Newcastle Interested In 18 Year-Old Mark Beevers

Newcastle United are reported to be interested in Sheffield Wednesday’s young up and coming star Mark Beevers.

The youngster is now playing for the first team at Hillsborough, and his performances are being tracked by a number of clubs, which now includes Newcastle United. Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea are all said to be interested in the youngster.

18 year-old Mark is a 6’4” defender who was born in Barnsley, England. He was recently placed on standby for the England under-19s upcoming game against Croatia on 5 February 2008. Andy Carroll is already in England’s squad for that game.

Mark made his senior debut at Southampton in January 2007 at age 17, giving an accomplished display at the heart of the defense. He had joined the club at age 12. He is strong in the air and hard in the tackle and has continued to progress during his first full-time campaign at Hillsborough.

He has been a regular in the Owls Reserve team and was first called into the first team 16 for the FA Cup tie with Manchester City in January 2007, having been awarded a professional contract in late 2006. Mark has played 22 times so far for the Owls.

It seems like £1M is close to the fee it will take to get the youngster. However, it may be difficult to persuade Mark that his chances are better at Newcastle than at other clubs. That’s what we’ll have to compete on, so at least we need to go after the youngsters we really want, and let the chips lie where they may.

On 28 January 2008, Sheffield Wednesday signed Beevers to an improved contract which runs through 2012.

I don’t know about Marker Beevers but i think a Beever would have done a better job than Smith has done for us this season.

i actually live in sheffield and know mark very well through my brother and i know for a fact that hes said that he would love a move into the premiership but would want to stay up north, very interesting but al have to ask him what the situation is next time i see him

Beardo and Bez in a talk in tonight have been talking about Thierry Henry on his way and that KK was a done deal from last September. I have had the same text from 2 separate people at the venue. I know, sounds like kaka - just thought i would let yuz all know…..!

maybe we could sign him for £1m plus they get Tozer or Kadar on loan for a season as a replacement?

I am excited by all these youngsters but it seems after the five we got in January things have dried up somewhat and we seem to be losing out to other clubs, as was the case with Kalouda.

Lets see if we can make progress with the signings of Beevers and Sam Vokes in the next few days.

By the way, did Super Oba ever sign a new contract. I hope he has/does. I wouldnt mind him being our highest paid player once Owen leaves, he certainly deserves it for sticking with a team that loses all the time, with managers that refuse to play him as much as he should.

I didnt rate Oba before African nations as when he played i didnt feel he had improved enough from last yr, however, he seems to have improved a great deal since coming back from the african nations.

to tell the truth rich, i dont think its a case of people competing with us, but more a case of who WE can compete with…and with the state our club is currently in, thats probably nobody outside of the bottom eight of the league. Just like Pandev, Gomis and Fabiano, he already looks way too good to want to join our club, especially from a team in the champions league every year. Pity, he is a great winger.

Our performances over the last few years has robbed us of the opportunity to sign these types of players unless we offer them crazy wages. So it looks like we will have to continue with the youth team route…which i dont mind to tell the truth, it just ensures we have a good structure to the club and a bright future.

Tom Toon i have seen keiron gibbs live quite a few times and he is class, in my opinion he is better than traore, and neither will get first team with clichy there anyway, so maybe he would be a good buy. Also, Fran Merida is not going to get a chance with cesc there so we should be looking to buy a few arsenal youths. Randall is class but i dont think Wenger will sell him

About the McGeady comments, it’s a bit deceptive when talking about Celtic in the Champions League every year. They only manage it because Rangers are the only team they have to worry about, and it’s not like they’ll ever have a chance of winning it.
