Newcastle Chairman Chris Mort has been speaking to the Newcastle Journal today and says that manager Kevin Keegan has a made a positive influence at all levels of the club.

Chris Mort - Newcastle’s young chairman
Chris told the Journal today:
“We absolutely appreciate the impact Kevin has made,†“It is clear that Kevin has had an immediate and very positive impact.â€â€œThe feedback from the players and back-room staff has all been very positive. Although the players are working harder in training, they are enjoying it more.â€
“Of course, we appreciate it will take time for Kevin to turn things around. He has a three-and-a-half year contract and we are looking to see what can be achieved over that period.â€
“He has already got the team playing more football and I am comfortable that the results will follow once we get that first win.”
“We also appreciate that we could have seen out this season and brought Kevin to the club in the summer, but that would have meant another transition season next season and we wanted to avoid that.â€
Good to see that the players are working harder in training.
Chris has now been in the job as Newcastle Chairman about 8 months, and is no doubt much more aware of what needs to be done since he first arrived at the club. His executive changes to bring in the Recruitment team we think is an excellent move ,and the recruitment of some top youngsters in January is one of the few bright spots in a season we will all want to forget.
Chris Mort is also convinced Newcastle United will be well positioned in the transfer market in the summer and continued:
“The club will be better prepared as we have a manager and scouting team with several months to consider both where we need strengthening and who we might bring in, whereas last summer we had a new manager and new senior scouting staff joining in the summer that had not worked at the club previously.”
Of course the results are not there yet, so if we can start playing good football and picking up points then things will look a lot better towards the end of the season. The summer transfer season promises to be one of the best ever, as Kevin tries to add some class and skill to the squad.
Roll on Manchester United tomorrow - a very good performance from the lads is what we are looking for.
Comments very welcome.

Maybe it will be a bit opposite this time. A lot of clubs tend to have a short period of success right after a new manager is appointed. We haven’t had that, so lets hope it will come gradually
Don’t forget that we’ve just had a big turnaround of the hole club…
Lets finish this season in a secure place, and bring on the next one

I really do hope KK can have a positive influence. Why was Fat Sam the Sham’s “Wham, Bam, Thank You Mam” style of football so impotent? It was because we had nobody up the front who could hold up a ball for somebody else to score! And to think that once upon a time Newcastle United were called the Cock of the North. I hope KK will stop us firing blanks because Manky Utd are due for s stuffing on Saturday. My Team? Given/Harper; Beye; Taylor; Faye; Enrique; Geremi; Emre; NZogbia; Duff; Owen; Carroll. On the bench? Cacapa, Edgar; Milner; some others. In the pub watching? Smith; Viduka; Butt; Barton;

I still feel that Mort and Ashley have shown naevity bringing Keegan to the club. When you see how even Ireland managed to hire Trappatoni you realise there are managers like Ramos out there to be recruited.
Would be delighted to see things work out with Kev but we have to be realistic. We now have a board that have shown themselves to be less than shrewd in the football world. I hope they learn fast.
Mort and Ashley are starting to look all hat and no beef.
4 steve k // Feb 22, 2008 at 11:07
Also, have to disagree of the Viduka bashing here. The guy has had his injury problems but has been excellent when fit and in the side. He’s scored some cracking goals, not enough of them but there you go.
5 Stamford Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 11:15
I am not sure Mort knows what he is talking about when he says ‘we are playing more football’. We have been totally outplayed under KK who has never managed to get as many shots on goal as did BS, who never conceeded so amny goals either. I still don’t think KK is the answer but I say again, I hope I am wrong. Mort admits the team is now stronger, so BS must have done something right in the transfer market. He syays the players are enjoying training more but then they have to say that, they said the liked BS and now they like KK. If they said otherwise they would be out of a job.
6 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 11:28
What is it about ramos.
look at his record pre-sevilla it is a joke he is totally over rated you say we could have got someone like him in front of keegan who club record is flawless.
He was kicked out of betis after 5 games (1draw & 4defeats) he left or was sacked from 8 out of 11 clubs and only had success with sevilla’s money and talented players and now with spurs £200m squad the guy is an overrated joke
P.S. My team for the mancs:
Given
Beye Taylor Faye Enrique
Milner Barton Emre N’Zogbia
Owen Carroll (If Obas Injured)
Subs: Harper, Edgar, Lua Lua, Duff, Viduka
7 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 11:30
“KK who has never managed to get as many shots on goal as did BS”
last time i checked its the players who are on the pitch and they arent good enough
8 Rich // Feb 22, 2008 at 11:42
CRAIGG - I agree about Ramos and i really dont like the idea of a guy who cant speak english managing newcastle, sorry there are some great foreign coaches but in my opinion you need to speak a decent level of English. Keegan is the man for us in thgis moment and time to get us surging back next year, mark my words he will get us back to Europe! Give him his three years and we will be in a good situation for someone to take us to the next stage!
9 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:02
Rich cheers mate its nice that im not the only one!
I just dont know why people keep dragging up the England job and Man city job as failiures for King Kev These are the real facts:
Man City Division 1 title 01-02
record points tally 99 and record goals tally 108
9th in league first season back in top flight & UEFA cup qualification.
England at least qualified for Euro 2000 after poor start to qualifying under Glenn Hoddle, which is better than Don Revie and Steve McClaren who never qualified for a major tournament during their times as England manager.
Those are Keegans only apparent failiures in his amazing career.
Compared to wank day ramos whos failed everwhere other than Sevilla and Sperms and had a shitty playing career not even worth mentioning (Other words complete twat)
10 Paul P // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:08
how can anyone judge kk yet. he has barely been in the job a month. will people realise that things will not happen over night. yes we need to win the games to stay up, and we will get the points we need, but until the summer, no one can start to judge that man. this team he inhertited is shit. mort says its a strong squad. obviously he knows nowt about football. its the worst in the premiership like i stated yesterday. Once kk brings his own players in, we can start to judge around xmas time about the progress we are making.
11 Southside Jordy // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:21
I believe that we can win this one lads, but as long as we show some sort of fight and work rate then that’ll do me…………oh and that we don’t lose 6-0!!
12 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:36
Southside Jordy i agree.
i honestly believe we will win ive got some weird emotions about footy matches and i think this will be like bobbys first match against that lot we were mid table going no where and we smashed them 3-0
i dont think we will win by 3 but i would say 2-1 to the toon!!!!!!
13 Paul P // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:42
we are 13/2 to beat man u 2mora.
14 Ausgeordie // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:51
You know what I dont think we are going to win I dont even think we are going to get points. Realistically. What I’d like to see is us playing some good football. Sharp fast passing, players moving into space, some nice first touches and above all a fearless approach to the game.
That’s why a couple of young fellas should be used. Carroll should start or at least come on at half time and I think Edgar should get a shot at some time too.
………Harper
Beye……Taylor…….Enrique
……..Geremi….Faye…….
Milner….Emre…..Zogbia
…….Owen…….Viduka
Subs - Carroll, Edgar, Butt, Duff, Forster
Martins is out cause of injury. If Enrique is still MIA Zog should go back and Duff should replace him. If this is the case I’d have Barton on the bench too.
I guess I’d also like to see a bit of tactics like double teaming certain players and intelligent use of subs. How many times have we seen both the wrong player come off and the wrong players go on. And here’s praying Smith does not get a game as he truly sucks
15 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 13:32
Craigg you dont look at the whole picture. his record means nothing if he hasnt watched a proper football match for years, he hasnt managed for years, and what has he won? i can name what ramos has won. Also, it is clear to see that Ramos is superior to keegan, most managers are. I wanted deschamps but the prop english bullshit newcastle united constantly go for ruined it again.
16 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:07
Dragoner i look at it this way kevin keegan is the reason why people like you support this club
I sat through the pathetic Ardiles
(foreign managerial genius) days watch him attempt to destroy my club and see him his side produce some of the shittest and most spineless football ever witnessed on Tyneside.
Enter Kevin Keegan lived in spain for 7 years with out watching a match loved by the public changed the mood and optimism of the club kept us up, Won the Div 1 title (Silverware) the season after, Finished 3rd in the prem at the first time of asking and qualified for europe for the first time in 23 years, and then 2 years later challenge in consecutive years for the premiership title finishing runners up in consecutive years (Inheriting glory hunters along the way) Also Div 1 title (Silverware) with Man city and Div 2 title with fulham(Silverware) and got England to Euro 200 which we havent done this year.
Kevin Keegan will never be diminished in my eyes and his contribution to my club should never be questioned by people like you.
And this bollocks about foreigners doesnt wash with me as ive watched Ardiles, Dalglish, Gullit, and Souness f**k up everything weve had over the last 20 years apart from occasional highs under King Kev, Sir Bobby and Glenn Roeder (All english and passionate about NUFC).
Ramos is over rated and Keegan is the better manager, as Kev has got more out of lesser players where as Ramos has only had success with a hugely talented group at Sevilla and now a massively expensive group of players at spurs and you cant deny it.
17 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:15
Also Deshamps has won less than Keegan as a manager so that pisses on your argument
Deschamps
1x Serie B title
1x Runner up in champions league
Keegan
2x Division 1 titles
1x Division 2 title
2x Runner up in the Premiership
18 Leo* // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:26
does anyone know how this song goes
e aye e aye e aye oh, up the premierleague we go….
i cant work out what comes next, i try to listen but its no use, please someone enlighten me so i can join in!
19 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:26
when did keegan win those craigg? also, deschamps is a relatively new manager and i will bet you now that he has a much more glamorous managerial career than keegan. but yet agian we missed out on it because people like you want kevin keegan back. dont worry, you keep thinking he is the man to get us places whilst every other team laughs at us. joke
anyway, who the f***k cares about division 1 and two titles, by the way runner up is NOT WINNING ANYTHING
20 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:28
craigg do yourself a favour and do not mention keegan and england in the same sentence, he was one of the worst england managers ever, your deluded.
21 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:29
also, who cares about div 1 and 2 silverware. IS that what you want newcastle to be aiming for?
by the way, runner up does not count for winning anything mate.
face it, keegans record is rubbish and you know it
22 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:30
also, we will see who will be more respected in management in about 5 or so years, then lets see if you still prefer keegan to deschamps
23 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 14:33
deschamps got MONACO to a final just a few years back, Keegan was runner up f***ing AGES ago, get over it. Times have changed, premier league is much harder now
24 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 16:08
No Div 1 or 2 titles aint what i’m aiming for but you said he’d won nothing and he’s won more than your beloved Deschamps
If runner up does not count for winning what is Deschamps greatest managerial achievment it wouldnt be taking monaco to a flukey one off champions league final which they lost and were runners up would it!! or his Serie B title which we shouldnt be aiming for!! come back when you get some footy knowledge mate.
I will always prefer Keegan in 5, 10,20 or 50 years, as i said earlier he saved this football club from bakruptcy and closure, He established us in the premiership he gave me some of the greatest memories of my life, and doesnt deserve to be insulted by gloryhunters like you.
You wouldnt even have a premiership club to take the piss out of if it wasnt for Kevin Keegan.
Ive wasted a week off work sitting on this blog sticking up for one the greatest men ever to be associated with Newcastle United by idiots like you who claim to support the toon.
25 Mitch H // Feb 22, 2008 at 16:15
You might get away with slagging KK off online dragoner, but you wouldnt slag him off in newcastle, thats for sure.
Go & find yourself another club to support, coz we really dont need big mouthed mugs like you!
Ho’way the Lads !!
26 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 16:19
Mitch H I agree with everything you said about that tit apart from “another club to support ”
Because any supporter of nufc wouldnt have such a low opinion of Kevin Keegan and his contribution to this club
27 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 16:28
Dragoner you tie yourself up in knots son
“runner up does not count for winning anything mate”
“deschamps got MONACO to a final just a few years back”
Does that not make him a runner up ?????
28 Mitch H // Feb 22, 2008 at 16:36
Dragoner, go & read what Keegan has just said about NUFC doing all they can to help Gazza.
Now thats exactly why we love the man so much. He has a big heart, he loves this club to bits & he’s full of compassion for others. Especially those with connections to our club. That says it all for me really.
Long Live King Kev !!
29 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 16:37
Im supporting KK but hes not mean and ruthless enough, at least big sam had the balls to drop people (although it was the wrong people)
30 Mitch H // Feb 22, 2008 at 16:55
I’m glad you responded Tom_Toon, coz your another one like dragoner, that talks a load of nonsence or a regular basis. Just like dragoner, i suggest you jog on, & find another club to support. Or, just play more football manager, coz you know nothing about real football.
I’ve read many of your posts over the last few months, & frankly, you are a sad, deluded little man. Mouthing off online, slagging the club, & KK all the time.
We dont need mugs like you. Your certainly not a Geordie, that’s plain for all to see. Geordies dont bitch on the way you do. They support there team, through hell & high water. Now jog on you muppet.
Ho’way the Lads !!
31 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:04
How can anyone who calls themself a geordie have such a downer on Kev its bizarre
32 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:05
Wow, then you would have noticed i barely ever ’slag’ off our club and KK ‘all the time’ (except from when it was the big sam era), neither do i play football manager.
I think you are the one alking nonsence, when someone has opposing views to people who think they are in the right you would suggest such a thing as to stop supporting OUR club becuase the chances are we have been supporting the toon for most if not all our lives.
How am i deluded becuase apparently i do those things, but that does not in anyway make me deluded, i think you are deluded thinking KK is the answer.
MUG.
33 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:11
“you know nothing about real football” lol
and i suppose that must go for every other fan that supports every other club seeing as it is only newcastle united fans (some, not all) who believe kevin keegan to be a smart managerial appointment. Everyone else is laughing. Jesus Christ, Jenas did get it right after all, some of you DO live in your own little worlds completely oblivious to simple logic. Its laughable.
Also, i will discuss kevin keegans flaws with who ever, when ever.
Anyway i will not be “jogging on” anytime soon so get used to hearing what the REAL world thinks.
34 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:12
To be fair to Tom_Toon he just makes some unusual player suggestions
he’s not as bad as dragoner who i dont think he has a positive bone in his body
The real world what like arsenal foreign board, foreign manager and coaching staff, 11 foreign players is that really the way english football should be. 11 foreigners running around an english stadium in the english league if so then i’ll go and support spennymoor. At least this club has dignity ran by english represented by english supported by english because its an english club and that isn’t laughable its applaudable
35 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:13

Ive been on this a lot recently because ive had a week off work.
your an idiot and people dont take your comments seriously because your lack of football knowledge is embarrassing
38 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:22
do seriously think NUFC will single handedly fly the English flag in the premiership, whilst every other team changes with the times and sign top talent from around the world, both management and players? NO, all that will happenb is we will continue to fall behind and will eventually get relegated
39 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:23

lack of football knowledge? what is this based on?
41 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:25
your more stupid than i expected if you believe i am the only NUFC fan who is not convinced by KK second coming, as i said earlier, completely oblivious you are
42 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:28
also, i could go through these blogs and prove i am not on here as much as you say, but i really cannot be bothered to waste my energy
43 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:28
The facts like saying runners up means not winning
And then say deschamps took monaco to a final
which they lost and that means they were runners up
Then you say Div 1 and 2 titles arent important
Yet Deschamps only trophy as a manager is a serie B title
44 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:28
Im just annoyed because when Fat Sham got sacked i was hoping for big continental coach.
45 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:30
deschamps is lke 39 he’ll be a top coach soon and those achievements show great potential, no matter if he lost.
46 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:30
Youre the only apparent “Nufc fan” who seems to take pleasure in our downfall and insults the city and its people
47 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:33
i said getting to a final is not winning something, and i stand by that statement. The only reason i mentioned the monaco final was to highlight the fact that he was runner up about four years ago, compared to what kk did over a decade ago! football is not the same, so you lack the knowledge if you believe keegan will perform similarly now to how he did then. get a grip
48 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:33
Ok Tom_toon do you agree with Dragoner that KK hasnt achieved anything then despite his
2x Division 1 Titles
1x Division 2 Titles
2x Runner up in the Premiership
49 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:35
what did i say about the city? i said SOME fans are deluded, and i stand by that statement also
50 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:35
I dont think we will do as well again but i think we will be back in europe in the next 3 years and he will always have my full support and also the full support of all real toon fans who have memories
51 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:36
He acheived attacking football but that was then, this is now and we could hvae done better, as much as you dont like to hear it. But with a logical hat on you can see that KK wont take us to where we want to(break top 4). Im supporting him but i cant help feel its an opportuninty missed to get a top top manager.
52 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:36
i also NEVER said he hadn’t achieved anything, i said what he has achieved is nothing great.
getting us runner up is his only top flight achievement, and its still not winning anything
53 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:37
You brought up Jenas’ Comments when he had a dig at the city and its supporters
54 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:39
that was said out of anger, and i also only agreed with what he said about supporters, as i feel some supporters are deluded
55 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:40
also, when you say europe, do you mean uefa cup or champions league
56 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:42
I mean UEFA cup or Intertoto gradual progression as long as we stabilise and rid out the bad and add to the good we will soon be back playing in europe
57 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:46
even glenn roeder got us into europe when it seemed like we were not going to make it, does that make him a great manager too?
Uefa in 3 years will not make KK a top manager, i am sure there a number of managers that could achieve that in 3 years
58 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 17:57
Oh dragoner you are a twat what the hell makes Deschamps a great manager either nothing
We might go down this year or has that escaped your attention
Next year we will hopefully with luck we’ll finish 6th-8th hence UEFA Cup or Intertoto
KK will have another 2 years after we will see about getting back into the Champions league and that will be Kevs 3 1/2 year contract up.
His time here this time round is about stabilising the club after we have had 5 managers in 4 years
Most of us real NUFC fans think it would be great if we could win something under KK as it would be the right way to honour his assiciation and contribution to the club
I think to turn around in fortunes in his first time here makes him a top, extraordinary manager
like i said before i’ll bet it was his hard work and the clubs forward strides that we made under him that convinced you to support newcastle or was it under bobby when you decided to support us because i’ll bet it wasnt when Ardiles, Souness or Gullit were over us
59 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:00
difference is, deschamps is young, and is EXPECTED to be a great manager in the future
And even if it was not deschamps, im sure there were other continental managers
60 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:08
Craigg there is normally some sensible banter from you but at this point I cant believe your delusion - ‘We might go down this year or has that escaped your attention
Next year we will hopefully with luck we’ll finish 6th-8th hence UEFA Cup or Intertoto’ - You think a team flirting with relegation one season, the next season they will get into europe, jaysus.
61 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:11
Expected by who you?
If they speak broken english they must be Great
weve had our fingers burnt with ardiles and gullit and they nearly ruined our club if it wasnt for KK and Bobby (both english) we would probably be out of business now
but its alright because there are plenty of other clubs for you to attach yourself too if or when that happens
62 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:14
Craigg quite frankly debating with someone as deluded as you is just pointless.
how about this, lets see who is the more respected manager in 5 or so years
63 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:15
Tom_Toon i think i depends on who we bring in i dont think this side are good enough but 6-7 quality players can compete with Pompey, Villa, Boro, West Ham, and Blackburn who incidently were saved from the threat of relegation by Hughes one season and finished 6th the next
64 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:17
No lets see who is more respected in Newcastle in 5 years because that is the point and KK will forever be respected more
The fact that Deschamps cant find a job for love nor money says a fair bit to me
65 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:20
oh yeah, because kevin keegan had the offers flying in didnt he, who else would have hired a guy who hasnt watched a proper match for god knows how long and runs a circus, lol! only us

69 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:30
Deschamps has only just declared he wants to get back into management.
70 CRAIGG // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:42
Andrei Arshavin
Michael Carrick
Wayne Bridge
Darren Bent
Wes Brown
Dean Ashton
Diego Lugano
Christoph Metzelder
Alex Song
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Steve Sidwell
Paul Robinson (West Brom left back not shit keeper)
and also Brian Howard from Barnsley, Everton are linked a bit but he looks a player
Obviously not all of these would come but all would improve us and are kind of realistic for one reason or another.
Tom_Toon what do you know about Vahirua i seen him a few times in the french league and he looks kind of like a tim cahill type player he’s a attacking midfielder who can also play off the front man who seems to pop up the box and scores quite a few.
71 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 18:48
Marama Vahirua, probably to weak for the prem, quick forward/am, scored some immense goals, worth taking a chance if we can get him for cheap but hes jsut moved so im nt sure.
72 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 19:03
thats a fair enough list, i agree with all apart from bridge, Ashton and bent.
i dont agree with those because i think Bent suits a more direct play (like liverpool) and doesn’t seem to shine in teams who like to play possession (like tottenham), and i think everyone wants newcastle to be a very good possession team dont they? like arsenal, man city, united etc.
bridge is injured a bit too much for me but very good player though, just as good as cashley cole if you ask me.
Ashton seems to me that he has let the “he’s the new shearer” talk go to his head, and now believes he is so good that he doesn’t even have to try. i do not rate him, he seems like another player who would come here and play with 50% effort.
73 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 19:04
i dont know about robinson or howard
74 Dragoner // Feb 22, 2008 at 19:05
i think sidwell would be a great signing as he ALWAYS gives 110%
75 Tom_Toon // Feb 22, 2008 at 19:20
Metzelder, ahaha, we may aswell buy a piece of paper saying ‘Metzelder’ on it because he is constantly injured
76 hanzemre // Feb 23, 2008 at 9:19
as a NUFC fan i do adore KK & Bobby Robson as they have this club in their hearts & pretty much contributed to those lovely moments though they did not really winning anything (silverwares) & some people start to sulking/laughing. GTH they did won my heart until now … so I support KK’s 2nd coming as the Entertainers part II. Hail KK !
