Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has said today he may use striker at some stage in the Manchester United game on Saturday, and that is why he didn’t play for three Reserves against Liverpool on Monday night.

Andrew Carroll - give the youngster a start on Saturday
With both Viduka and Smith hardly impressive right now, we’d like to see Carroll start the game. But somehow we don’t think Keegan will go that far, but it’s obvious that Kevin has taken a liking to the 6′3′ powerful striker, born and bred in Gateshead.
Andrew is hardly fazed by playing against top players, as he showed in our pre-season friendly against Juventus, where he looked great, and scored a well taken goal against Italian International goalkeeper Buffon, who after the game admitted how impressed he was with the then 18 year old striker.
Keegan told the Evening Chronicle today:
“Andy didn’t play on Monday because I’ve got him in the first-team squad and we didn’t want him to get injured.”
“He’s done very well – I like him.”
“He gives us something different to what we’ve got in the forward department.” “And that’s why he’s involved.”
We think Newcastle could do a lot worse than pair Carroll with Newcastle captain Michael Owen. Owen looks a better player completely since Kevin came in, and you have to think he’s full of confidence at the moment. He’s scored some typical Michael Owen opportunist goals lately.
Reserve team coach Adam Sadler also talked about Andy, one of the many young potential stars under the guidance of Adam:
“Andy has got four goals in four games since returning from Preston on loan and has been pushing for a first-team chance.”
“It would be great if he can do that at some stage.”
Alan Smith has looked a second rate player these last few games, and since the Derby County game just before Christmas, when Mark scored two goals and looked great, but he hasn’t turned up in games since.
This would be a good message to our senior players too, that the youngsters will be given their chance – if they are good enough.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

A lot like supermac a left foot to die for, strong fast, big, great header of the ball loves the club tynesider born and bread a future number 9 and will end his career with an F.A. Cup medal haul better than Milburns in the 50’s
Play him from the start if martins isnt fit cant do worse than Viduka, Smith or Ameobi

Give the lad a go. He has been playing well lately and can do no worse that what we have got at the moment. A different option to Smith & Viduka

How many goals did he get on loan at Preston?

Viduka should be given a chance now that hes fit, oki, not injured then… But Caroll must be given a lot of chances in the near future. Hes only 19 and much better then Smith and Ameobi!

Whether Saturday would be too much for Carroll is the question. However you are right when you say that Smith or Viduka are hardly gonna bother them, so perhaps it is worth a go.
What i do think is a definite - we should blood some of the younger reserve team players like Tozer, Kadar and possibly Baheng or Godsmark. They would definitely give it a go at least….

Viduka hasn’t even been on the pitch to be unimpressive! It’s his turn, not Carroll’s…

How to secure a point on Saturday
1. From kick-off hoof the ball into the crowd
2. The crowd retains the ball . A replacement ball is found and brought into play
3 Repeat every time Newcastle get possession (can hoof the ball into the Leazes or Gallowgate ends if required to make it look like we are trying to score)
4 Repeat until Man U get sick -hopefully they will get sick before us - or until there are no match balls left
5 Play Andy Carroll in case a lucky deflection propels the ball into the Man U penalty area and enables him to grab us an undeserved 3 points

Well he def gives us something different to Smith simply by the fact he can play a bit - If Keegan continues to play Smith then I lose all hope for us staying in prem this season

I would play him as CF from the start. There is nothing to lose with that one. He’s good enough and it will make things so much better for Owen, to have someone to play off.

Put the Duke in there.

Owen hasn’t been getting good service from the midfield (with the exception of a few good balls in from Milner and Zog) or the man next to him for the majority of the season. Must be worth a try. Go on Carroll, you can do it son!!!

agree with steve surely viduka has got to be put in ahead of carroll and smith. he has shown he can score and perform brilliantly when he fancies it and keegan has got to try and get them sort of performances out of him. hes a proven goalscorer as well just needs more chances in the 1st team.
but yh i agree id definetly bring young carroll on at some stage of the game though but only if viduka isnt performing.

i prefer Viduka to start… & then when we’re lucky to lead with a goal somehow, we can start hoofing the ball out like Spitfire wrote & or to Carroll to score his dream goal. really sick to watch & really an undeserved 3 points …BTW a W is a W no matter how. Surprise surprise.

If Martins ain’t fit, stick him on the bench ’til Viduka gets tired!..
…It prob. ain’t gonna happen but:

Owen-Viduka(if Martins crocked)
…& stick with it, we need continuety!..For crying out loud!..

18 Ant // Feb 20, 2008 at 22:05
I’m all for the Duke if Oba’s still dying
19 Simen // Feb 20, 2008 at 22:08

not to mention the fact that big andy rounded buffon and he had to illegally take him out because he was all over him like margerine on bread
21 AdamCF // Feb 21, 2008 at 8:27
I don’t mind the idea of Carroll starting. I think Viduka should probably start, but hey, at least KK will be trying new things!
22 Tom from Aus // Feb 21, 2008 at 9:30
NO, we do not want to play mark viduka. He is slow, cant score from outside the box, holds the ball up instead of having a decent shot.
He was pointless in the world cup he’d be a bad choice for KK.
Give andy ago
