It seems that Nigel Pearson was the one who wanted to leave Newcastle United, and his decision to go seems to have surprised Kevin Keegan.

Nigel Pearson - told Keegan he wanted to leave
Kevin Keegan said on the club’s official website today:
“Nigel came to me the day before yesterday and said I want to go.†“I asked him for a reason but never really got one.â€
“I said ‘is it me?’ and he said definitely not. I asked if it was someone else around the club and he said no.†“But he was very honest and said ‘I want to go’.â€
“I asked him to think about it but he came in yesterday and said he had made his mind up, he’d talked about it with friends and wanted to go.†“I don’t think there was any doubt we were working closely but you have to respect his decision.â€
“I like Nigel Pearson very much, he’s a good coach and I wish him good luck in the future.”
So it seems any link with Alan Shearer coming in is just not true, although we understand that Alan will start coaching at the club soon.
The news about Nigel leaving was not good news to us because Nigel has a very good name in the coaching world, and has been a solid coach at the club and we were sorry to see him go – especially when it looks like he just wanted to leave.
Kevin will now have to bring in another coach to Newcastle soon. Not sure if Shearer coaching on a part-time basis will be enough right now.
Comments welcome.

He’s done nothing with our defence in the past 18 months or however long he’s been here, so who cares?

I wonder what Mark Lawrenson is doing before 22:30 on Saurdays.

How much worse can it get? I’m not gonna miss him. And looking at the bench the last few games, KK and McD. looking like best friends with poor Nigel cut out of the loop…

Not a fan - poor history as a manager, defensive, ex-Smoggie. Not bothered he left
Bring Beardo back from the Boro!!! It’s criminal he’s there…

“…because Nigel has a very good name in the coaching world, and has been a solid coach at the club ..”. Ed I’ve asked you this before without reply, how do you justify this statement? What is it about the Newcastle team over the past 2 years or so that Pearson has been in charge that would make anyone say “that team has a good coach”. ?
10 Gordon // Feb 9, 2008 at 19:01
Cyprus Mag - Ed is all about the unqualified comment!
He also says each youth player we buy is a great signing for the club without ever having seen them play!
Two other bugbears:
1. Ed you say “WE” in all your articles when you mean YOU
2. You use the phrase “Good words” after quoting someone in nearly every article. Break it up a bit!!
Apart from that appreciate all the work you put in getting so many articles up each day

A respected man as far as coaching goes. Well done. Unfortunately under Big Sam no praise was ever forth coming. Under KK he speaks highly of NP.
Fact is our defence is no better than last year but you can not blame NP for that as the rot was already there. What we need, again, is a new defence set up from scratch as it is plain to see that what we have can not play together.
The only thing that people can accuse NP of is leaving a sinking ship, but lets face it, who can blame him. It is no point at looking for stool pigeons now, as these players are performing under the new regime.

Never mind all this! You cant tell me KK has come back to pick this team? 10 years ago he would have gave the reserves a go. Looks to me as tho someone above is picking the team - may as well have FFS back. This is the darkest spell EVER as a NUFC supporter but i’m glad Pearson has gone all the same.
Any manager with half a brain would not pick Carr, Butt, Barton or Smith in the starting 11.
Boro above us and the mackems very close behind………….

scotty - “10 years ago he would have gave the reserves a go” WHAT RUBBISH!
10 years ago he SCRAPPED the reserves because they dared to play on the St James’ Park pitch costing us the likes of Carrick…
Even he acknowledges that was mistake! Get your facts right.

Shut the door on ur way out will you Nigel? cheers…

Why would a coach leave Newcastle on a good screw half way through the season. he has not been sacked. Think about it lads? he could have sat there and done as he was told. He didn’t…why? Because he didn’t like KK? I don’t think so…or because he was undermined by that clown mcdermott who should be kicked out of NUFC. How come MCclown manages to survive all these years. He and KK are too pally.

‘m sorry, but the fact s, when you compare two times. 1)b4 oearson became nvolved to 2) when pearson was apponted. 1)sht defence 2)ok defence, not great…..but a damned improvement.

“Don`t want Pearson cos he`s smoggy tw@t” Your beloved Pedro is a smoggy tw@t now!!!!!!!!!
” Boro above us, Mackems closing in” Sounds to me like yer shatting yer pants! C`mon Boro!!
26 George // Feb 10, 2008 at 12:04
Just a quick note to Gordon, you mention that Carrick did not come to NUFC because of the pitch. Very wrong. Carrick has not come to NUFC for one reason and one reason only and from his own mouth, “they rejected me when a teenager saying i was not up to it and not big enough”. Nothing to do with the pitch or KK or GS or KD or GR or AC or SA or RG or Sir BR or the SJP pitch.
27 daiv // Feb 10, 2008 at 14:38
Pearson left because he was the official number 2 but Keegan treated him like the number 3 or less. Keegan’s best mate McClown became number 2. Just look at the way they cosy up to each other at the dugout. What choice did pearson have? Be his own man or crawl around keegan and McClown.
28 Number 70 // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:27
Um. Arthur Cox is Keegans #2. U havent see him at match days in the dug out but he’s about
