Rafa Benitez was on Sky Sports this evening and seemed to be in high spirits.

Rafa Benitez - complimentary about Keegan and Newcastle
He talked about Newcastle United and Kevin Keegan and was surprisngly complimentary to both.
Rafa said:
“I think they have enough quality in their squad, and also the manager has a lot of experience. It’s a surprise where they are because they have very good players, so hopefully after this game they will start winning,” (said with a wry smile).
“I think that, because they were in a bad position, and then they couldn’t win the first games, they have been a little bit under pressure.”
”When you are under pressure you cannot play at your level. But they have enough quality and experience in the squad, so I think after this game they will start winning.”
Benitez also talked about Liverpool old boy Michael Owen who scored 118 goals in 216 first team appearances for the club from 1997-2004.
“We know Michael is a very good player and a great finisher.”
“We’ll have to take care of him tomorrow and if he is calm against us then maybe he can go and score 20 goals,”
As we said, Rafa seemed upbeat and even tried to crack a few jokes.
It could be a classic game again tomorrow with Keegan no doubt relishing playing against Liverpool again. In his first stint at the club they were some of the best games seen in the Premier league when his entertainers played Liverpool.
Yes, we know we shouldn’t talk too much about the past, but we are hoping at 5pm tomorrow afternoon that we’ll have something good to talk about again.
A win is not such a fallacy tomorrow.
Comments welcome.

nope, this is a dasterdly trick by rafa to make us have hopes before the game and then put a full strength squad out, in the knowledge that ‘we have too much quality’ in it

When KK was first at Nufc I heard and saw at practice s he would do five a side all the time , and look for quick passing game as the art of good football . Does anyone know what he is teaching them now on the training ground . I would love to be a fly on the wall , and see who is really up for it and who are just going through the paces waiting for a transfer at the end of the season . Brring on the young ones I implore you Kev , playing with heart and agression thats what we all want to see !!
Prediction Liverpool 2 Toon 1 , I think we may be getting better defensively , but Owen is just not working up front , he needs a foil like Carroll ……

Go get Heskey to NUFC. Heskey’s the best foil for Owen. England vs Russia & England vs Isreal at Wembly 2007 showed that they’re still an effective proven partnership.

And add a creative CM to provide the supply to the frontmen and we’ll be on the winning way again.

ronaldeano, classic vid cheers, made me cry with laughter……..
Benitez, I agree thet KK has alot more experience than last time he was here but I’m not sure the “kidology” (as my old man used to say) is necessary as Liverpool have a fine team in goal scoring form
