Terry McDermott has again talked about the hope for Newcastle United next season - if we can just avoid relegation this year.

Kevin Keegan - big hopes for next season if we can survive the drop
Terry McDermott talked at length to the Newcastle Journal this morning:
“I am looking forward to next season,” “Mr. Ashley has promised there are funds available. The caliber of player we are looking for, it will excite this club when it does happen.”
“Firstly, though, we have to get into a safe position, we have to get out of this relegation dogfight and then talk about the players we can bring in for next season.”
“You can talk about Ronaldinho or (David) Beckham, but if we go down we will be signing players from Colchester and Gillingham.”
“There will be a big relaunch in the summer and Mr. Ashley has promised him funds and he is looking forward to doing that. We will be safe, but until then”
“I am baffled by people saying ‘No points, no goals, no hope’,” “If we have brought five players in and we are in the same situation next season okay, you are not wrong. But at this stage, no hope? That is beyond belief for me.”
“People say, ‘Will he leave, is he going to walk out?’ There is absolutely no chance, he thinks too much about this club to do that. If the powers that be decide he goes then that is a different story.”
“He is an emotional personality. He cares about the club very deeply and it hurts him when players and the club get criticized. He wears his heart on his sleeve, but that is his character.”
“ He has signed a three-and-a-half year contract and I would be shocked if Kevin is not here for the whole of that. But some people want him to fail. I have no idea why.”
“People from down south who are not Geordies do not understand that it is not just football people that love Kevin in Newcastle, it is the city. They love him because of who he is. He talks to people, he loves doing it.”
“The general public love him because he is so honest and warm to them, he never refuses them anything. That typifies him.”
“He brings a unity about the place,” “It is his charisma. There is a feel-good factor back, but that would be even better if we were getting results.”
“Once we have sorted out this season you will see a big, big change at this football club, in its mentality and players.”
“We will get this football club back to being the football club it should be because we know what this football club is about.”
You get the feeling that Terry is a big fan of Kevin don’t you?
Well, first things first - we are still in danger of going down and we just hope and pray we can get something out of the game at Anfield today.
That will certainly raise the mood in Tyneside.
Comments welcome.

Nice words from Terry Mac and i do not think any NUFC fan does not agree with the same sentiments.
Yes at the moment it is all about ifs and buts, but at least he is looking ahead and trying to be positive.
if we get 3 points from the Birmingham game i think survival will be ours, but if we fail, i think it will be doom and gloom.

Read KKs autobigraphy and youll see Terry Macs role its a pure assistant Managers role.
KK bounces ideas off him and they go and watch players together and negotiate contracts and signings together, KK also uses him to find out the players feelings on his decisions and their feelings in general, Terry mac is the link between the players and Manager.
He doesnt take training sessions but not many managers or assistants do
Fergie and queiroz dont at Man Utd, Mike Phelan and the specialist coaches do and at Man City neither Sven or Tord Grip dont even take the training nor did they previously with England Steve mcclaren and ray clemence did and now Derek Fazackerley takes the general training and Eric steele works with the keepers at City.
Kev and his Coaches Steve Round and Chris Hughton take the training, Paul Barron works with our keepers.
Aurthur Cox works behind the scenes mostly working as an advisor to KK and helping him tactically as he was a successful manager in his own right, He is rarely on the training ground just because you dont see him much doesnt mean he doesnt do anything.
Peter Beardsley didnt take training sessions when Kev was the England manager yet we would all love to see him involved at the club and read steven gerrards book to see how much he appreciated beardos advice and input.
Terry Mac is KKs assistant and in his own words a buffer and I think he probably does more than you think.

When do we see the team sheet? I hope Smith isn’t starting, although i know he will be. I’m not sure about Martins and Owen, i don’t think Martins is the right player to feed Owen. My shout would be to chuck Carroll in at the deep end, he seems the type to relish the chance rather than be struck by stage fright.

WHY ALAN SMITH!?! he has done NOTHING to warrant a starting place, no assists, no goals.
Apart from that its about the best we could have hoped for.

my worry is not Smudger, he has been decent lately, my concern is that both Torres and Stevie G are starting……..
, Rafa The Potato Rotator decided not to rotate today, typical……
21 CRAIGG // Mar 8, 2008 at 14:40
Kev i love you to bits but Smith is not deserving of a place, It is infuriating that he is in the matchday squad but the starting line up is a joke
22 The black in the blacknwhite // Mar 8, 2008 at 14:45
f***k smith- what a waste- kev your being stupid- i really hate favouratism, especially when it is not warrented
f**king joke
23 Mar.k // Mar 8, 2008 at 16:22
Smith is shit.
24 Toon Andy // Mar 8, 2008 at 18:22
Smith’s not as shit as Owen.
Martins is ten times the player Owen is (and, indeed, ever was) and should have started: that’s the problem, not Smith who at least has the bottle to fight to get us out of this mess.
Come on Kev, drop Owen as both captain and a starting player. His best game this season was against Everton, because he was sh*t-scared having been dropped and being forced to come off the bench - that’s not a coincidence.
Hopefully at least some chunk of Owen’s £110k a week is conditional on his making an appearance, or at least there’s some similar appearance fee clause because money is all that motivates him and we need to persuade him that his job is to score goals, not prance about looking a right tit.
