Milner Misses Vital Birmingham Game

March 13th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 21 Comments

After initially getting good news about James Milner’s foot injury on Monday, the news today on James is not good.

James Milner with future star - will not play on Monday - James that is :D

We will definitely be without Milner for Monday’s trip to Birmingham City, and the 22 year-old winger may be sidelined for up to three weeks.

An initial X-ray revealed no broken bones, but Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan told Newcastle World TV on Friday morning that Milner would be missing for the vital game at St. Andrew’s on Monday:

“James will definitely miss Birmingham,” “We will know more on Monday but we could be looking at two to three weeks.”

“He’s got a protective boot, not a pot, on his foot at the moment but there is no break.”

“He took a heck of a whack when he kicked Lucas’ foot.”

“But he’s a young, fit lad and he’ll be back before the end of the season.”

This is hardly good news for Newcastle fans. The Yorkshireman is not only a good player, but he does a lot of work up and down the right wing during games. And we know James’ head will never drop in a game, unlike some others in the side.

But that prognosis from James is not too bad, because we know James is not only a quick healer, but like goalkeeper Shay Given, is just desperate to play and help out the team. That’s because both players are totally committed to Newcastle United. Contrast that with some others in the injury room these last few weeks.

Under those circumstances we’d guess James could be available for the Tottenham game at White Hart Lane on March 30th, but will miss an all important home game with Fulham on March 23rd. If we can’t win that one we’ll deserve to go down.

That’s the way it goes though, and it should give others a chance to come in and earn their wages. Duff on the right wing and Charles N’Zigbia on the left doesn’t look too bad to us for Monday.

Comments welcome.

That means he will play Smith on the front wing so he can play Martins up front without dropping Smith

  • 2 Leo // Mar 13, 2008 at 10:18

yep i fear that is what he will do james

Get Lua Lua wide right! He’s got pace and trickery and isn’t afraid to run at people.

But like you lads I reckon it’s Smith who’ll get the nod.

It’s a blow Milner’s out for Monday - he’ll be a big miss in what’s a huge game now, especially after their defeat at Pompey last night. The worrying thing for me is Blues appear to have a bit of fighting spirit (coming from 2-0 down back to 2-2) and Newcastle have the complete opposite at the minute. A goal down and a defeat seems inevitable. The fight and spirit needs to be restored - and quickly or the unthinkable might just happen.

It doesn’t bode well, does it?..
…Maybe we can employ smith at the back, so the non-goal scoring hoodoo is in our box instead…Ha!..

I still think we should Kidnap Smith, just to be sure.

Shame about Milner. He’s a professional and dedicated footballer. I agree that Lualua would be a good replacement for the time being, but Geremi’s not too bad on that side either.

I have been watching and writing about football (not in english) for several years, and my best adwise to Keagan is: If you will be quite shore to loose this and our next matches, than use Smith and Butt on the midfield. There are no commitment beetveen our front and bachline when they are playing on the team. Dont use them - they at not creaters any more.

well…the only logical explenation why smith is playing every match is that he has that written in contract… damn…ashley sure is his fan…didn’t expect the new owner will fu*k us up… if he won’t solve this problem (sell smith) in the summer than he should sell the club…’cos…who wants to watch our club being sabotaged by our own people…
