Andy Carroll has six goals from his last five games for our reserves and he’ll be action at Morecambe tonight to face Blackburn Rovers.
Andy Carroll - will lead the line tonight for the second team
The team has been names by Adam Sadler but Tamas Kadar is away on international duty with the Hungary under-19s team and is not available. But Ole Soderberg, Ben Tozer and Wesley Ngo Baheng all start tonight.
Newcastle will start the following side tonight for the 7pm kick-off:
Olle Soderberg, James Marwood, Darren Lough, Mark Doninger, Ben Tozer, Callum Morris, Jonny Godsmark, David Edgar, Andy Carroll, Wesley Ngo Baheng, Kazenga LuaLua
Subs: Ryan Donaldson, Mark Cook, Fabio Zamblera, Shane Ferguson, Matthew Grieve
David Edgar is the old man in the squad and is also our captain. He doesn’t turn 21 until May.
Of course our outstanding young 19 year old goalkeeper Fraser Forster will not play because he is currently acting as back up to Steve Harper while Shay Given is out injured.
One last important point, we’ve been told by some of our Swedish readers the correct way to spell Soderberg’s first name is Olle. Ole is apparently the Norwegian form of the name. Just thought you may like to know that important piece of information and that the club seem to be spelling his name incorrectly.

would be nice to see baheng score again, i really think he could become a top player eventually. also zamba would be nice if he could get on the score sheet.
compared to the main team i always see that the reserves could get a goal or two, compared to the mainteam where im looking and thinking,who will score for us with pessimism

Carroll hasnt shown anything in the first team, Lua Lua has and should be selected, if Fabio is good then he should be moved up quickly before he settles in the reserves.
Carroll needs to show something in the first team next time he gets a chance.

hate to say it but i agree with you. even when the game seems to be lost the youngsters don’t get a run out. Its frustrating.

I’m not sure if KK has ever been keen to give youngsters a chance. I think he believes its easier and less hassle to just have the money to buy top players and say screw the reserves and the academy. It certainly looks that way. I would play Edgar, Carroll and Lua in the firsts for a few run outs, how could they do any worse than the overpaid prima donnas we have?

Hammy is right and sadly I have to agree with Scott Hodge. Get the feeling recently that some players (eg Butt, Smith, Owen) are in on a nod and wink. Something smells to me!! Is KK scared of them? The prima donnas, these over-paid divas are not going to do it for us at all. And some players seem to think they can smooth it over by blabbing bullshit to the press. Give the reserves a chance and bring Oba with Carroll and Lua Lua in from the start.

Chris good point. But you misunderstand
The risk is not playing the younger players. The risk is playing the same crop of players who haven´t shown anything.
I can only see the youngsters saving us. I can´t see this team turning this around. I just can´t.

Change of subject here - but why the hell does everyone say that Beye has been a good player for us and that he plays with loads of heart etc. Its really gettin on me tits!
He has been distictly average this season…..not terrible and not impressive.

ChrisM, I think people see Beye as someone who has put his head down and tried to do the best job he can as he learns the EPL and he is nowhere near our worst player.
Average is better than most tbh!
If Carroll scores again tonight start him Monday.

I know he is only young but if i was in Carroll’s shoes i would be sickened that Smith and Owen can keep getting a game when they are not performing.
I have seen more from Carroll when he has come on just a few times in the past 16 month’s and for the reserves to suggest he could give the opposition a lot more problem’s than the ineffective Smith i personally think that Martins and Carroll could link up well together with Carroll’s strength at bringing the ball down and bring Martins in to the game Carroll is way more mobile than Viduka aswell. I would rather play Ameobi upfront than Smith cos i am sure Shola would have more goals than Smith or Viduka if he had been in the first team.

It’s our mid-field that’s the problem!..That’s where the goals are built or not, in our case!..
…Footballers get payed loads, get used to it!..It’s only when we’re losing that we pick on players wages…It’s a non-starter to say they get too much, that’s the deal!..
…No-one will score if they don’t get the service, so it’s dumb to think this striker or that sucks!..
…How many chances do we create per game, that’s the problem!..Equally, bad mid-field puts extra pressure on the defense, & so it goes, on & on!..Fear sets in etc, etc…
…Don’t go thinkin’ i’m lettin’ them off the hook!..& i think Carroll deserves a shot, but we can’t/won’t start throwin’ too many kids in the mix all at once!..
…But, like i said, it’s mid-field where we’re really lackin’!..
