The Aston Villa game today is one in which Newcastle just have to get down to business, and try to get a result at Villa Park.
It’s an early KO at 12:45 PM local time this afternoon, and of course Aston Villa are probably still smarting from their 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage last weekend, so they’ll definitely be ready for this game.
Newcastle will have Faye, Beye, Viduka and left back Jose Enrique available for selection. Jose came through a full game for the Spanish Under 21 side in their 2-0 win over France last Wednesday evening. Charles N’Zogbia also played in that game, but Charles will not be available for today, since he is suspended for one game due to collecting 5 yellow cards.
Both Emre and Barton are available again and because of their creativity and good form last weekend, we suspect that Keegan will want to start both of them. We think Kevin will have Damien Duff starting on the bench, since he did play a full game for Ireland against Brazil in midweek. James Milner missed out last week and we think Kevin may just rest Damien this week - but we still expect Duff to play some part in tomorrow’s game. Oba Martins will not play because of the ankle injury he picked up training with Nigeria in Ghana. This is the team we exepct Kevin to name, but with so many choices, there may be some shocks in the team Keegan names today.
Given
Beye Cacapa Taylor Enrique
Milner Faye Barton Emre
Viduka Owen
Subs: Harper Carr Butt Duff Smith
On the Aston Villa side, Ashley Young looks set to start after his suspension last weekend, and defender Curtis Davies, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, has recovered from a knee injury picked up against Fulham last Sunday.
As we mentioned yesterday, leading goal scorer Gabriel Agbonlahor is not available after picking up an injury last week. It turns out that Agbonlahor has played in every one of the 70 games Villa have had since Martin O’Neil as manager, so this will be the first game he has missed.
Villa may also be without midfielder Stiliyan Petrov, who didn’t play for Bulgaria last week due to concussion. Former West Ham striker Marlon Harewood may start in place of Agbonlahor, which will be Marlon’s first start for his new club. So Newcastle may have a chance in this game since Villa have some of their better players missing.
That’s it - roll on this afternoon.
Let us know what you think - isn’t it about time we celebrated a win? Hope we can make a breakthrough tomorrow.
Comments are always very welcome.

Not bad in my opinion, just hope there is no butt or smith. I dont think he’ll play smith, but he might play butt.

But haven’t Faye and Beye been back all week?
Anyway you may be right - he may want to keep an unchanged back 4.

either way i dont mind, as long as he doesnt play nicky butt!!!

‘the Africans’ instantly make the team better. Beye has to go straight into the team. the centre of defence might not change but i wish it does. Butt’s gotta stay as far from the pitch as possible!! the team i’d play…

Can’t see Cacapa being dropped but Faye playing Butt’s mf role and should take some pressure from defence.
Beye–Taylor–Cacapa–Enrique
Milner–Faye–Barton–Emre/Duff
Owen——— ? Duke OBA
I’d also like to see some more of LuaLua at some time.

Selection difficulties for Kev ? only because he has so many mediocre players available to him.
to be honest it doesnt really matter which 11 players he picks - but pick 11 and stick with them for the next few weeks - the team despertely needs some stability.

Can’t see us winning this one.
Kev will still be looking for his first win second time round.
Villa are a decent team, well organised and have the players to catch our poor defense out.
However, we’ve certainly improved since Fatso went and there is certainly more of a threat, particularly from the likes of Duffers and N’Zogbia (hopefully Enrique will start).
So, there’s always hope.
I’m not going, but I’ll be shouting loudly at the box in the corner, cheering the lads on as always.
Howay the lads.

im just glad smith isnt in anyones team… owen has some real help up front if he plays viduka

Beye’s back in at LB, Carr switches to the right. Smith & Owen up front.
Milner back in, Barton & Emre, Duff.

I think it’s:
Beye Taylor Cacapa Carr
Milner Barton Emre Duff
Smith Owen
I think we need Faye up against Carew and Harewood because Cacapa is so weak. Hopefully Beye can deal with Young because they aren’t dangerous on the right of midfield
