Keegan Impressed with Faye - Good

Friday February 15th, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 130 Comments

We were surprised when Keegan left Abdoulaye Faye on the bench last Saturday, and his physical presence and heading ability were badly needed against Aston Villa, but for some reason Keegan didn’t use him.

abdoulaye-faye-676.jpg

Abdoulaye Faye - Keegan impressed with Senegalese star

Faye can play at center-back or defensive midfield and we feel he should be starting every game through the end of the season. Faye and Baye are the top two players Big Sam signed last summer, according to our poll.

Both Beye and Faye’s capture were announced by Newcastle some 15 minutes after last summer’s transfer window closed. They have turned out to be Sam’s best signings.

Kevin told the Evening Chronicle today:

“I am delighted to have Abdoulaye back.” “I have been very impressed with both him and Habib Beye.” “They both played a part in Senegal’s tournament and now have a role to play here.”

“As far as Abdoulaye is concerned, he is a very good professional and he’s done a very good job here.” “He’s a big lad and we certainly need some height in the team at the moment.”

“But it’s not only his height, he has great experience as well.”

Faye will very probably make his first appearance since his return from Ghana, when Manchester United come to Tyne-side on 23rd February, a week tomorrow for a 5:15 PM kick off.

Keegan added:

“By the time we play Manchester United I hope to have all four of the players that were involved in Ghana back in contention.”

“That will give everybody here a big lift.”

It will be an important game for Newcastle, and we want to see an improved performance from the side. That’s the most important thing - to start to play at their best - so we can then start picking up vital points that will keep us in the Premier league for next season.

First things first.

Comments welcome.

    weeeeeeeee

  • 2 Eric // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:19

I think Faye is a good strong defender and merits a run in the side. I also think he has the edge over Cacapa by some way. And I like Faye’s determination too. Beye is our best right back and classier than ’sick note’ Carr. Also I think Enriques needs a run in the side - it is no good putting Carr or Zog at left back. With all this hoo-ha about Zog wanting to leave what do we do? Play him every game in his favoured position and pursuade him to stay or leave him on the bench with him pram toys? Butt can captain the reserves and Barton can captain the Durham Jail XI.

  • 3 Mitch H // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:20

This lad was Fat Sam’s best buy. He’s all buisness. No frills, just gets the job done. Beye & Faye have been superb buys & i’m sure they will do us a great job, especially when KK has had time to start shaping the team.

Carr, Butt & Smith, just have to be dropped.

    Ho’way the Lads !

  • 4 Jamie // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:23

eric - id rather see butt retire lol.

  • 5 Jamie // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:26

beye n faye are an example to the rest of the players at nufc, i really like enrique n his decent left peg, want him n zogs playing tandom left wing.

  • 6 Davies // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:30

Faye is quality and definitely merits the praise he has been getting from KK and elsewhere. Whilst Cacapa has had some moments of genius, he’s not nearly as consistent as Abdulaye.

I also agree that Licky Butt has had his day. He seems to do little more than give the ball away and attract yellow cards. Can we see something that wor Kev can’t?

Maybe Roy Keane can have him…….and Shola.

    Hello again mikeygd. Weeeeeeeeee.

  • 7 Bosck // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:32

Team i reckon we should pick for Manchester United match:

    Harper
    Beye
    Faye
    Taylor/Cacapa
    Enrique
    Milner
    Emre
    N’Zogbia
    Duff
    Martins
    Owen

you wont defend the game out against manchester united. you have to take the gaem to them so pick a strong back for then our quickest and most dynamic players forward from there.

only potential change would be to play faye protecting back 4 in place of emre/n’zogbia, but probably a bit negative.

  • 8 Leo* // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:32

PLEASE GOD, IF YOU EVER GIVE US ONE THING, LET FAYE REPLACE BUTT

    because he is sh1te

  • 9 Luke // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:34

    praise to jesus!

  • 10 Ausgeordie // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:36

Totally Leo he sucks massive donkey balls and the team would be better without Carr and Smith too. Give the fans team a shot and drop the bums

  • 11 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:38

I think Carr is goo back-up but Butt and Smith are just too shit for the reserves.

  • 12 Chicken // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:47

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

One cock-up and he’ll be the new Rozenhal.

A fickle bunch are we football fans.

  • 13 steve k // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:49

“sucks massive donkey balls” is the best description of Butt I’ve ever heard. I’ve never bought into the “Butt” revival thing. He puts in the odd stellar tackle but is by and large absolutely pants. Send him off to the ‘mackems or something.

Agree with everyone here, Faye looks the real deal. Not sure whether I’d put him beside Cacapa or Taylor but get him in there.

  • 14 Bill F // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:52

I think you got your sentence just right Tom-Toon goo is an apt term for him. I reckon his feet a covered in it the way he runs, or ambles. I’ve never rated him as a “good” defender and never will.

  • 15 Eric // Feb 15, 2008 at 13:59

Agree with Jamie - Butt should retire. There’s a nice ‘home’ in Whitley Bay is there not? Anyway I thought butt was an American word for arse!
Against Manky U I would have Harper (don’t risk Given); Beye, Cacapa (Taylor), Faye, Enrique, Milner, Emre, NZogbia, Duff, Owen, Martins, with some from Carroll, Ameobi, Lua Lua, Given, Troisi, Edgar etc on the bench. Seats in the Strawberry for Butt, Smith, Viduka, Carr, and any other Sam the Sham has-beens.

  • 16 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:06

Can we just get Nicky Butt to retire but still pay him his wages until the end of his contract as an incentive not to come back.

  • 17 Andy1 // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:10

Faye is a class act - our best centre back by far and does a job in midfield too. He is strongest, best in the air, quickest and most consistent of the defenders and along with Beye was a great signing.

  • 18 Rich // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:20

Against Man Utd i would go with this line up possibly:

    Harper
    Geremi Beye Faye Enrique
    Milner Emre Barton N Zogbia
    Owen Viduka

SUBS: Given, Duff, Martins, Taylor, Smith.

Geremi was good in the African Nations and he can play right back, i say give him a go here and play Beye and Faye at centre backs, addin some height and physical presence there. Think this team is balanced and could do ok against United.

  • 19 toonfan1 // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:21

    nice banner ed!!!

  • 20 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:23

what has changed about the banner?

  • 21 Mitch H // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:24

Carr is finnished. Has been for 3-4 seasons. Granted he’s had a couple of decent games for us after coming back, however, he’s now showing his usual shocking form. He’s just not good enough. He was shot when we bought him from spurs. He’s shocking in the air & the opposition teams know that they can expose us because of this. His positioning & distribution just aint good enough.

We just carnt expect to compete when picking this standard of player.

    Get shot, soon as !!

  • 22 Chicken // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:24

Like the new banner Ed - good work getting rid of that scumbag Barton.

Now if only the rest of the numpties who keep putting him in their teams would follow suit ;)

  • 23 CJ // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:36

Tom Toon you have just said Carr is good back up do you actually watch Newcastle play or is he good on Champ or player manager Carr has prob not had 5 good games in about 4 years for the club Tom Toon talk sense.

  • 24 CJ // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:38

Butt won’t retire for a few more years I think he just signed a new contract extension a few month’s back.

  • 25 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:46

I actually think he is good back-up i.e. doesnt play unless we are wrecked with injuries etc.

    whats champ or player manageR?

  • 26 Tez131 // Feb 15, 2008 at 14:59

@Rich - I was thinking about the option of Beye in CB he has played there for last club.

Geremi’s got a decent cross on him at RB - I just think he is a bit lost in the midfield (DM) and not very good at short smart passes.

What do you gus think is best:

    1, Beye Taylor Faye Enrique
    2, Taylor Beye Faye Enrique
    3, Beye Cacapa Faye Enrique
    4, Geremi Beye Faye Enrique
5, Beye Taylor Cacapa Enrique (Faye in DM)
    6,Beye Taylor Faye N’Zogbia
    7, Other

  • 27 ToonUSA // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:15

    Nice ED

  • 28 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:18

I have to laugh at some of you Nicky Butt was our best central midfielder last season and was excellent at the start of this season Compared to Geremi (2 Decent games for cameroon and the morons compare him to Pele)

Stephen Carr(t horse) on the other hand has done nothing but f***k up since his signing in 2004 and now he is good backup what the hell is wrong with you!

P.S. Without Butt, Milner, Martins, Taylor and Given (All who get ridiculed on this blog by the usual idiots) we would have been relegated last season and by the way some of the “suggested signings” are a joke .
Unrealistic targets who play for champions league clubs. Some of you lot piss me right off!!!
You sit behind your T.V.s and computers and slag off people left, right and centre.
Would you be so negative sitting in the stands if any of you attended matches!!!

  • 29 obafemimartins // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:19

i think are the bad results are down to the music before the match. when it was that song by sham 69 we were winning a lot. we beat west ham, everton, tottenham and when we dont have sham 69 music we lose 4-1 to pompey 3-0 to liverpool and lotsof other bad results. we also had a draw with villa with the sham 69 music

  • 30 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:20

    1 obviously

  • 31 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:35

Last season is last season, if they are shit this season, they are shit, get rid of them.

  • 32 milner fan // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:37

why do you think utd were so open to get Butt out? he was class about 5 seasons ago. But sadly he would only make the bench for a championship game. Ship him out in the summer. Bench him until then or reserves.

  • 33 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:39

Your saying people who ridicule Butt are idiots, ok 95% of this blog are idiots. Bit ignorant arent you.

  • 34 Rich // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:48

Tez- Ye he played Centre back with Marseille. I dont see it as a long term position for him but possibly for the rest of the season id play

    Geremi Beye Faye Enrique.

I think it might tighten us up a bit at the back, cant be any worse!Geremi is obviously on form away from home and as you say i dont like him in CM so think he could do a job here

  • 35 daiv // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:49

Faye is quality and so is Beye. The rest of Sams buys have been rubbish. Butt, Smith and Carr must be transferred to Hartlepool Reserves immediately for two bob. If Keegan insists on playing these morons we are doomed and the Mackems must be paying his wages because he must be picking them to get us relegated.

  • 36 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:50

I am not saying Butt warrants a place in the starting line up i just wish to say that as a season ticket holder of a lot of years Butt over the last couple of years he has played a lot better than you arm chair viewers give him credit for.
Tom toon read my post again prick i said Martins, Milner, Given and Taylor also get unwarranted stick. How you an call me ignorant you make stupid suggestions on players youve seen on the web and take the piss out of good players suggested by Ed on the post last night.
P.S. You suggest we buy Danny Shittu and call me ignorant on football matters.

  • 37 dsr // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:53

surely the answer to that is yes?
anyway, agree with you on peoples transfer targets. its nice to come to this site for a bit of sensible chat, not to hear how great our team will be when its lined up as follows:

    Casillas
    Zanetti/Maldini/Coloccini/Khaladze
    Kennedy Bakircioglu/Superman/Chikhaoui/Figo
    Ronaldinho/God

Seriously guys, get real. Why not put your copy of Football Manager to good use and go find some targets we could actually get?

Ttally disagree with you though Craigg on nicky butt. Yes he was decent last season, but he is still utter garbage this. Its note his fault - hes not picking himself after all, but he really should either learn to pass the ball (rather than shoot) or p*ss off.

Agree with some of the earlier postings - just feel so underwhelmed about our team. Much as they could be t0ssers, I miss the days when we had a team of Dyers, Bellamys, Solanos and Roberts. Just thinking of all that pace and raw energy, and comparing it with the slow, mid-championship standard, sideways passing wasters we now have. My god i feel like crying.

  • 38 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 15:59

Ino what your post read, i picked out nicky butt as he gets the most stick. Danny Shittu is a good stop gap until we can get a high class player.
I can dismiss some of those utterly shite english player suggested yesterday as they are overrated, overpriced, overpaid underachievers.

dsr - you put Chikhaoui, Kennedy and Colccini in with those others. Those 3 who are very realistic, alhough never seen Kennedy suggested.

  • 39 dsr // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:01

oh, and why does it matter if someone is an ‘armchair supporter’? Yes Tom_Toon is a little too obsessed with FM but thats not his fault - its very addictive. Just because you go to the ground more than others doesnt mean their opinions are worth less than yours. There were people in the ground busy abusing Scott Parker out of the club, and the ones chanting at Mido away to Boro last year… I guess I should still bow to their sperior football knowledge and shut my trap because they managed to bag season tickets and I - living in london - cant go to the game?

  • 40 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:02

the funny ting is i dont have fm or have i ever played on it ;)

    dsr sounds like dragoner

    hence: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A31880379

  • 41 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:06

dsr im not saying that we should play or even keep butt my point is that he is still at our club because he has done some good in th past what on earth has carr done in his 3-4 years for tom_toon to describe him as “goo back up” i assume he meant “good back up” nothing my point is that we would have been relegated last season if the 5 mentioned players didnt pull us out of the shit i just think people should appreciate history more than they do.
For example Kilcline, Sheedy, kelly, Peacock who never appeared in the prem for the toon but helped us from being relegated to Div 3 and then promotion the season after deserve just as much credit for where we are as Shearer, Beardsley, Ferdinand, Solano etc.
I also last night wrote a post a Terry Mac last night which no one answered listing what he has helped this club to in the past i must be the only one who just appreciates peoples contribution to my club over the years.

  • 42 thelongshanks // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:09

Butt would be a good player if he cut out all long balls and played the easy one, leave the creativity to emre and more importantly never take a shot at goal. The amount he wastes have me screaming at the tv.

  • 43 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:11

dsr I think you havent read my previous posts from the other day about how i would have liked to have kept scott parker.
I havent anything against people who dont go to the games i just think you get a better view of the whole game in the stadium. Like the defensive work done by milner yet all the posts on here are about his poor crossing ability not the off the ball work he should be commended for

  • 44 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:11

thelongshanks - thats what i think about butt.

  • 45 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:12

Hes a fkin winger, he should be able to cross well. What are wingers forprimarily : Running down the wing and making things happen either getting past players or putting a good ball in the box, he cant do neither.

  • 46 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:15

I could give you a huge list of excellent crosses that our shit strikers this season Smith and Shola especially have wasted and our lack of height and numbers in the box most of his crosses are cut out

  • 47 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:19

Good point but i could give you a bigger list of the crap crosses he’s put in when our strikers were in great positions, not to mention the shite delivery from dead balls.

  • 48 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:20

Thelongshanks: do you not think butt was pushed into trying to be the creative player in the middle due to him playing with the totally inept smith?

  • 49 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:22

Nzogs and Duffs delivery is so much better i suppose tom_toon?

  • 50 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:22

Even when smith isnt playing and emre is on the pitch he still tries it.

Duffs delivery from his repected wing is better than milner, zogs needs work but on average is better than milners. Milners delivery is the worst of our 3 wingers.

  • 51 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:26

Is it only me who cant remember one Damien Duff assist since his signing?

  • 52 thelongshanks // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:31

I think some players have quality wether it be passing, shooting etc.Butts job at man utd was stay back and break play up and when he left that job was given to smith.smith was a great striker and SFA ruined him.H e was told not to do anything stupid, just stop play and pass and thats exactly what he is doing up front for us.He needs to run at players he has/had bags of pace and take a f*$kin shot.

  • 53 UTD111 // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:32

It was only a matter of time before Sir Kev saw the strengths of Faye and Beye.

Credit where credit is Due - thanks Sam for signing them.
    Cheers

  • 54 UTD111 // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:34

The more I look at the quality of the players in your Header picture Ed, the more I wonder why we are even talking about relegation.
I would just love it, just love it if we beat Manure
    :o)

  • 55 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:37

thelongshanks that is my point i personally dont want butt to start i just think his game is a holding mid role stopping the other team but sam playin him with smith had to make him the creative cm some had to take the initiative and try to pass, create and shoot (although granted pretty badly!!!)

  • 56 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:39

that was also my point but trying it when you have more creative players around and putting that much pressure on the defence and possibly conceeding goals makes him rubbish.

He good at breaking down attack but then he gives the ball away so he cancels himself out so its like playing with 10 players.

  • 57 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:43

Tom_toon agreed he should give the easy five yarder to Emre, Barton,Duff, Zoggy, Milner who ever but maybe Kev should tell them to go to him instead of going to space making him try over ambitous 25-30 yard long passes so his break up play wouldnt be wasted

  • 58 e // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:44

f**king hell tom_toon u live on this site

  • 59 ToonTitan // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:48

Lads, the bottom line is that we just aren’t gelling as a team - all our players (well, with the exception of Stephen Carr) have talent in one way or another - it’s down to KK to get the right mix. We need to get away from the Allardyce mentallity of worrying about the opposition and nulifying them, and concentrate on getting them to worry about us. Duffer hasn’t looked very lively since his comeback and needs more match fitness (a run in the stiffs perhaps), Barton is too unreliable as a person, nevermind footballer to have in a team looking to obtain consistency and Smith needs to play where he played best at Leeds - when he was class.

  • 60 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 16:49

UTD 111 we wont be going down we have to add about 5-7 good players and boot out about 7-8 poor ones and we can qualify for the UEFA or InterToto(God was Parker proud posing with the coveted Intertoto plaque at SJP last year brought a tear to my eye just like our legendary Div 1 championship in 93)

    keep believing thats my motto

P.S. That new banner is fkin amazin!!!

  • 61 CJ // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:01

Lads’s where ever we finish this season blame it all on 1 man Alan Oliver he should just change his name to Talk Shit.

  • 62 CJ // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:04

I defo agree great new banner no Barton, Smith and Carr.

  • 63 dsr // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:06

craigg - dont get me wrong i do agree with you, on carr, on terry mac, and on milner. I also find that sometimes my favourite players are the less high profile, people like Batty and Griffin and Ketsbaia, who just plug away for the club and dont cause any drama.

And totally agree re Duff vs Milner. Milner is quality through and through, whereas Duff - despite some recent glimmers of hope hasnt really produced anything.

  • 64 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:08

Faye is a beast and one of our top performers. I quite like Faye in the Def Mid position, maybe paired with Zog or Emre.

Does anyone know if Butt got that contract
extension before Sam got the sack? Please say “No”

My rant: How many times must I hear the same exact comments from a new manager?

“I honestly think we have the best goalkeeping duo in the prem.”

“Shola is not a boy any longer and it really is his time to turn all his potential into goals, or move on.”

“We need a solid CB whos comfortable on the ball and up to the demands of the prem.”

“We are lacking a genuine creative mid player, someone who can unlock defenses.”

    “We need a left back!”

    “…………”

  • 65 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:10

    get it sorted

  • 66 daiv // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:11

Great banner Ed because there is no Butt, Carr, Smith or Barton on it. These players are disliked universally by Newcastle supporters… at least the ones using this blogg. We just haveto hope theKK sees the light.

  • 67 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:12

love the banner but would have probs put viduka on it.

  • 68 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:13

Milner, quality through and through!? LOL

and what quality would that be?

I swear every time he gets the ball I see the same trick(s) (often one to many) followed by a ridiculously poor cross or shot attempt.

Move him to villa or keep as competition for places and bring in some REAL quality

  • 69 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:13

I’ll give you Duff is crap

  • 70 Ian // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:13

Butt is a good player and is top scorer behind the three strikers, his age is getting the better of him, I think unless we sign two amazing players for his position, we should keep him, he shouldnt be used for full games, but he may score, he is definitely focussed on moving towards their goal, Duff runs any which way, usually until he bumps into the corner flag, Emre sails everything over the bar, Barton is only any good with his left hook and should have taken up boxing, so we are struggling a bit in that area.
I still say Smith and Gerami would be best in the middle.

  • 71 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:15

yea nice banner, just remove the text, we know who the players are!

  • 72 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:16

Smith and Geremi in the middle ahahah that is the worst joke ive heard. Smih should even be in our reserves, hes crap everywhere.

  • 73 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:16

Ian (aka Fat Sam) what games have you been watching?????

    Butt might score??

    Smith and Geremi in Middle???

  • 74 Kash2 // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:26

Right here is the truth. Butt is past it, yes he started well, but he’s given the ball away more times than Viduka, Milner and Barton put together. The equates to alot of possession conceded.

Milner is a one trick pony, he can’t pass and he can’t cross which is useless considering he’s a winger. But he can get better, so we could keep him in the squad!

Duff is past it, and he’s lost his pace due to injuries. He wasn’t great for Chelsea either, so he’s a has been like Butt.

Our defence is SHIT except Beye and maybe Taylor if he wasn’t such a fanny at times.

And we have far too many players who need to prove themselves more consistently. Enrique and N’Zogbia are the 2 who I think, could have a big future, if they would just stop being foreign miserable pussies! Most likely they will move on.

Whoever said we should sign Shittu, well you may have a point as he’s shit and we’re not gonna sign anyone better.

If we do make some expansive signings, then they will be of the form of players such as Bentley, Carrick, Sol, Bridge, Shorey………basically British players who know fo KK and know the potential of our club…….IF AND ONLY IF, we managed to sign some half decent players!!!!

We will hoever sign youngsters, who just wanna play football. I think this Kalouda kid sounds interesting.

WE SHOULD SIGN AIDEN MCGEADY, I think he’s a good player who will only get better!

  • 75 UTD111 // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:26

@Daiv - Smithy is not “disliked universally” by United fans. I for one am pleased we have him in our squad.
He’s also got support in Ed’s poll above (and no it wasn’t me :o))
    Cheers

  • 76 Kash2 // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:28

What a rant eh boys, but mainly girls (Tom_Toon)!

  • 77 Kash2 // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:29

To be fair to Smudge, he rarely gives away possession and holds the ball up well. He’s just not a threat ion front of goal.

  • 78 CJ // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:29

Dsr - Agree Batty was quality in dm we have been playing most of the season with 2 defensive minded cm’s and still conceding loads of goals we could have done with a Batty we certainly wouldn’t be conceding so many goals.

  • 79 Geordie Joe // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:38

We need a rob lee. we need a midfielder who will burst forward at any chance.

  • 80 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:41

    Smith is shit:

When hes in midfield: Cant pass, makes silly tackle that leads to cards and free kick that can result in goal, he only passes backwards.

When hes upfront: He can hold onto a ball but he doesnt know how to release it, he cant score, he cant pass.

  • 81 Leo* // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:41

loving the new banner, its alot better than the old one

  • 82 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:44

My revised Squad for next season Excluding youngsters:
    Given/Harper

    Beye/Hughes Taylor/Cacapa Faye/Ramage Bridge/Enrique

    Carrick/Butt
    Arshavin/Milner N’Zogbia/Duff
    Emre/Barton

    Owen/Martins Ashton/Carroll

I will explain the team i have put Aaron Hughes as back up right back (Supposing Fulham go down) as i think he was quality all across the back four and i couldnt understand why he was sold.

I have added Arshavin on the right wing but again could cover all mid or even up front

Carrick in the holding role a totally different (and much better) DM to Butt

Ashton up top to add height and strength rotated with Carroll alogside Owen or Martins

I have put the first choice players first and the back up second

I dont want Barton in my club either but i cant see us getting any money back as hell probably a jail bird by next season and he has undoubted talent that we havent seen other than the occational flash.

I dont think adding 9-10 players in the summer would work or gel thats why i added 5 and the jan window or summer later add more to replace oldies or replacable players.

    Please give me your Comments

  • 83 Kash2 // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:44

@Leo - cheers for the directions to the site earlier. It wasn’t what I was looking for unfortunately. I saw a pair of football boots where you could change the studs from soft ground to hard ground if you had the thing for it at the bottom. Don’t know what make they are and can’t find them!

  • 84 daiv // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:49

    Utd111
Smith is disliked by 95% of this blogg. All those who think Smith is a good player please write in for Utd111. That does not include you Tom Toon. Smith is so bad I cannot believe how anybody thinks he is worthy of his place. he rarely gives the ball away because he rarely gets it and when he does he lays it back 3 yards to defender. he plays backwards… when he is not fouling. A disgrace to the club.

  • 85 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:50

    Ill do a revised squad:

    Given/Harper

    Def: Beye/Carr Luisao/Capaca Faye/Taylor Enrique/Maxwell

    Mid: Bentley/Milner Song/Barton Emre/Kahlenberg Zog/Duff

    Att: Owen/Martins Cardozo/Viduka

With Geremi and youngsters being squad players.

Smith, Butt, Ramage, Rozehnal and Ameobi all out.

  • 86 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:51

Sign Altidore (MLS), the boy has real quality and an immense physique. He’s be cheap swell

  • 87 Kash2 // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:53

“immense physique” - do you have his topless poster on your wall?

  • 88 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:56

Real Madrid want Altidore and he hasnt really proven anything yet, still a ‘talent’ with ‘potential’. We need proven players at the moment.

  • 89 Ed Harrison // Feb 15, 2008 at 17:58

Craigg - you’ve got to remember a lot of the people on this site are far away from NBewcastle and cannot attend the matches personally.
The best we can do is watch TV - but that’s better than nothing - which is what we had 10 years ago. :D

  • 90 UTD111 // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:00

Daiv - your comments are way over the top about Smithy in my humble opinion. But you’re entitled to your views - I just don’t agree with them on this occasion. LOL
By the way re your 95% - did you know that 78.9% of statistics are made up on the spot :o)

  • 91 e // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:02

bleddy hell tom_toon u live on this site

  • 92 Kash2 // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:03

@UTD11 - I hope the stats I work with aren’t made up on the spot as I could be pissing my companies profit away!!!!

  • 93 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:03

Sorry guys ill hang my head in shame

ED I did say on an earlier post that i dont have nowt against fans who dont attend matches i just sometimes think you notice a lot more about players work rate and off the ball ability when you watch live because the T.V. cameras follow the ball where as i can see the movement and defensive work done by players getting behind the ball tracking players runs etc. (I do also try to keep track of the ball at matches as well!!!)

  • 94 Kash2 // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:03

@Ed - did you work for IBM in newcastle?

  • 95 UTD111 // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:04

    LOL @ Kash2

  • 96 daiv // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:06

    Utd111
Disgrace… was over the top because he does try. I apologise to Smudger for that. I just think he is a very poor player. Never buy a player from the top 4 because they are either young and finished because of injury or just too old . Smith and Duff (finished) and Butt (too old). Left his legs at manure wher he ran his socks off. We’ve got the leftovers.

  • 97 UTD111 // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:08

I agree Craigg. This is my point about Smithy. He works his socks off all over the pitch but the armchair fans dont see that (and lots of other things going on).
Have to say though - I know our team plays in black and white - but too may of the comments in here are also either black or white - a player is either accepted or “sh1te” - no in between.
Players aren’t like that. A good example for the Smith critics - he was superb leading the line when we beat Everton.
Anyway me tea’s ready - bye for now folks!

  • 98 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:09

  • 102 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:17

New contract = Higher his asking price and he will want higher wages.

  • 103 Leo* // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:19

i hope not if thats the case.

  • 104 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:28

“Work rate, work rate. He has no quality, hes rubbish.”

Tom_Toon Why say that UTD111 is entitled to his opinion on Smith just as you are entitled to your opinion on Shittu

  • 105 Geordie Joe // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:34

I do agree with tom toon with that. It doesn’t matter how hard a player works if he isn’t good enough. I mean I would give 200% for the toon by im not good enough. We need quality.

  • 106 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:40

Id rather have Shittu upfront or in midfield than smith :)

  • 107 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 18:47

Tom_Toon I hope you realise that my brain is like a sponge every time you insult one of my player views or transfer suggestions you will get the SHITTU TREATMENT!!!

  • 108 James Oliver // Feb 15, 2008 at 19:01

Have nobody noticed that Geremi was voted best right back of the ANC? He was in the all star team. He scored a great goal from a free kick.

I agree with Rich or maybe I would swap Duff for Milner.

  • 109 CJ // Feb 15, 2008 at 19:02

Tom Toon- You said Altidore is an unproven player and we need proven player’s what about the lists of player’s you come on here there always unproven player’s and Danny Shittu.

  • 110 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 19:12

MLS v A European league where most of the players i name play either champions league or uefa cup or either have a fair few caps for their country, thats more proven than a young american who doesnt have a great record in the mls of scoring and only played a few games for his country.

  • 111 CRAIGG // Feb 15, 2008 at 19:20

I didnt know shittu played in the champions league

  • 112 Tom_Toon // Feb 15, 2008 at 19:22

  • 116 Midd The Yid // Feb 15, 2008 at 19:57

    Weh hey.

How did you get on at the weekend.

  • 117 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 20:23

Kash2 - Yea exactly, I think the guy looks great in a speedo, Muppet.

All I’m sayin is we have room for unproven talent. I’d sure as fook swap Strolla for Altidore and while Real may have him on their radar he came extremely close to signing for Reading the other week only for it to collapse at the end.

True we need proven players STAT but let’s not forget our longterm strategy (”what long term strategy?” I heard that)

  • 118 Mighty Mouse // Feb 15, 2008 at 20:41

Would just like to say that I really enjoyed the Chronicle’s interview of Bobby Robson. What an absolute legend. A fantastic ambassador for the Toon. FFS should still be jailed for his treatment of Sir Bob

  • 119 wags // Feb 15, 2008 at 21:39

you have to be kidding about duff being better then milner the only goal last week came from a milner cross and he was the only one working hard all game duff just labored around had a few moments butt realy did nothing as for the arm chair some of us have no choise when u live in australia the only way well ever get to see a game is it comes hear in the 39th game and that will never happen.on the playing young players didnt most of the chapms that newcastle have one come on the back ok younger players the prob with the older so called top class players is that the team thay ahave come from have got the best out of them if your paying nothing for them like we do means the club there coming from dont rate them any more and just want to get ridd of them all top teams prob have an avrage age of 25 whats newcastles 28 to 30 once apone atime this was prob best time to have them just at there peek but i think thats not the case in the prem any more it abit like afl in australia the games got to fast for those players and the younger 20 to 27 are just dominating gorn are the days of playing hard working older players because the younger faster players just were them down and by the end of the game are over running them

  • 120 nightfall // Feb 15, 2008 at 22:00

    great banner Ed!!!

  • 121 nightfall // Feb 15, 2008 at 22:12

oh and i think miler is probably the best player we have..the guy never complains, is always positive about our club, always gives his best, runs more than any other player,…he’s true professional who’s also a fan…what else do you want from a player? i’m sure if he’d play with better players he’d be one of the best in the league, ‘cos he’s skillful and his vision is good!

  • 122 Dragoner // Feb 15, 2008 at 22:55

tom toon i am not bein funny mate but do you seriously expect people to believe you haven’t heard of champ manager, player manager, football manager etc? You are a teenage boy who likes football so there is no way you wouldnt have heard of these games. Also, if you are on this blog then surely if someone accused you of playing these games you would just search them on google or something, you wouldnt ask the person who said it “what iis champ managers?”.

  • 123 YongMalaysia // Feb 15, 2008 at 23:57

Great work Ed, it was so nice, i like this banner so much :) wish it will bring some luck to us too…

  • 124 Hammy // Feb 16, 2008 at 0:06

Nice Banner Ed, Has Shay got something stuck up his arse?

Just had a quick look through this post, Tom-Toon and Craigg near fallout caught the eye, I’ll sit on the fence on this one as I don’t think Butt is our worst Midfielder (Smith) at least Butt has the excuse that he is geting on a bit.

Back to topic, hope Faye is in the team for the rest of the season, top class unspectacular pro who never let’s you down, question is where do you play him?

  • 125 Davegnufc // Feb 16, 2008 at 1:49

Is it just me or does anyone out there see that Taylor is at best average, He seems to fly under the radar as far as criticism but his pasing is at best dreadful, his positional play is average and he seems always to escape the wrath of the fans even though he refuses to tie himself to the club, I think we’d be better off getting another player to partner Faye than worry about Taylor he’s a joke. Also it’s time for a new Keeper Given is past his best by 3 yrs even though he’s done well for the club I think it’d\s time for a change.I hope we have a good clear out in the summer as there is too many without the heart or skill for this club.

  • 126 Scottyt // Feb 16, 2008 at 1:52

sorry but imo shittu is as u can say ‘as it says on the tin’ lol watched him when we played watford last season at st james and vicarage and hes just a massive wall that very rarely does anything other than boot the ball upfield .. a quick striker would cause him problems also he woudlnt fit into keegan style play and id defo not want him in our team

  • 127 GP // Feb 16, 2008 at 2:33

Davegnufc - So average he captains the u21’s and is reportedly wanted by Liverpool and Chelsea. He’s by no means the finished article, but I do see a great centre back in him.

  • 128 marcus owen // Feb 16, 2008 at 10:04

Did KK explain why he dropped Faye for the villa game? I thought we derserve to know why. I hope he is not going to tell us that he wanted to keep his fate on players like Smith, Butt and Carr.

  • 129 marcus owen // Feb 16, 2008 at 10:20

    Davegnufc,
I personally don’t agree your point of view about Taylor and Given.
