Newcastle United winger Damien Duff is facing yet another possible driving ban, after this time being clocked at more than 100mph.

Damien Duff - caught speeding - again
Damien was clocked doing 101.2mph in his Range Rover on a 70mph stretch of the A19 at Cramlington. Duff’s solicitors have already entered a guilty plea to the charge, when the case was before the South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court. Magistrates have now ordered the Dublin born player to come before the court to face his sentence.
This case comes after Duff has twice escaped prosecution, despite vehicles belonging to him being caught on camera, clearly breaking speed limits. We know Damien is fast – but this is ridiculous.
Jeremy Forsberg of the Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative said:
“This is a serious offense and traveling at that speed is extremely dangerous.†“He is a role model for a lot of people and it is so ludicrous to be driving at this speed. I just hope the punishment fits the crime.â€
“Road safety groups work tirelessly to change people’s attitudes towards the way they drive and this behavior undermines all the work these people do.” “His vehicles have now been involved in three cases and all have been dangerous incidents.â€
“It can only be 100 per cent proved he was driving in this latest case but, in relation to all of them, anyone travelling at such speeds is putting the lives of themselves and other road users at serious risk.”
Duff must have a thing with speeding because he seems to get into continual trouble. It’s something Damien really needs to cut out, because as Forsberg says, it’s extremely dangerous, and Duff is a role model to many of our kids on Tyne-side.
With fame comes responsibility. and we hope Duff heeds these warnings before his penchant for speed has more serious consequences.
Comments welcome.

Leo - When you finally end up splattered across some motorway, it will be a time of celebration for the human race as hopefully, you haven’t passed your inferior genes on.

Thank you Mr Leo* I shall be along to see you very soon to discuss this with you. The Hire Company were a little concerned at getting there Vehicle back in that clapped out condition.

Hey Leo, you could perhaps qualify for a Darwin award.

7 Callum // Feb 14, 2008 at 12:38

Hopefully a nice long ban from playing football, cant stand this guy in a Newcastle shirt, so slow, lightweight and rubbish after all his injuries!

i know my rights haha, you have to have evidence before you can convict. lol… up middle finger.
i had it for the day, was a bit of fun and they had scratched my car when it had been in previously, and only repaired it, me=furious
anyone know if you can do anything when a garage scraches ur car and only repairs it with paint. i mean you cant see it had been done but i knew… bit pedantic but i love my car.
14 Leo* // Feb 14, 2008 at 13:39
big pea. everyone breaks the speed limit on the a1, its barely busy through the day, i would never put anyone at risk, i cant believe you would wish that upon someone, grow up you idiot.
15 Jamie // Feb 14, 2008 at 13:42
Time and a place for speeding! Yes I speed, but going 137 mph is just stupid.

GREAT call on the darwin award hahahaha
and leo cant believe ur tellin someone to grow up when you maxed out a courtesy car “just to see wat it could offer” everyone does speed but only real idiots would go at somethin like 137
17 Leo* // Feb 14, 2008 at 13:45
on a massively straight bit of road with no cars on…
if those who hope i die because i speed, do they wish that upon people like keiron dyer, lee bowyer and many other people who have publically driven along way over the speed limit.
im not going to argue my case anymore, i wouldnt have done it if it wasnt safe, yes i may drive at 80mph on the a1 normally but this is worse than drunk driving? i think not.
one instance of driving 137 mph and it was safe, end of
18 jeff // Feb 14, 2008 at 13:54
is this blog about leo or duff???
19 jeff // Feb 14, 2008 at 13:55
I dont think duff will be here next season anyway….if keegan cant keep hold of charlie boy then he will have someone with flair and pace to play up the left wing…..too many players at the toon are past it and duff is defo one of those
20 Leo* // Feb 14, 2008 at 14:24
i think duff will be here, simply because i really think that charlie will choose to leave.
we will however need a left winger either way
21 ste // Feb 14, 2008 at 14:42
i can’t believe this people! speed limits should be dropped by 10mph everywhere and cars should have speed limits of 60mph.
‘yes i may drive at 80mph on the a1′ no better than going 347mph in a 30mph limit i think.
everyone please make sure that seatbelts are worn for the future.
22 big pea ov the weab // Feb 14, 2008 at 14:59
@leo
if u think that it is big and clever to speed around just because some loser footy players who think there beyond the law is clever why don’t you come to where i’m from and say that to my friends parents - I don’t think u would leave our estate alive u f***in prick

26 greek toon // Feb 14, 2008 at 15:21
I suspect Leo’s taking the piss chaps. By the way you can still see the Opel Nova in greece. Even morris marina and austin 1100
27 Leo* // Feb 14, 2008 at 15:23
big pea stop being an idiot. meet you… erm no thanks, the story was about duff speeding, all i was trying to say was that everyone speeds, but its got to be in context. always abide by the speed limits when its in a built up area or if there is traffic.
i realise i have offended people, for that i am sorry i will say nothing more about it.
28 ste // Feb 14, 2008 at 15:24
I drive a vauxhall corsa 1.0 1998 model. It only does about 80 max and it takes about 60 secons to get to that… and thats down hill, no chance of me speeding yay.
Steve… Mclaren F1 mmm i wish
29 briss // Feb 14, 2008 at 16:23
Duff is not the reason we are playing poorly though he does seem to lose te ball a lot in areas where he should do better. he’s just not seeing the openings but i think hes coming into form and still useful. if we can make threatening runs in the box and duff can actually cross at the right time we might go somewhere
30 ste // Feb 14, 2008 at 16:53
briss i agree. Duff does lose the ball alot. Pundits and commentatators seems to like him alot because he tries to take people on, but theres no point in it if hes going to lose the ball when we have just regained the ball. Butt does this aswell please get butt out the squad… at least replace him with Geremi, and play someone creative with him.
31 Jamie G // Feb 14, 2008 at 16:59
ED, i think leo should be banned from this blog. hes foolish, and has been known to make racist comments as well.
32 andyc290 // Feb 14, 2008 at 17:01
I had my little brothers bmx up to 141mph down watergate bank in gateshead and went flyin past a copper with a speed gun but he couldnt catch me cos i had sum waxer reflectors on the spokes that i got free out of a box of coco pops and the flash on the camera just reflected back so they didnt get me photo.
33 Leo* // Feb 14, 2008 at 17:03
when have i made racist comments!?
34 Dan // Feb 14, 2008 at 18:53
what a Duff-er!
35 Bill F // Feb 14, 2008 at 18:58
I know I had a crack at Leo but it was meant in fun, I certainly would not want to see him banned from the site I love reading his stuff. He doesn’t sit around for hours mulling it over just comes straight out with what he is thinking. Bet he is a great laugh over a pint in the pub.
Actually I wouldn’t want to ban anyone from the site I love the cr*p as much as the good stuff. If you don’t like a comment then just ignore it, in a few days it’s history and forgotten. Although there is the odd person with elephantine memories.
36 Leo* // Feb 14, 2008 at 19:37
cheers bill. i took ur comment in good heart was funny.
forgetting what i said earlier, i too enjoy the little tifs that people have as much as i enjoy reading the good stuff
