How Much is N’Zogbia Worth In Transfer Market?

February 10th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 69 Comments

In our most recent poll, which we closed today, 65% of Newcastle fans think that if Newcastle are forced to sell Charles N’Zogbia in the summer, we should get £10M-£15M for him or more.

charles-nzogbia-381.gif

Charles N”Zogbia - most Newcastle fans think he’s worth between £10M and £15M

Here are the full results of the poll with 587 readers voting.

Of course Newcastle don’t want to sell Charles, since he represents the future for Newcastle United, so we are hoping that Kevin Keegan and maybe even Alan Shearer can persuade the youngster to stay on Tyne-side. Charles has cited the fact his family (mother and sister) live in London and he would be happier with them in the capital.

But since that’s how both Dyer and Solano left the club last August, we think it may be a ruse to allow Charles to leave Newcastle. But if he doesn’t want to play for the Toon, then he’s better off leaving for London.

Our other poll was asking the question whether the club is still a soft touch in the transfer market, now that we have a new Billionaire Owner, Chairman and Manager.

We have certainly been a soft touch over the last 10 years, with some terrible buys in the transfer and also for paying our players far too much in wages, for what they produce.

Come to think of it, doesn’t that sound like the position we have today?

Well 52% think we are still a soft touch, which probably doesn’t surprise us too much.  Here are the results with 396 readers voting.

We’ll know better in the summer as to how we conduct ourselves in the transfer market, because we expect Kevin to be signing at least 5 new first team players in the summer. That’s to augment the squad we have, while also letting a few go - like Stephen Carr and Shola Ameobi, as two examples.

Let us know if there are any other pertinent polls we should be running.

Comments are very welcome.

i think the zog it a cracking left winger/midfielder/back and he has already got a couple of caos for the french 1st team (and at only 21/22) he his a great player and he will only ger better.

i think that i zog want sto move down 2 london then we want a rather lage sum of money for him i wud say that a player of his calliber and age is worth at least 18millon+??

p.s i realy hope that zog stays him and miller and probally the only 2 players who u can rely on to give 110% effort every week ??

  • 2 Geordie Joe // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:35

N’ zogbia is top quality but realistically I don’t think anyone would pay more than 10m for him.

  • 3 Robert from Serbia // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:37

6-7 mill he is worth !!!

  • 4 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:49

18 million!? LOL! there are some right characters on here. We wont get more than 10million for him. i think we will get around 8 million personally.

  • 5 Edd Case // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:51

He’s worth more than Stephen Carr…
that’s all I’m prepared to say.

  • 6 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:51

if 8million is offered then we should sell. It would be a great bit of business considering we got him for cheap. Plus the fact that good wingers are generally quite easy to find. we could use the money to sign a better winger than zoggy and make a profit.

  • 7 valle // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:53

18+ million!?!?!… U must be joking… He is worth 7 mill but we can get 10 for him if we compare to deals like Parker and Dyer

  • 8 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:54

in the region of 8-12 mil depends which clubs wants him, we could squeeze it out of them.

Id go for a safe 10, but id swap him for Bale anyday of the week.

  • 9 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:55

he is looking a bit injury prone though tom

  • 10 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:57

Ye i know but with the right work he may not be.

An immense player though, even at his young age, he can cross like a genius.

  • 11 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 16:59

got a good free kick on him aswell

  • 12 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 17:00

i just read we might go after downing, please NO! he is an expensive, overrated, lightweight winger, let tottenham have him

  • 13 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 17:00

ye and that, both unlike n’zgobia, he can also run at defenders like zoggy and probably has a nicer touch and knows when to pass, basically hes just better.

  • 14 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 17:01

1o million for him aswell! f**k that! we could surely get bentley for that, maybe add one or two million at MOST.

  • 15 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 17:04

Does anyone think Hosny of Egypt looks like Crash Bandicoot, hahah.

  • 16 Stephen // Feb 10, 2008 at 17:11

    He is Priceless..

He has pace works his socks off and helps the team he is young and is only going to get better.

I never thought we were a selling club like but in recent years we have we have sold the likes of Jenas who was a great prospect and also sold the likes of Dyer and Solano all to London clubs…

I guess newcastle aint as an attractive place to play there football at the moment…..

We could get most players under Sir Bobby we were really going places…..

Sounds to me i am getting right about Kevin Keegan and alot of people thought i was talking rubbish on this…….

Told he was tactically inept and a 4-1 loss against villa just shows that…….

Anyways theres plenty time for him to prove me wrong

  • 17 Andreas // Feb 10, 2008 at 17:17

Dragoner, as you say we won’t get 18mil for him (since he’s not English) but based on the Bent-rate N’Zog should yield 20ish mill.

However, I reckon we’ll end up with 7-8 mil (tops) - and that is way to low imo (even though he’s not “world class”).

  • 18 Tripp // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:05

I’d love to get Bentley, he’s head and shoulders above Zog. Charlie likes to run at players, but is almost always dispossessed and nothing comes of it. He’s over rated and we can replace him easily if we can 1.) not get relegated and 2.) convince people NUFC is a club worth playing for. We’re in such disarray as an organization at the moment that we’re going to find it hard to attract good players.

  • 19 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:07

i have been watching the final and the chelsea game at the same time, and they are/were both crap for those who aint bothered to/can’t watch

  • 20 Jeff // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:09

since he has recently signed a new long term concert then newcastle are quite within their rights to stick a big price tag on his head.Id say minimum 12 million, purely because of his potential.

  • 21 ToonKing // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:09

if we could get 10M for him it would be a dream.

And we’ll never get Bentley. Were shit and he’s good. He’s going to Chelski.

  • 22 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:12

jeff, the fact that it is commonly known that he wants to leave means that clubs are not going to fork up as much cash as they would have simply because they know we will have to let him leave if he aint happy with us. Add to that he is young and is not likely to handle the situation like a professional if we do refuse to let him leave and you end up with something around the 7-8million mark

  • 23 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:15

ahh well, if he wants to leave then let him, he is my favourite player but no one should play for a team if they do not want to, both parties involved simply end up suffering. Like i said earlier, we can sign someone better than him aswell. Im sure Tom Toon has got a list of potential candidates…

  • 24 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:17

Ill draw them up and send them to KK asap ;)

  • 25 Nick C // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:18

I think it just shows the paucity of talent at our club when we rate someone like N’Zogbia so highly. He has talent and potential, however most of the time he surrenders possession and runs into blind alleys like a schoolboy. I would imagine we would get something like £5-£7 mill for him.

  • 26 Chicken // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:18

    £7m tops.

  • 27 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:18

    Toon King

I can see Tottenham nicking him from under the noses of the top four.

  • 28 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:22

post them up here aswell so that people on here can see good wingers are easiest players to find

  • 29 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:25

i made a list on here the other day off the top of me head, ill retrieve them.

  • 30 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:27

Deportivo are looking to be relegated so we could just buy Guardado to replace him, Schweinstiger may be available, and Barnetta would also be a good young option, not to mention people like Albert Riera and even someone like Andrew Surman from Southampton.

There is also Rodriguez of Benfica, Leonardo of Ajax, Maxwell of Inter who can slo play LB.

  • 31 Dragoner // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:32

    yeah barnetta is class

  • 32 Hadji // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:46

How about Pantelic to replace Viduka

  • 33 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 18:55

Pantelic is a good player but a replacement for Viduka? Pantelic isnt exactly a back to goal striker.

  • 34 catchy // Feb 10, 2008 at 19:07

if ;eegan can get us playing good ataacking football again why would he want to leave. but as it is at the moment idont blame him.. we seem to be pining all our hopes on him…. yes he may be our best playerbut some of the seniour players need to stand up and be men.. a few weeks ago he was being asked to play left back but charlie was our best atacker… if he goes good look to the lad, hes just showing some ambition

  • 35 Cyprus Mag // Feb 10, 2008 at 19:12

We have so few class players he must be worth more to us than the amount anyone would be willing to pay.

  • 36 Leo* // Feb 10, 2008 at 19:18

ahhhh ive got hicups and they wont go away, i think nicky butt has seen my comments on him and he has got a voodoo doll of me and doing me in

    btw nicky butt is shit

  • 37 Ross // Feb 10, 2008 at 19:38

regardless of how much we get for him when he DOES leave, we’ll spend it on average moneygrabbers, so it doesn’t really matter.

  • 38 ronaldeano // Feb 10, 2008 at 19:48

Raid Ajax for leonardo end Emanuelson!!

  • 39 Nick C // Feb 10, 2008 at 20:08

Nicky Butt is not shit. He has been an excellent defensive midfielder for many years. He has won more than most of the rest of our squad put together. Unfortunately he is now not the player he was. However he was True Faiths player of last season so i reckon u should show him a little more respect.
If u want a target, why not aim at that scouse toe rag instead. Now there is a kin waste of oxygen…

  • 40 jeremy9 // Feb 10, 2008 at 20:20

Do not sell. You must try like hell to keep him. He is the best thing we got going for us.

  • 41 olly_lb // Feb 10, 2008 at 20:31

    Nicky Butt is Shit

  • 42 Tom_Toon // Feb 10, 2008 at 20:41

‘Unfortuneately he is now not the player he was’

    Therefore hes shit.

  • 43 Micky // Feb 10, 2008 at 20:47

let him go he looked bored in the boro game, we’ll probly only get £7.5 although I think he’s worth more. Use that money (even though Ashley has said that KK will have loads) and put it towards Bentley and either Barnes or Downing all cracking wingers that way we can play either Milner or Bentley in the middle or in wide positions they can both make a goal out of nothign which is what we are lacking in spades at the moment. Could you imagine how many goals the likes of Martins, Owen and Vid would score for us next season with that kind of creativity behind them and the crosses that they would be producing, mouth watering prospects. The sad thing is though there aint no chance of us signing any really good players due to the fact that all the top class lads want to be playing in Europe and thats are far fetched dream for the next couple of seasons.

PS DROP SMITH, can KK not see that a strkier with his record is just as bad as Shoala??? If he aint gonna play Vid then at least give Carrol a shot

  • 44 millepede // Feb 10, 2008 at 21:31

    7.5 million

  • 45 daiv // Feb 10, 2008 at 21:52

    Micky,
Shola has a much better record than Smith. Smith has not scored a goal in 26 games. What does that say about keegan for picking him?

  • 46 UTD111 // Feb 10, 2008 at 22:55

The thing about internet polls is - anybody can answer them - even mischievous people LOL. Not worth anything really.
    Cheers

  • 47 Zx // Feb 10, 2008 at 23:14

When I saw that N’Zogbia is worth more than £10M, I just laughed. Yes, N’Zogbia is probably our best player this season, however, that does not mean he is worth that much.

He looks good because all the other players are not performing to their full potential. How many goals have N’Zogbia scored this season? How many assists? What has been his contribution so far? He is only playing okay, I would say average this season and it does not justify that sort of price tag. Do not be disappointed and start slamming KK when we eventually sell him for less than £10M because he is simply not that valuable.

  • 48 big pea ov the weab // Feb 10, 2008 at 23:29

to get rid ov zog at any price would b just down right stupid didnt he just sign a ne 3 year deal at begining ov season?
for me i think kk(if he is still here)should take stock of the quality players we have and start building his team around the type of players such as zog, taylor, enrique and beye

  • 49 big pea ov the weab // Feb 10, 2008 at 23:33

    @zx
i think ul find zog is worth every penny of that £10m price u have mentioned he is still so young i think he could b 1 ov the best the premeirship has seen in a long time
belive me i definitly dont want him to leave but he would fit into teams such as arsenal and spurs so well he has been brought down to playing at level hes playing at now by the horrid footy our club has been playin this season

  • 50 Toooooooooooooooooon // Feb 11, 2008 at 0:53

shit he is a good player….i hope we can keep him- i really do.

This is one of the reason we sux - good players are ship out and unproven players are bought in…if we keep doing this then “Every Season is a Settling down Season”

  • 51 Len // Feb 11, 2008 at 1:50

The significance of this is if Zoggy leaves then Taylor, Milner etc will not be far behind. We will be left with a team of money grabbing has beens or never was. Extending Owens contract case in point.

  • 52 Tripp // Feb 11, 2008 at 3:19

Milner isn’t going anywhere simply because the better sides in the league have no use for him. He won’t leave to go to a wigan or bolton. The same for Taylor. He isn’t the real deal yet. If he picks it up in the next few years then he might start looking beyond NUFC, but for now he’s not gonna go anywhere better and get the playing time that Alf will expect.

  • 53 John Walker // Feb 11, 2008 at 8:21

Tom_Toon you amuse me greatly, first you suggest that Downing is not good enough for the toon, why do you think he would even go to the toon? As for being good enough, if you had ever watched any proper football instead of the turgid dross served up at Sid James you would know that his delivery alone is second to none and provides at least 3 chances for other people each game. Your next comment about Deportiva being relegated is equally laughable, when do you think toon will get there first win under Keegan? Birmingham away is the first fixture that looks anything like winnable and we only have to remember what they did to you in the FA Cup last year. I would worry about your own future in the Premiership first.

As for Zog he is without doubt a top player so he will be gone next season, propably to Tottenham who are desperate for a left winger and Downing will sign another deal soon.

  • 54 quazi // Feb 11, 2008 at 8:24

um.sean. michael owen was worth 17 million and if u think n’zogbia is worth 18 than does that make him better than owen???

  • 55 Kenneth // Feb 11, 2008 at 8:36

If Boro can get £10m for Downing we should be able to pick out more from Zog.He is much better than Downing!!Zog is twice as good!!

  • 56 John Walker // Feb 11, 2008 at 8:54

Quazi, Michael Owen isn’t worth 17 million thats just what fat freddie paid for him to ensure he got his man. As usual Newcastle overpaid. Liverpool sold Owen for 9million to Real Madrid plus a player.

  • 57 Kenneth Bassan // Feb 11, 2008 at 8:56

Newcastle aint gonna get more than 8 mill max. I guess about 5-7 mill.

  • 58 Canuck // Feb 11, 2008 at 9:14

NUFC sold Solano too cheap and I think many of the existing problems with service to the frontline are linked to that terrible decision (I think Alardyce’s worst). N@Zog is not a good as Solano for service (also not nearly as smart, we miss Nobby’s intelligence), but he has a very big upside and anything less than 8 -10 M would be a gift to the buyer, especially if you sell him to a team in direct competition with you (see foolish Solano decision).

I’d sell N’Zog if he wants (not happily), but I would not even consider the sale unless it was for MORE than he is worth. If someone wants him enough and he wants to go, make THEM pay the price.

  • 59 Bill F // Feb 11, 2008 at 10:28

I suppose the question ties in with the other question are we a soft touch in the transfer market. If he goes cheaply or without a good swap deal then the answer is obvious.

  • 60 Davie // Feb 11, 2008 at 10:46

Come on… I’m sure theres alot more to be adding to the pages of this blog!

  • 61 Guinea Mag // Feb 11, 2008 at 11:02

I don’t believe NUFC are the transfer market soft touches they used to be hence Zog will be allowed to leave if the price is right.

I expect the fee to be performance related and if he does sign for the likes of Arsenal, he will join the best set of youngsters in Europe.

£8M to £10M as an initial sign on fee with incremental amounts based on performance.

  • 62 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 11:40

John Walker - When did i even comment about Downing? I didnt you scabby bastad.

  • 63 Mr T // Feb 11, 2008 at 12:10

If downings worth £10m (which he’s not, I wouldn’t have him in my 5aside team) then Zog has got to be worth at least £15. but is anyone gonna pay that for him?

I like the player, and he hope he stays cos he wants to stay, but if he wants to go, I don’t want him in black and white. Duffers and Milner will do, and use the money from Zog to help buy elsewhere. Zog should be grateful for what we’ve done for him in fairness, if he goes I hope he ends up with that other skiprat Jenas, cos I hate Tottenham. Good pair.

  • 64 EDWhite // Feb 11, 2008 at 12:41

I think the Toon will be lucky to get £5 million for N’Zogbia, because if a player does not want to play for you, there is not much you can do.
On present form NUFC will have to look to battlers in the team to keep them in the Prem, so flair players might not get a look in. Leaving N’Zogbia on the sidelines for the rest of the season and therefore affecting his value.

  • 65 M // Feb 11, 2008 at 12:46

No1 will pay over £10mil for zog.

but I agree we need to start dropping players, butt, smith definately carr - oba and owen should be good for the fast moving football we are going to be trying to play! Let’s get emre more involved and an extended run, if he cant supply then b4 end of season at least he has had chance, butt is consistent but below average this season. We know what we need in summer but lets get the players that win games on the pitch

  • 66 Nick C // Feb 11, 2008 at 13:36

Taylor. This is a No Beast Zone. Eff off.

  • 67 Dragoner // Feb 11, 2008 at 13:54

John Walker Downing is overrated, avergae player. Good delivery yes, but not versatile at all and quite frankly he is too light weight. Sign a new deal!? i think he wants to leave your crappy team dont he? We are having one of the worst seasons in years yet you have just about scraped a draw against us in both our matches. Your team is a joke

  • 68 Mr T // Feb 11, 2008 at 13:59

    don’t rise to the smoggie!

The only reason they talk about our team is there’s is so small they run out of things to talk about.

  • 69 chuck // Feb 12, 2008 at 16:35

If he insists on leaving it would be better to let him. However an even trade may be the way to go, the three top London teams are well stocked with talented players, some of which may be tempted by the opportunity to play regular football.
I don`t for a minute advocate selling him, as he is a young player with a bright future and perhaps he can be persuaded to stay, if not a trade with another talent and perhaps cash may be the way to go.
