Keegan Knows What’s Needed At Newcastle

February 11th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 90 Comments

Newcastle United have lots of work they can do in the enforced two-week break before the next game against Manchester United in just under a couple of weeks. And it looks like Keegan’s summary of the game on Saturday was spot on.

kevin-keegan-kk.jpg

Kevin Keegan - lots of work to get done on training pitch

Keegan was rightly very disappointed with our second-half display on Saturday, after we were actually in front at the break, which is unusual these days. But in the second half the physical presence of Norwegian John Carew was to much for our defense as John picked up his first hat trick for the club. But why didn’t Kevin bring on Abdoulaye Faye to deal with his physicality and heading ability?

And Keegan was forced to substitute Shay Given with the score at 2-1, after Shay’s very dodgy groin went again. The shot for the first goal was deflected to Shay’s right, and he wasn’t able to turn quickly enough as his foot gave way and his groin went again. This is a physical weakness Shay now has and it must be at least the 5th time Given’s groin has played up since he picked up the initial injury, about 16 months ago, at West Ham.

Kevin Keegan talked about this to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:

“That’s the sort of thing that happens when you are where we are.” “It’s the bit of luck you need at the other end.”“You wouldn’t wish an injury on anybody.” “Shay was so unlucky because one minute it’s heading for one corner and he’s got it covered.” “It got a deflection and he had time to move, but when he did he pulled his groin.” “Then he’s unable to make a save that he would normally make.”

“That’s bad luck and you put it down to that.” “It’s what we did about it after that disappointed not just me as manager, the staff and the players but the fans as well.” “It wasn’t good enough in the second half – nowhere near good enough for this football club.” “Some of the players ran their socks off for this football club on Saturday.”

“But I think others allowed themselves to be dominated and bullied in that second half.” “They have to look at themselves and along with ourselves we have to address that.” “Is it always going to be bad luck or is it something more engrained which suggests we can’t sustain something for 90 minutes?”

“We had everything you could want from the first half.” “We had a great goal from Michael and dealt well with everything that Villa could throw at us, even though they are a side with the confidence that we probably lack.”

“But you couldn’t tell that.” “We looked assured and we looked to have a little bit of belief in ourselves.” “We passed the ball well.” “In the second half you could make excuses about their goal which took a deflection and Shay getting injured during it.”

“That’s bad luck – I think he would have saved it normally.”

That’s really a very good and accurate summary from Kevin on what happened on Saturday. Those players who capitulated against Aston Villa have to eliminate whatever it was that had them basically give up the fight on Saturday. If they can’t do that, we have some good players to bring in.

Players like Faye, Emre, Viduka and Enrique all deserve a start in our next game, and we hope they get it. However, right now, we have no idea which team will turn up for that game against the Red Devils. It better be our good one if we are to get anything at all from the game.

One point would be good and 3 points would be just great. But we’ll have to wait and see, because we cannot take anything for granted from our current team, good or bad.

Comments welcome.

We have KK here to give us performances but the team is underperforming. I believe this squad has more ability than they show. The whole season the “team” has been chopped and changed around which isn’t good for individuals ( Roz is a good example ) and isn’t good for the team.

KK, I believe has been trying to keep a consistent team to build confidence and an understanding between team mates, however this will not happen over a game or two.

    This doesn’t help either:

“Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton could be in trouble with the Football Association after allegedly taking a swing at Villa’s Shaun Maloney.” BBC sport

Now KK has all it’s squad members back it will be interesting to see the team sheet for Man U.

Trying to forget this season and assuming/hoping we don’t get relegated in my opinion i think the following should be shipped out from toon squad:

Defence: Carr, Rozenhal, Ramage, possibly Cacapa

Midfield: Barton, Butt, Geremi, possibly Smith (down on official site as a midfielder!!). If zogs still wants out no point fighting it, and either give troisi a chance or ship him out as well.

    Strikers: Viduka, Ameobi

That would leave us with only

    GK: Given, Harper

DF: Beye, Taylor, Faye, Enrique, Edgar, (Cacapa)

    MF: Emre, Duff, Milner, (N’Zogbia)

    ST: Owen, Martins, Carroll

Really shows the lack of true quality (in terms of both effort and skill) that we have at the moment. Mind you also quite clearly highlights what i think should be our starting line up for the rest of the year:

    ——————Given/Harper———————-

    Beye——-Taylor—–Faye/Cacapa——-Enrique

    Milner——-Emre———–Faye/Zogs——-Duff

    —————Owen———–Martins—————–

Faye must start just a decision of whether he plays directly in defence or sits in front and protects them.

So for next season i’d say we need:

    1 RB, 2 CB, 1LB

    1RM, 2/3 CM, 1LM

    2 CF

Thats 9-12 players out and 10/11 players in in total and then we must give them about half a season to gel. It sounds drastic but honestly i think that is what is needed now. the players brought in don’t have to all be definate starters in all the positions but must at least be capable of challenging the starting player.

  • 3 Pete // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:09

Barton is a complete idiot, everybody knows that. Not that good a football player either to be perfectly honest, I say put him in jail where he belongs.

Against Man Utd my only hope is to avoid 6-0 again, we’ll lose the match no matter what we do. My guess is 0-4. Heck.. the result could be 0-10 and I wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow

  • 4 jeff // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:11

I think everyone and their granny knows whats needed, and thats for the players to start actually playing with passion and commitment and doing the simple things simple like passing the ball to a team mate and keeping posession and stop throwing in the towel. We need a leader on the pitch.someone who kicks ass when things are not right…The home games against Blackburn,Fulham,Reading & Mackems are massive must win games. With the players newcastle have its a disgrace where we find ourselves. But one thing I will say..This is Allardyce’s squad,he couldnt get them playing good football or attacking football,So dont expect Keegan to work miracles straight away either. if Keegan can get us safe then next season you’ll see a totally different newcastle..Yes Keegan will get the time most managers wouldnt thats because we know the score and we know he probs wont keep half the players he has at the club at the moment….And most of all he knows what we want.Once he gets his own players actually wanting to play for him,the club and for the fans we’ll all be a lot happier..

My full support for KK to collect as many points as possible and try to avoid relegation. However KK must not repeat BIG SAM’S BIG MISTAKES:
    i) to ensure right player to play at the right position.
ii) no favouritism… pick players base on their performance (especially to players which had been given so many chances like Smith and Barton - but play like chicken!)
iii) don’t afraid to change players during the game if the earlier plan is not working and please react to opponent tactical change (eg: to introduce Faye when Harewood and Carew use their physical to bully our defenders!)

  • 6 I'd Love it!! // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:19

    My team for manure:

    ———————-Harper———————-

    Beye——-Taylor—–Faye——-Enrique

    ——————Geremi—————–

    Milner——————-————–Duff

    ——————-Emre—————–

    —————Owen———–Martins—————–

    Bench:
    Forster (given injured)
    Zoggy
    Viduka
    Butt
    Cacapa
    Ameobi

  • 7 playzoginthemiddle // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:22

As I said on Friday, I was sure Carr would start, despite being a total muppet. However, there’s a fortnight now before the Man Utd game, hopefully enough time for Keegan to assess Faye and Beye properly, and play them both. Cacapa was abyssmal on Saturday, so must be dropped. Mind, so was Taylor. It’s all well and good him saying that the defence was awful to the local press, but perhaps he should look at his own performance - especialy their third goal. For what it’s worth, I’d play Harper; Beye, Faye, Taylor, Enrique; Milner, Zog, Barton, Duff; Owen, Martins.

  • 8 Kash2 // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:22

@Bosck - Spot on mate, we need a total overhaul. The only problem is that good players won’t want to sign for us next season due to our current plight!!!!

  • 9 Kash2 // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:26

@Ed - Ed can we have a poll on which fans actually want to see Barton remain at the club?

I thought he would have been great for us, but he’s a plonker without a brain and is throwing it all away because of his lack of sensibility! Plus he tried to have a dig at the fans a while back too!!!!

  • 10 Bosck // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:31

Kash2 - yeah thats the problem, i know who we need to ship out, but who we bring in to replace them, and as you say who will actually come is a different problem entirely.

  • 11 Mr T // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:41

Kash, I think all it’ll take is one good signing to get the ball rolling!

I’m screaming for Jimmy Bullard here like! And/or if Wigan go down, Jason Koumas.

  • 12 steve k // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:44

barton was wretched on saturday. he simply cannot play in his current form, and why he was sent out in the second half with emre on the bench is a mystery. every pass he made was to a villa player.

to be honest there’s no excuse for saturday’s performance. and players such as butt, smith and barton need to be jettisoned soon.

i just have to question why kk hasn’t had any impact since he arrived, we’re as bad as ever. it’s a terrible start for him, i hope it gets better but to be honest i can’t see this managerial run being any better than the last few.

  • 13 Mr T // Feb 11, 2008 at 14:46

    any better than since…..Keegan?

  • 14 ANDY TOON // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:03

Every player on the bench saturday should have started!

  • 15 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:09

‘Keegan Knows What’s Needed At Newcastle’

Does he though? I have my doubts for the main reason:

‘We arent lacking creativity, we are lacking confidence’

That is slightly true but even with confidence we are creative enough.

    (Great Escape Theme Tune)

  • 16 GP // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:09

Jimmy Bullard? Koumas? Are you high, Mr. T? We’re trying to become a top six team here in the long term and you suggest those two? You must have a very limited knowledge of world football. Try watching a match outside of the premierleague.

  • 17 Chicken // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:15

Jimmy Bullard - ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha :) that is funny man

  • 18 Sims // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:18

    ANDY TOON,
I think you’re spot on mate. Every player on the bench should have been playing.
Harper, Enrique, Faye, Viduka and Emre. Take out Given, Carr, Cacapa, Butt and Smith.
I suspect that Keegan likes his boys Carr, Butt and Smith but on form they are poor. How a crap right back gets in infront of a Spanish U21 player is beyond me.
That’s what worries me tho’……………Keegan should have spotted that before Saturday.

  • 19 Macas // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:21

Keegan was never any good at making substitutions to change a game until it was far too late. And as for the Bullard remarks, people may laugh but unfortunately I wouldn’t say he was any worse than any other midfielder we have at the moment, and better than most of them!

  • 20 Sims // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:23

Chicken……………how can you be so flippant towards any player when we have a bunch of tosh playing in the middle of the park ? Bullard would never even come into my thoughts but he’s a quality player and you know what………….he’s a damn sight better than any Central Midfielder we’ve got.

  • 21 nightfall // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:23

kevin’s an idiot..he’ll play enrique against man utd and surely he won’t be able to put his best perforamnce against a team like that so he’ll probably be dropped for next matches… play him against teams we CAN beat… for fcuk sake…kevin’s just another gambler… i don’t get it…first sam and now kevin…like sbd. wants to sabotage our club…

  • 22 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:24

Ye Bullard is a good player but im not sure about Koumas.

  • 23 Bosck // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:26

People should stop having such stuck up ideas about a player just because he plays at a “smaller” club.

In case anyone didnt notice, we lost 4-1 to villa this weekend, the same villa that Jimmy Bullard almost single handedly beat the other week. Not saying we should necessarily sign him but being at a smaller club does not automatically mean you would not be good at a big club.

  • 24 Chicken // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:30

Bullard looks like someone’s gran - all he needs is a blue rinse and one of them shopping baskets on wheels.

He looks half decent cos he plays for a crap team.

If that is the best we can hope/wish for then we are even more fooked than I first thought.

Having said all that - I’d have him any day of the week over Joey Barton.

  • 25 jeff // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:34

    we’ll beat Blackburn at home
    beat Fulham
    beat Reading
    Draw with Mackems

and hopefully get a victory away at birmingham
Thats another 13 points before end of season.

yes we are playing crap but there are also crap teams below us.

  • 26 steve k // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:35

The sad truth is we’ll need to improve with Bullards before we attract Decos.

Even if I was a massive Geordie fan there is no way I’d move to Newcastle if I was a player, at least not at the moment.

We have a squad that has never played well together, it’s a complete disaster.

I feel incredibly negative about the Toon at the moment, simply put I’m just tired of having my Saturdays ruined by our performances.

WAKE ME UP WHEN IT’S OVER.

  • 27 GM // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:38

I dont think our current form will influence players come the end of the season, as long as we are still in the premiership. Look at mancity they were crap last year but come the summer sven managed to get a shed load of good players in and look at them now, I’m just hoping we do the same, think everton were in a similar boat as well a couple of years ago, they finished 16th or something, then the following year qualified for uefa cup, now they have a chance at champions league spot, thats what we need to aim at.

  • 28 scott9 // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:41

yes bullard is just what we need i dont no if he would come though cause i think he likes living in london anyone see we have been linked with celtic mcdonald could be a good signing

  • 29 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:43

Im watching the movie: Shoter at the moment to learn tips on how to sniper Butt and Smith.

  • 30 jeff // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:45

Steve K………..So much for loyal support….you know supporting through good times and bad times…….stay asleep mate too many of your type supporters are spoiling football anyway …

  • 31 steve // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:50

I dont think KK has a clue whats needed, why play

Smith instead of Viduka ( I reckon Sholas a better striker than headless Smith)

Barton instead of Emre (its a football club not fight club)

Carr instead of Enrique (jeez he aint even a good right back)

    Cacapa instead of Faye

All in all it’s depressing - we need to stay in the premiership and to do that we need to use our best players - Butt, Smith and Barton need to have a spell out the team

jeff - if he wasn’t a loyal supporter he wouldnt be having his saturdays ruined just like the rest of us!

  • 32 James // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:55

    Interesting words from Fat Sam

    http://www.caughtoffside.com/2008/02/11/allardyce-newcastle-united-too-small-for-me/5350.html

He says Newcastle is too small a club for him!

  • 33 Kash2 // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:58

I like Jimmy Bullard, he’s an old school midfielder who has glue on his boots (thats why the ball sticks close to him when he dribbles). If it wasn’t for injuries he would have done wonders for Fulham.

Maybe it will take only 1 signing to get the ball rolling, but we have a terrible problem with consistency with our players. We need a few good signings and then some potential players for the squad. At least that way there’ll be plenty of competition and keeping players on there toes.

  • 34 Kash2 // Feb 11, 2008 at 15:59

I was saying last week how Given always hoofs the ball upfield. I was eating my words on Saturday when Carr and Cacapa looked like amateurs trying to play the ball out of defence. That was the worst example of playing from the back!!!!

  • 35 Chicken // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:04

    Uh oh!

I’ve just seen the Barton incident on SSN.

Looks much, much worse than I first thought - he appears to throw 2 punches at the Villa player.

Surely this has to be the very last of all JB’s last chances now.

If KK comes out and stands by him, or tries to defend him, it’s only gonna put more distance between KK and some of the doubting fans (myself included).

  • 36 Matt // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:08

Don’t know why you think we have to attract average players to move up the league.
All depends on what Cashley wants to do, and how much dosh he has to spend.
Look at Man City. Very poor league position last year and they have gone out and bought virtually an entire squad.
    Why can’t we do similar?
We already have the forwards (virtually), we have some midfield talent (but not enough), we have some backline talent (Beye, Faye and hopefully Taylor & Enrique).
If we make some bold statements early in the transfer window then I think we could get some great players. Although we look miles away if we added an Elano, Petrov, Corluka, a great CB and some other creative talent we would have a very formidable side.
First we need to stay up. Have to beat Blackburn, MUST beat Sunderland, Reading, Fulham all at home.
We should be able to get something away at Birmingham.
Other possible points from West Ham (a), Portsmouth (a little less likely) and Everton(a) on the last day depending upon whether their table position is secured.
And I’m not sure that we will need 40 points. There are so many teams scraping around 22,23 points that are rubbish.

  • 37 Kash2 // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:14

We need to get rid of the chaff from our squad. I would get rid of as many older players as possible, and try to recruit younger talent with more of a hunger to play football. We want players who aren’t afraid to go out on to St. James Park and express themselves on the pitch!!!!

  • 38 ToonUSA // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:16

When are we going to get a good shake up of the team from KK. Look at what Ramos did at Spurs droping the players with the big egos and now they are flying high. I am not sure if KK is taking the time to get there as well but i am praying to God it happnes soon. All the reports seem to be about him praizing the players…and whats this about MO getting a new contract please nothing against the lil bugger but at this point and time none of our current starts deserve a new contract NONE of THEM. All we can hope for is for Carr, Butt, Smith and maybe even millner not to be available for a game or two. This is my team for ManU game

    Harp/Foster

    Baye……….Fay…………..Tayls………..Rico/Edgar

    Duff…………Barton…………Emer………….Zog

    Vid………………Owen

  • 39 Matt // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:17

With regards to our team makeup. How about looking to what we did with SBR
Bought a lot of young talent and played an attacking style.
So sell off our old hasbeens. As an Australian I hate to say Viduka, but probably has had it…he just gets injured too often. Sell Butt (sorry give away Butt).
Bye bye to smith, cacapa, and most of our old players.
Get in arrogant youngsters (see Tottenham previously and Arsenal).
    Would be good to watch!
Would work with keegans attacking passing style…

  • 40 Bosck // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:18

As others have said i think given the current situation a number of the players we should bring in should be solid if unspectacular players that whilst they might not be rated by everyone, they will help to build a solid base for a year or so:

    RB: Hunt
    CB: Shittu, Hyppia
    LB: Shorey/Konchesky

    RM: Bentley/Kightley
    CM: Barnes
    CM: Bullard
CM: ? maybe a star name
LM: Surman. Morten Gamst Pedersen (but Blackburn won’t sell both wingers).

    CF: Ashton
    CF: Kitson

Basically buy a solid squad for next year and then maybe throw in a couple of star names but i’d rather get a solid side to play consistently for next season rather than a bunch of star names who still don’t gel.

  • 41 Micky Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:25

Of course Keegan knows what is needed. Problem is he doesn’t know how to deliver it. Witness him on Saturday. Sitting with his head in his hands, motionless. Now look at a Martin O’Neil. There was more movement from O’Neil than any one of our players on Saturday. I think Keegan thought like a lot of people did that it would be a simple case of pick up where he left off. Dream on. I’ve said it many times on here, and I’ve always been berated for it, but Keegan doesn’t have a clue when it comes to tacticts.
Look, he learned his management style from one of the greates, Bill Shankley. Bill Shankley’s philosophy was play how he wanted to play and never change it. This is how Keegan manages. Unfortunatley we don’t have the players to dominate games like Shankley’s Liverpool side did. We do need to change it about if our tactics aren’t working for us. Keegan does not know how to do this. We play one way and one way only. If it works, great, if it doesn’t we are stuffed.
Open your eyes and you will see that Keegan is out of his depth. We say they team has no confidence, what about the boss? Keegans greatest strength was always his ability to inspire players. If he cannot do that then what use is he?
We needed to get shot of BSA, of course we did. Mike Ashley is a romantic, like a lot of you. Keegan was the romantic appointment, not something that someone who was thinking correctly would have done. He needs to get out of the stands, take a step back and look at the club objectively and not through rose tinted specs. I suggest some of you do the same and see where the club is really heading under Keegan.
Saying that I will support the team and the manager, unlike some of the idiots who always boo the team. Those are the people we could do without, not us objective fans who can see the bigger picture.

  • 42 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:26

Konchesky, Hunt, Barnes and Shorey, you dont half make me lugh ;)

ToonUSA - KK is not Ramos, he isnt in the same class.

  • 43 Gooderz // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:29

I wouldn’t mind Barnes or Shorey. Barnes is one for the future, and Shorey is very consistent (although I’d prefer Bridge or Riise).

I want to see Emre and Geremi given a go in the middle. They seem the happiest and more confident of the players and could help keep the ball better and create a bit more too.

  • 44 Bosck // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:36

    Tom_toon - why?

Barnes is good potential, konchesky and shorey are 2 of the most solid lb’s in the league and both english, and i would be more than happy with hunt as back up to beye. Solid not spectacular is what we need now. we’ve had too many “stars” who have achieved sod all.

instead of laughing at my suggestions explain why you dont agree, and maybe even suggest viable replacements.

look at how well jagielka and lescott have done for everton this year, but they weren’t star names when they were brought in from the championship.

  • 45 Rich // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:40

I was just thinking about the Man Utd game and the team i would like to play and the team that will be played will be so different. The team that shoulsd start based on form, confidence and attitude and getting us out of trouble:

    Harper
    Beye Taylor Faye Enrique

    Milner Emre Geremi N Zogbia

    Owen Martins

SUBS: Given if fit(Forster), Cacapa, Barton, Duff, Viduka.

  • 46 Rich // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:42

The team that will be played now:
    Given
    Beye Taylor Faye N Zogbia

    Milner Butt Emre Duff
    Owen Smith

Subs: Harper, Cacapa, Geremi, Barton, Martins

The local press really need to get over themselves!!!

    http://www.shieldsgazette.com/nufc/Owen39s-a-man-of-few.3765129.jp

No one owes the press any paper selling interviews, the players work for NUFC and its fans, not for press and the money they can earn by milking the players.

  • 48 david bulman // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:44

agree with mickey toon,i said from the start i am a fan of what keegan done last time at newcastle but he shouldnt have come back and risk ruining his reputation.the premiership has changed alot and he hasnt watched football in 3 years and it showed on saturday.he looked lost on sat and was hard to believe he didnt try bring on viduka or faye.couldnt believe he started carr at left back and not give enrique a game who is a natural left back and looks good but will probaly never get his fair chance and be sold off as a failure, its a joke, faye should have played for cacapa.we needed a ramos type manager who has transformed spurs and bought well.

  • 49 Chicken // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:47

Is anyone gonna comment on the fact that Joey Barton appeared to throw 2 punches at Maloney before wrestling him to the ground?

You lot still gonna stand by him???

    Fking disgrace!

  • 50 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:52

Bosck you can buy very well from the championship, as you pointed out Surman is a very good young player.

Barnes isnt very good at the mo but has good potential.

Shorey and Konchesky are pretty bad and i couldn’t give two flying fks if they were english.

    I do rate Shittu though.

If we stay up id say these target would improve us immense and are realistic.

    LB/LW: Maxwell
    CDM: Rolfes
    CAM: Kahlenberg
RM: Bentley (teetering on unreaslistic atm)
    ST: Marica

Then we need a good CB and a tall striker but i cant think of many realistic ones off the top of my head.

  • 51 Chicken // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:53

    Obviously not

  • 52 Chicken // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:55

TT - I don’t think you need to worry yourself too much about whether potential targets are realistic or not.

As we’ve seen many times in the past - money talks. How else would we have signed Owen and come within a midgey’s dick of signing Rooney?

  • 53 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:58

Because then we were in a lot better state than where we are now, and money doesnt talk when your straggling at the bottom.

  • 54 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 16:59

i dont know what to think anymore

surely one day we will not need to put soo much negative analysis into our post match comments because its getting us all down

  • 55 Bosck // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:00

Fair enough Tom_Toon we’ll have to agree to disagree on the two LB’s!!!!!

  • 56 Chicken // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:00

mate - we’ve been treading midtable water for the last 3 seasons.

the closest we’ve come to europe is via a backdoor intertoto camapaign.

I don’t think things are that different now.

  • 57 Kash2 // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:00

Fcuking right it does, Spurs were bottom this season!!!!

  • 58 Kash2 // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:02

We need new players, we don’t need the has been retards that we have now. The whole of Newcastle will give KK time to assemble his team, and we don’t mind he doesn’t have any tactical knowledge because we all know and like how he plays…………………….. Which is

    ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK THAT MOTHERF>>>>>>>

  • 59 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:03

Mid table with a chance of getting into europe, whatever way possible VS relegation fodder and lucky to stay up.

I dont think money talks that much.

  • 60 Micky Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:17

Chicken, the Barton incident has been commented on a couple of times in this blog already.
Personally I think he’s a nasty bit of work who I regard as highly as I do Lee Bowyer.
We should have been trying to get rid of him, instead of KK pandering to him and saying how he was a good lad and trying to play him.
If he worked for me he would have been sacked.
I hope the only reason barton is still around is becuase we are short on numbers, and if we were in a better position he would have been gone by now or at least rotting on the reserves subs bench.

  • 61 Eve // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:20

Meh, I don’t know. It’s one thing to play badly, but it’s another like to be hanging on in and then get a run of bad luck. Deflections, injuries, Barton..etc. When things are going bad..

(I wonder if Harewood was standing there thinking when Given went off..woops my bad, doubt it, that groin is a pain the ass, maybe in the summer seeing as there’s nothing on, maybe he should get surgery on it, I’m sure they held back the last time but maybe it needs to be fixed like that)

Anyway em. To win you need a bit of luck on your side, and we haven’t had that for a very long time.

  • 62 Bosck // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:29

Oh and make carrick the star name in the summer, a geordie homecoming a la shearer.

Just been talking to a Man Utd. fan i work with who reckons the cm will be hargreaves and scholes with anderson rotating, and he doesnt think carrick will be happy to just sit on the bench.

So my team for next season:

    ———————–Given—————————

    Beye———-Faye———–Shittu———-Enrique

    Bentley—–Carrick———Bullard————Duff

    —————Ashton——–Owen/Martins———-

Bench: Harper, Shorey, Hyppia, Barnes, Emre, Kitson, Owen/Martins (7 man bench as of next year if i’m not wrong)

i doubt i’ll see any of those signings tho!!!!

  • 63 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:31

Ashton wont stay fit for 5 games in a row. Buy foreign all these shit english players re overrated and too expensive and think they are gods gift.

  • 64 Bosck // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:36

We’re gonna have to disagree on that one as well Tom_toon!!!!

Personally i think ashton is free of his injury problems and he will be one of the top strikers in the premiership next year. hopefully with us but probably not. personally given the alleged cash available this summer i would tell west ham to name their price.

  • 65 Eve // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:46

In the summer, I’ve a wee wish list, but that wish list isn’t reasonable unless you can see Rooney, Fabregas and Ronaldo come to Newcastle then I’m not going to bother putting them down.

So I’ve kinda cut it down to this..reasonable, possibility.
Carrick..I wish. He’d be a really good addition to our mid. I don’t know if he’d leave United cause well, it’s Man U, but they did spend, what 18 million for him, to pretty much try and fill the void Keane left, but they paid 18 million for him to sit on the bench.

The 2 Irish lads from City were class against us.

Richard Dunne, why we didn’t attempt to buy him I don’t know. He was amazing against us, picked up the Ireland player of the Year award.
Dunne is just such a solid defender for City and Ireland, he’s about the only defender who Given trusts. He’s a great captain.

Stephen Ireland, his passing was supreme, the wee young fella has a few problems all right like but he could be a really good addition to our mid.

Another Irish lad..I absolutely adore this wee fella, Sunderland wanted him, but Reading said no on a few occasions.

Stephen Hunt, we need to do something with our midfield. And this lad. I love this wee fella, just look at him. Not only is he so unique and original he’s an amazing players, the refs don’t seem to like him though. When he gets the ball it’s like this massive spark of energy. He’s not a pretty boy Ronaldo but he’s class.

    Who else.
A big TALL forward, we’ve a dinchy team, a wee team, hell even our keepers are small. But we need a tall forward someone to lob the ball in to, like your man, the future Drogba, the Sunderland guy, Kenwyne Jones.

There just a few I’d like to see. Not all of them maybe but one or two.

  • 66 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:51

im not too far off your team. quite good my opinion would be

    ———————–Harper—————————

    Beye———-Faye———–Kompany———-Enrique

    Bentley—–Carrick———Barnes————Duff

    —————Hunterlar*——–Martins———-

i would like to see us looking at another two wing specialist to push duff and bently all the way people with as much pace as possible, i liked that peter odenwengi guy for nigeria he was so quick

shorey kitson would be good signings we have to be looking at up and coming players who have something to prove not just want the money

  • 67 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 17:53

Kompany turned down Real Madrid, Manure, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelone, Inter Milan and AC Milan because he wanted to developed, now hes developed you really think hes going to come to us?!?!?

    Odemwinge is a striker aswell.

Not to mention Huntelaar, sorry to spoil your dreams leo but lets have a bit of realism.

  • 68 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:01

kompany and carrick are probly unreasonable players that we could get, not inprobably just highly unlikely just a wish

have any idea why he turned them down tom?

eve constantly wishing we signed irish players, whats that about? you inlove with ireland or something ;-)

  • 69 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:02

ah tom i didnt read the whole thing, he wanted to develop, well maybe now he would be interested…. haha only wishing

  • 70 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:04

how come Nigeria played Odemwinge as more of a winger? was it just because they didnt have a good enough winger that he played there?

    i mean for the ACN

  • 71 big pea ov the weab // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:24

i no wots needed A F**N MIRICLE the fact that kk hasent got a clue wot players to play were
carr butt and smith out is wot we need to play them is just diabolical y o y he played carr on the left is toataly beyond me my 7 year old bairn could ov done a better job than that mug

  • 72 Tom_Toon // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:44

Leo - They took 6 strikers and they dont have any good wingers that why Nsofor, Uche and Odemwingie played as wingers although they are all strikers. Odemwingie and Nsofor can play on the wing as they play a wing forward role but probably wouldnt be happy there.

  • 73 Punk Skunk // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:47

i can’t be arsed with who to buy/sell for next season, it’s now that counts. KK please play this team ’til the end of the season-Consistantly!..

    …………………..Harper…………………
    Beye-Faye-Taylor-Enrique
    Milner-Emre-Zog-Duff
    Owen-Viduka/Martins

Subs(from): Given-Carr-Butt-Geremi-Barton-Lua Lua-Smith-Carroll, anyone we find down the back of the couch!..

…We need to play the same team 3/4/5 games
straight, bollox to all this chopping & changing!..
…Continuety, consistency, solidity, call it what you like!..

  • 74 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 18:56

yeah, if he is a striker your right he wont be happy playing on the wing

  • 75 neil09 // Feb 11, 2008 at 19:06

although this may be laughed off the internet, but i hear that the Ronaldo of A.C. Milan is looking for a new contract at the end of the season. Maybe a bosman transfer? any thoughts

  • 76 willyeoh // Feb 11, 2008 at 19:16

I say why don’t we just give the whole youth team a chance to play instead of the senior squad! I bet they will have loads more passion than the senior squad.

Players come to Newcastle for only one thing—big pay check. and then they just rot there as they are already getting more then they could ever bargain for and just want to enjoy their life! Why work so hard, the club will never sack them, the club cannot afford to sack them, especially now! We have such a thin squad and we are at the players’ mercy!

So I say give the youngster a chance! Roeder went for it and it paid good dividend (Although he didn’t have much choice then).

  • 77 Jamie G // Feb 11, 2008 at 20:03

its time we all accepted it im afraid. we are SHIT this season. we have to right it off. tottenham a few seasons ago just prior to appointing frank arneson as their transfer technician were like we are now…shit, over payed players with no real spine and leaking goals like the iraqi navy. now we have a ‘behind the scenes’ team set up this is a chance to make some benificial transfers. this summer i would like to see what tottenham did a few seasons ago and buy loads of young players with good potential (they bought lennon, huddlestone, dawson, reid among others.) now im not saying all of their transfers like zamora and reid were a success but l0ok at lennon, dawson etc. we also need to mix this with experience, and i actually liked sam’s thinking in buying players like smith and geremi, proven prem pedigree. i personally think smith’s best position of just behind the strikers where he can flick on balls and hold up play and shift it out wide.

thats why i think the team against united should be.
    Given(if fit)

    beye, taylor, faye, enrique

    milner geremi duff

    smith
    owen martins.

  • 78 ToonUSA // Feb 11, 2008 at 20:06

    Yo willyeoh
City is playing a strong reserve side so i am very egar to see how the youngesters perform in that match. If they can beat or even put on a good show then I think KK should seriously look into it. Lets not forget all the youth inspired performancess of the last few seasons.

  • 79 daiv // Feb 11, 2008 at 20:35

I think Keviun is making such rank bad selections that it almost seems he is doing it on purpose. I reckon the mackems are paying his wages. he’ll keep picking Butt Smith and Carr and get us relegated. He was manager of Fulham when he said he would never return to NUFC. Unfinished business… aye …to get us relegated. Bring Big Al back asap. KK is clueless and we know it but cannot admit it.

  • 80 Mighty Mouse // Feb 11, 2008 at 20:44

    as if Carrick would come…lol

Konchesky is an inconsistent, egotistical moron
Shorey might work although Reading seem to be the only worse off than us atm.
Barnes is incredibly overrated and not even worth the 2M we bid, ask the Derby lot.
Bullard would walk straight into our team
Would love to see us pay big for Bentley

cancel the contracts of Barton, Butt, Geremi and Ramage
Take whatever we can get for Smith, Viduka, Owen, Milner and Duff

  • 81 ToonUSA // Feb 11, 2008 at 21:33

Well, our reserve side held City with 8 first team players to a 1-1 score line. We had Shola playing with any note of first team experiance. Well done by the young lads and i hope KK playes one or two of them in the next few games.

  • 82 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 23:23

EVERYONE WHO IS CALLING FOR HIS HEAD, (WHO SAID THAT THEY WANTED TO GIVE HIM TIME) SHOULD GO FK THEMSELVES WITH A RUSTY BREAD KNIFE

  • 83 Leo* // Feb 11, 2008 at 23:25

fair enough if you had doubts in the first place though.

saying things like he is being paid by the mackams may be funny, but its just being negative and causing the club problems with moral

  • 84 houseibmcana // Feb 11, 2008 at 23:37

about Forest. were called about let it go. suggested School we watched cutting off

  • 85 Dirt McGirt // Feb 12, 2008 at 2:22

KK hasn’t got a clue and neither does Ashley and Mort. Sadly Wise may be running this team by the end of the season.

  • 86 Ginola // Feb 12, 2008 at 3:05

Hey, I hope KK play me this weekend (to replace Alan Smith) Since I’m also able to run for 90 minuts and do some hardwork not mention I can tackle and get a yellow card. Btw I dont have any skills, I cant pass or dribble what I can do is work hard in the field.

  • 87 hanz_emre // Feb 12, 2008 at 7:18

am with all you guys that we need to start to play just better players in right positions e.g. Enrique in LB, Emre in CM/CAM (no Barton & Butt please),Viduka/ Carroll as CF along with MO. Now we must add Harper & Zogbia (in CM) to play for the rest of the season. Just keep away Barton,Smith, Ameobi,Carr & play others/youngsters instead. Hope these players have better mentality & physical to fight in our battle.

  • 88 Ian // Feb 12, 2008 at 9:01

I think we need to try something different, the more the match goes on the more confidence they get because they realise none of the players are capable of scoring, Owen will score if he gets service=the ball on his toe or head 6 feet in front of an open goal. Two goals in ten games is crap, and why does no-one say Martins wasnt getting service? He was in front of the same team minus a few players! He scored with no service.
I would try NZogbia and Martins at the front, they link up really well and have set each other up for goals many times before, so we know they work well together, I would then play Duff,Smith, Gerami or Emre, and Milner then Edgar left back or Enrique, I like Edgar though, then the usual three Taylor and co, if we need to change the forwards I would take Duff off drop Nzogbia back then bring on either Viduka or Owen alongside Martins.
Smith is good in midfield, he is usually involved with gaining possession of the ball, I dont know if it is skill work rate or if they are just frightened he will slide and take their legs off but he makes them lose possession, he also creates play from midfield, he is definately best in midfield and not at the front.

  • 89 ricky toon // Feb 12, 2008 at 13:11

I still cant over the fact that Keegan watched the game slip away from us in the 2nd half and did nothing about it!
If he thought that Villa wouldn’t come back in the second half or that the players on the pitch were capable of defending a 1-nil lead, he’s crazier than I thought.

  • 90 scott9 // Feb 12, 2008 at 16:08

realisticly my team for next season (carrick no chance)
    given
    beye cambell taylor shorey
