Alan Smith is sure the impact of Kevin Keegan as Manager at Newcastle United is beginning to show on the pitch.

Alan Smith - missed a couple of good chances on Saturday
The effects of a change in training and game tactics is starting to show and it certainly did on Saturday, that’s for sure. And it was great to see the lads doing everything they could - but score the goals we deserved.
But the effort and play was first class - all except the finishing - which we hope will be better at Anfield on Saturday, where we are looking for a result.
The 27-year-old Leeds-born striker told Newcastle World TV today.
“The more and more we work together the more influence the manager is having,” “We are getting fitter and there is a camaraderie and that’s something the gaffer has emphasized since he came in.â€
“Everyone is playing for each other and that stands us in good stead.†“It is a time where we have to stand up and be counted, go out in front of 52,000 people and prove our worth.â€
“We’ve got to show to everyone that we want to fight for the cause.” “It’s getting tight but you always knew it would do,”
“We looked at our home games as ones that were winnable, and one was against Blackburn.†“We’ve deserved criticism on occasions this season and we’re all big enough to accept that.â€
Good words from Alan. We didn’t win against Blackburn and we didn’t even get one point as it turned out, but we think the game could be the turning point for us.
What we want to see from Alan and the boys from now on is the same type of performance, effort and heart they put into the game on Saturday.
Every single player put in a good shift, and credit has to go to Kevin and his training staff for having the boys ready and having a good match plan in place, which on any other day would have brought us all 3 points.
Smudge even had a decent game, but he was guilty of missing a couple of very good chances - one a header and the other a shot, after he had beautifully turned his man. But he put in a lot of work for the team and it didn’t go unnoticed.
Although we have to be realistic and realize we are still nowhere clear of danger, we were very heartened by the many good displays on Saturday and the boys have to be commended on a great effort.
Now for Liverpool next Saturday.
Comments welcome.

Something like
KK. I am sure I put 11 out on the pitch, just who is missing.

Zamblera may make his debut in the reserves tonight, the 17 year old is on the bench for the Everton game.
Hopefully he’ll get his chance. From what I’ve heard Baheng isn’t getting many pulses racing so far.

I hate mr. no goal Smith
4 Rich // Mar 3, 2008 at 17:06
Smith needs to score a vital goal for Newcastle to get us points to keep us up, then we migh just might forgive him for being shite!! Prove us wrong though please
5 Callum // Mar 3, 2008 at 17:21
Smith needs to stand up and accept he isnt good enough
6 Big Gaz // Mar 3, 2008 at 17:29
Tell you what Smudge, instead of trying to talk a good game, why dont you strat knocking in a few goals. That would prove your worth, and your massive salary, and possibly steer us clear of trouble. Stupid paroxide blonde gobshite ! ! !
7 looney toons // Mar 3, 2008 at 17:49
i dont noe how true this is - but my m8s from school say smith has a clause in his contract saying ‘ if he is fit he has to play in all game’ i dont believe it! but it kinda makes sense - BA mite have done it to convince him to come to newcatle from man utd n da only game he hasnt played some of a game was wen he gt suspensed n wen faye injured his head!!!
hope its not true - HE IS RUBBISH!!
but has anyone else heard da same
8 Tom_Toon // Mar 3, 2008 at 17:50
Smudge - Needs to do something, or do one.
9 Hadji // Mar 3, 2008 at 17:52
We should let him play only on friendly games.
10 Pete // Mar 3, 2008 at 18:00
Blabla, we need to stand up and be counted. How many times have I heard that jibberish only to be served a hapless performance. I’m sure this time will be different tho
11 Punk Skunk // Mar 3, 2008 at 18:01
…Or maybe the reserves…Score a couple of goals, get the feelin’ again, get his eye in, then maybe play in the 1st team again?..
12 ToonUSA // Mar 3, 2008 at 18:05
He should not be alowed to speak to the media until he scores
13 Punk Skunk // Mar 3, 2008 at 18:06
He shouldn’t be allowed to dye his hair again, ’til he scores!..

Oh and another thing.Instead of having a go at Enrique after the Blackburn goal maybe you shouldve been looking a bit closer to home you bag of wind.

i hope harper keeps the first team place because he was very good against blackburn and made some top quality saves when he came on against manure.
18 Punk Skunk // Mar 3, 2008 at 18:51
I reckon he will obafemimartins, he’s looked pretty solid when he’s played…Don’t think y’could blame him for saturday, he didn’t stand much chance really…it was a well placed shot from distance…Grrrrrrrrr!..
…Also, is it just me or do the defense look a bit less frightened with him behind them?..
19 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 20:07
This is totally off topic but I posted this earlier i’ll say it again
Earlier i saw taylor described as follows “No loss. he’s a geordie bramble. Edgar is a way better playerâ€
Edgar has played 4 first team games yes he was good and looks good in the reserves but you really judge him on that compared to taylor
who admittedly has not been good recently but jesus he was immense last season and the season before that and has been solid for large parts of this season do any of remember more than a couple of weeks??
Cacapa has been shite most of his time in the first team yet you are going back to his time at lyon in a shitty, slow league yes he has been good at times but to say we should keep a 32 has been over a Talented local academy boy and future england captain is moronic.
Can some of you honestly not remember taylors contribution over the last two years in the premiership marking out of games players the quality of drogba, berbatov, Henry, Van persie etc.
yes Edgar looks good but Huntington was also good when he played and certainly Ramage when given the chance to play centre back or right was and has been much better than given credit for, in particular last season.
On Edgar If the lad gets in the first team and has 2 bad games some of you lot will tell us he should be sold.
In reply to some peoples comments the other day i do believe everything i write and if some of you got your arse to some games then you would not want duff to start over milner and the critisism of Given earlier on was pathetic some of you beggar belief even more pathetic was Black Caesar (As usual) blaming match going loyal fans as the cause of our problems! they’re
the reason for our premiership status you arsehole.
We will not be relegated and i will sing out my damn heart between now and the end of the season to help the lads stay up.
King Kev then will start to set off the fireworks.
HOWAY THE LADS

Spot the Zebra- I saw Smith and Barton having a go at Enrique and thought it was shocking cos he was left badly exposed on the half way line and he put in a better performace than Barton and Smith have all season without being in the squad for a while.
Keegan says Barton and Smith are the type of players you want in a relegation battle but he does not say they are the player’s that have done nothing all season and are the main reasons why we are in this position.
21 Tom_Toon // Mar 3, 2008 at 20:41
Craigg - You are a tit. Just go on a fkin rampage through a shopping centre with yer handbag, just shut up and face that people have different opinions instead of thinking your own is best; and in my opinion you’re just blindly deluded to some if not most things.
22 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 20:45
“Lets buy Danny shittu”
You have a real nerve calling me a tit and my opinion is that of a supporter

24 Tom_Toon // Mar 3, 2008 at 20:48
Im a supporter and the other people you name and ’shame’ are supporters, get over yourself.
25 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 20:53
And what am i so deluded about the fact that i believe in Kevin Keegan and appreciate his contribution to my club,
the fact that i think its wrong when people slag off James milner and pathetic when people say duff should start in front of him despite the fact that duff has no assists to his name in his 2 seasons at NUFC,
The fact that Steven Taylor for the last 2-3 years has been great and doesnt deserve the shit he gets because he is having a rough patch at the moment
or maybe that i dont suggest players that no one has heard of, that youve seen on youtube and think we should buy them because they can balance the ball on their bell end with a blindfold on or even because i dont think danny shittu would be our best defender bar Faye!!! lol
you are a real twat
26 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 20:56
And youre not a supporter you just slag off the club and contribute nothing constructive
“Lets buy Chikaoui because i saw his name on football manager and he won the world player of the year 10 years in a row”
27 Tom_Toon // Mar 3, 2008 at 21:00
Drop him if he goes through a rough patch, Taylor is quite poor and to be honest, hes only looked good compared to Bramble and well i could look good against Bramble to be perfectly honest. To be honest if you actually tried to find youtubes of half the players i name you wouldnt find any.
Deluded dedication to keegan, you insult someone and get very defensive about it if they say, keegan picked a crap team even if they still say they are supporting him.
At least their bell is big enough to balance a ball on it, unlike yours which you probably havent seen in a while because of your fat gut. Also im not the only person to suggest Danny Shittu, i relayed the thought as i thought it was a good one along with some other fans.
You just dont see how shit alot of our players and alot things about our club are.

“Deluded dedication to keegan, you insult someone and get very defensive about it if they say, keegan picked a crap team even if they still say they are supporting him.”
i myself have criticised his team selection for picking smith, Butt and N’Zogbia at left back and have never had a go at people who support KK i have a go at those who try to belittle him, his achievements and his abilities IE dragoner, Michael, Black caesar and you
I am dedicated to Kevin Keegan as like ive said on many occasions he saved us from bankruptcy and closure and made us what we are today

Well said Smudger. Top player. If only the rest of the team had your commitment and eye for a goal.
36 ToonKing // Mar 3, 2008 at 21:47
Craigg, i had my differences with Tom_Toon but on this issue he is right. Danny Shittu is a very solid defender who is EPL material, wouldn’t cost us more than 1.5 Mil and would probably be our most solid defender. Him and Faye is a dream team if you ask me.
37 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:03
Oh of course back to deschamps absolutely no point in mentioning him the soon to be world beater (apparently)
Jol 5th twice great! the guy is a joke he had buckets of money and quality at his disposal at spurs yet the players failed to respond to him and has been shown up badly by ramos
Adriaanse is more of a quitter than KK and he f**ked up at Ajax and won shit everywhere else other than with a porto side head and shoulders ahead of the opposition in portugal
I honestly think the myth of the foreign manager is just that i honestly believe that british managers dont get some of the credit they deserve
Liverpool in my opinion would win the league under O’Neill, or maybe even Redknapp (whos shown recently what he can do with good players ) but not under Benitez
It is mostly down to the players available and bought, their attitude to the guy in charge, and yes the managers management abilities i dont think that those 3 you mentioned would be any better than KK.
Scolari would have been my top choice but im not daft and i know he would never have come and down to people who can motivate the players, excite the fans and mostly be allowed time to do the job KK was the most obvious choice
After we stay up and he has his own team in place next season if it go’s wrong and KK walks i will retract my statements i hope you will apologise if next season is a success and Kev does the business.
38 CJ // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:03
Toonking-What are you on Danny Shittu a dream ticket did you see him play for Watford in the prem lge obviously you didn’t cos he was a joke he is big and very clumsy and makes similiar mistakes to Bramble i have said it before he is Shit by name Shitter by nature.
39 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:06
toon king youre entitled to youre opinion but i saw shittu live last season and he did not look solid he was a less talented slower boumsong from where i was sitting
40 daiv // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:10
Sod off Smudger. You are allowed to open your gob when you score a goal. Silenced for ever then. You have got a nerve to talk about what will happen. You are officially a total …….. Anybody else with any self respect would keep their mouth shut until they achieved sonmething on the pitch. 0 goals in 25 games. I am speechless. I am even more gobsmacked by our manager describing you as “golddust.” A very worried fan.

44 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:28
Toon king youre entitled to your opinions just like i respect most peoples feelings on this blog but when people have stupid unwarrented digs at KK, some of the players who dont deserve it and mostly the fans who keep this club afloat with our loyalty i get defensive (Deluded apparently) and tell it like it is.
45 ToonKing // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:36
i can feel you craigg. I feel the same way. only problem is i haven’t really decided on KK. I mean i love him as most of us do but i just don’t know if he was the right choice. I think my verdict will only come out next season.
As for the players….hmmm the only player i would like out of the team and who i really really don’t like is Butt. The rest of them i support 100%.
46 Hammy // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:39

47 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:47
Hammy i just care
What did shankly once say about football being much more than life and death
48 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:48
Toon king i personally want out of the team
Smith (Not good enough)
Barton(Suspended thank god)
Butt(Injured long term hopefully)
Duff (Doesnt offer enough anymore)
My team to play liverpool would be
Harper
Beye Edgar Taylor Enrique
Milner Faye Emre N’Zogbia
Owen Martins
Subs: Forster, Cacapa, Duff, Lua Lua, Carroll
Despite popular thought i dont think KK is flawless but there are good reasons why Enrique wasnt used until saturday as it has emerged that he was Injured
Smith Played because oba and Viduka were/are injured
Butt is played as we have neede fayes ability in defense and we only have those who can play DM
Barton plays due to emres injury
KK is not stupid he is just trying to get the best out of what is currently available hence describing Alan Smith as “golddust”
49 ToonKing // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:56
i like your team Craigg, but against Liverpool i would play Cacapa instead of Edgar.
50 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:56
Oh well it looks like Tom_Toon has dodged my question and gone beddy byes guess i’ll join him
51 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 22:58
NOT LITERALLY !!!
I mean i will go bed at my house not tom_toons
52 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:01
Toonking the reason Edgar would start for me is down to the pace advantage Torres would have on Cacapa and Maybe if he came on the height advantage that Crouch would have over Cacapa as well
knowing Benitez and his rotation Reina and Itandje will play up front
53 Tom_Toon // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:04
Ye ill agree to that Craigg.
54 CRAIGG // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:06
We agree on what exactly dropping smith, butt, barton and duff, edgar starting against the scousers or us not sharing a bed ? (or all 3)
55 Tom_Toon // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:21
all 3 + the question
56 ScottyT // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:29
tbh i agree mostly with craigg on this one i hate people who come on here and have a go at some of our most loyal players, managers and fans. The real fans are the ones who support there team through thick and thin and dont criticise unless its constructive, the ones who spend hard earned money on watching the crap that is newcastle play home and away and the ones who sing and ’support’ the team rather than boo. and agen i thought shittu was fkin shite last season he fits perfectly into the ‘big sam boot it club’ hes just massive thats it lol.
with the team u mention i would drop taylor for a bit as i think he needs a break and put faye and edgar together at cb.
57 CJ // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:40
When Edgar has played he has not put a foot wrong and could do no worse than Taylor or Cacapa and i am dreading Ramage coming back in cos he is a shocking footballer and i prey to god he does not get a new contract.
This in my opinion would be the best team
Harper
Beye(c) Faye Edgar Enrique
Milner Butt Emre Zog
Carroll Martins
Foster Taylor LuaLua Owen Duff and Smith lb at home.
58 CJ // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:48
Scotty- I agree with some of the things you say but why should fans not have a go at players just cos they come from the area.
No fan can come on here saying Taylor does not deserve critisim about his form cos he has been playing badly and making mistakes not just him but quite a few. And of all times to come out and complain about his contract he kicks up a fuss whilst where in a relegation battle it was not long a go he was saying there is no hurry to sign a new contract it is all about greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed and he should be ashamed of himself along with his Dad.
59 m. stockley (nicky butt is crap) // Mar 3, 2008 at 23:55
craigg, i agree 110% with your starting line up there, with what we have thats the best we could put out… faye would be a star in that dm area and could allow emre to create like we know he can… but sadly butt will get the nodd as will smith! i just hope we do some good business in the summer and start from the back… we truley need to rebuild and there are only a few id like to keep tbh.
60 Andy1 // Mar 4, 2008 at 0:04
I don’t think you could really throw Edgar in at Anfield. If you want to give Taylor a rest / drop him because you suddenly think he is shit - I’d try Beye and Faye in the centre. Beye is the only one with a chance of dealing with Torres’ pace. Geremi could then fill in at right back.
61 Tom_Toon // Mar 4, 2008 at 0:27
But then how is geremi with no legs going to match up with Babel’s pace who is faster than Torres.
62 CJ // Mar 4, 2008 at 0:38
Tom Toon- 100% agree Geremi has not got the pace to deal with Babel from what i have seen of Babel he is possibly the quickest in the lge but Geremi is that slow he would struggle with the pace of Kuyt. If i was KK Geremi would never play again from what i heard when he signed for us he got millions just for signing for us and has been a complete joke.
63 m. stockley // Mar 4, 2008 at 0:39
yeah i heard that wasnt his signing on fee about 2 million?
64 Michael // Mar 4, 2008 at 2:32
Craigg, take a chill bill dude, you will rupture an artery or something.
Now let me explain myself. I have nothing at all against Kevin Keegan, I wish him good health and luck. Believe me Craigg, I would love for Kevin to prove me wrong if it meant our club Prospered. I would love for him to prance up the league table, in fact let me rephrase it, I would “luv it” if he turned the team around, but I am merely pointing out the realities.
We must agree, now please I ask that you do not interject even in thought before you finish reading what I am saying.
The results have not been good, we can agree there, they have been horrendous. Sam was bad, but not this bad. Keegan said it himself, these are not my words, ” I do not know tactics” Are tactics not an important part of management. I acknowledged Keegan can motivate a team, Saturday was demonstrable of this fact. Motivation is not enough, We will always find ourselves short despite being high on motivation, we will be short when tactical teams play us, So far since Keegan has come, we have not been beaten by 20 or 30 players, or players more motivated than our players, we are being tactically outplayed with no response, we are unable to respond because we are not playing with tactics.
11 vs 11 both sides are motivated but one is using tactics the other just “get up at em” These a pub football against a professional outfit. Sorry buddy, but we are going to be hit for 6 simple as that. Do you know why Keegan is not getting to choose his own staff, because Mike Ashley and Mort know Keegan does not do tactics so they get someone who can to try and make up for his short comings. They know if they left it to Kev, he would bring his friends “from down at the pub”
The reason Kev plays butt and smith is because they show heart and motivation, that is what Kev is looking at, commitment. Kev is a has been and his brand of football was out of date before 2000
I am sorry if offends you but some of us have got eyes and I will not deny what I see.
65 hanzemre // Mar 4, 2008 at 5:34
Alan Smith as a CF when will you score us a goal? this week? another game? next season? just score some goals soon only then i can consider you any good to NUFC.
66 AdamCF // Mar 4, 2008 at 7:57
I’d reckon a team like below might be the go. Play Faye as the DM as he’s tall and his passing is very good. We need a tall midfielder.
Harper
Beye Taylor Cacapa Enrique
Faye
Milner Emre (if fit/if not, N’Zogbia) N’Zogbia/Duff
Martins Viduka (if fit/if not, Carroll)
Subs: Forster Geremi Duff (if Emre’s fit/if not, Smith) Carroll (if Viduka’s fit/if not, Lua Lua) Owen
