we get to see a lot of.

  • 23 Kash2 // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:39

Volanthen has actually played against us before. I remember him as I was at the game and he came on as a sub!!!!

  • 24 Kash2 // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:40

    Very interesting all in all!!!!!

  • 25 Tom_Toon // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:42

I doubt very much Chikhaoui or Chermiti will ever sign as we dont need either. Chikhaoui has got pretty poor passing for an attacking midfielder and he is only compared to zidane by as you said by his presence and swagger and also his touch and skill on the ball.

  • 26 graham // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:44

Ed, who was number 3000000 and when do you deliver the new car to their home????

Congratulations and keep up the good work

  • 27 Mighty Mouse // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:44

Yea well done Ed, thanks for providing this platform, really enjoy the banter.

Just read the Mail’s take on the N’Zogbia situation. It claims that we value him at 7M and that Spurs see him as a cheaper option to Downing. Well first off selling Zogs would be devastating and the single worst move since Charlton shipped out Waddle but if he is to go surely he would bring in 10M+ and cost considerably more than the largely inconsistent Downing.

  • 28 Edd Case // Feb 5, 2008 at 17:54

    Well done.
This is a site I really like and visit frequently.

In fact, the best blogging I’ve ever come across was on transfer deadline day last summer - madness but really exciting as news filtered in.
Same again this summer - definitely - and this summer, there should be some REALLY exciting signings.
    Can’t wait…

Cheers Ed and all who post on here…
(p.s. stop with the “1st post” shite though lads)

Good stuff, this site is. I now browse this as well as nufc.com, these are my two main sticks of Newcastle-related information. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by similar articles in the same day, though.

All the same, keep up the good work and a big wahey to those decent posters out there. Out with the odious outcasts!
