Some good news tonight in that Birmingham lost 4-2 at Portsmouth with their game in hand, and are still 2 points behind Newcastle United, who they play at St. Andrews next Monday night.

Kevin Keegan - can we win on Monday?
In the game tonight Portsmouth were 2-0 up after just 9 minutes but Birmingham actually fought back (Newcastle players take note) and were all square at halftime. But then 2 second half goals were enough to give the South Coast side all 3 points.
Middlesbrough went another point ahead of Newcastle, when they got a creditable 1-1 draw at Villa Park, and were ahead until the 74th minute when Gareth Barry equalized with a penalty.
Chelsea were all over Derby County and took them apart 6-1, with in-form Frank Lampard scoring 4 goals. Chelsea were 6-0 up before they slipped up and David Jones pulled one back for the visitors. Newcastle remain the only side Derby County have defeated all season.
Here is the latest Premier League table with tonight’s game included:
Pos Team Games Won Draw Lost GF GA GD Points 12 Middlesbrough 29 7 9 13 26 43 -17 30 13 Wigan 29 7 7 15 26 42 -16 28 14 Reading 29 8 4 17 34 55 -21 28 15 Newcastle 29 7 7 15 30 56 -26 28 16 Sunderland 29 7 6 16 26 47 -21 27 17 Birmingham 29 6 8 15 33 45 -12 26 18 Bolton 28 6 7 15 28 42 -14 25 19 Fulham 29 3 11 15 26 49 -23 20 20 Derby 29 1 7 21 14 63 -49 10

Good night for the toon - now we have to beat Brum on Monday night.
To be fair if we can’t beat our fellow relegation strugglers we probably deserve to go down!

if we win 3 of the last 9 i think we will be safe, just by the skin of our teeth, i think we could do with the odd draw here and there too just to be sure

Smogs have got Arsenal,Chelsea and ManU in 3 out of their next four games……. so lets think more positive, be top dogs in the north and catch up and overtake the smogs in the league in the next few weeks!!!!!!!!!
If we do that we won’t even have to think about relegation.

We can’t always depend on other results. We must get some ourselves. We are going no where even if the 5 teams below us can’t get any win till the end of the season.

INJURY WATCH:
Seems unlikely that Emre will play at Birmingham, according to physioroom.com and Viduka might just be available.
Emre - calf muscle strain - returning 22nd Mar
Viduka - hamstring - returning 17th Mar
Milner - ankle - no return date
Carr - hamstring - 30th Mar
Given - groin - no return date
Ramage - knee - 22nd Mar
Krul - dislocated shoulder - no return date
i would desperately want Martins to start. He is just so threatening with his pace and power, as he had shown at Anfield. He is also the only player who has the courage to shoot. He, in my opinion, can create something out of nothing on his own, so when the midfield aren’t creating, like we have been all season, he can create his own. King Kev, are you listening for once? Field Martins. He needs to play, or rather Newcastle needs him to play.

no he’s not listening. at least i sure hope not. i hope he realizes he has much more important things to do than check a fans’ blog for comments.

my dad reckons that being relegated would be the best thing that could happen to this club…

We really are in trouble if we dont beat the brummies on monday.Martins is the only one who can save our season as smith and butt will be regular starters and that means we start our matches with 9 men.If smith just turned around and ran like he use to at leeds he would get a few goals. With the youth and pace in premiership midfields in the last few years how does butt think he can keep up,he should be put out to the field to pasture.
It is time to stop showing loyalty to these types of players and start fielding hungry players who want this club to stay in the premiership. My team for monday

Young Johhny Godsmark has tremendous pace. Why, I wonder are Butt, Smith and Taylor automatic choices. The only place I’d put them automatic choice for would be the transfer list. Would the great Steven Taylor, NUFC Evening Chronicle correspondent, stay at the club next season if we were relegated, I think not !!
