There’s an important Premier League game tonight at Manchester United.
But it’s not that Manchester United can go 3 points clear of Arsenal if they beat Bolton tonight that matters to Newcastle fans. This is Bolton’s game in hand over Newcastle United and if they lose tonight, Newcastle will be 4 points clear of Bolton.
Bolton are 3rd bottom so we’ll also be 4 points above the drop zone. But as usual Bolton have a better goal difference (-15) than Newcastle (-26), but maybe the Red Devils can put a few past the Bolton defense tonight.
On current or past form, you wouldn’t expect anything but a Manchester United win, but strange things happen at this stage of the season, when teams are fighting for their survival in the Premier League.
Don’t forget that Bolton beat Manchester United at the Reebok Stadium on 24th November 1-0, with a goal from Nicholas Anelka, who’s now at Chelsea.
But with most pundits, the three favorites to be relegated are Derby, Fulham and Bolton. Newcastle can make that more of a probability on Saturday, by beating Fulham and going 9 points clear of the London side.
We’ll have a relegation watch report tonight following the game.
Comments welcome.

yep and if man city turn up against bolton on saturday and we win fulham we will be 7 points clear which would take the pressure of loads it will be great if we stay up as i think they will be an exiting summer ahead as if we actually pull of some of the signings weve been linked with we will have a SQAUD WITH TOP
van buyten
cueller (rangers cb)
riise
mcgeady
sidwell
arshevin
pandev
gomis
i also think we should try for park ji sung of man utd admitley i no we might not get him but if we showed him our ambitions and guaranteed him 1st team football week in week out he would be an exellent signing
2 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 16:26
doubt the mancs are gonna get rid of their Asia shirt sales scott9 lol
3 tdt // Mar 19, 2008 at 16:44
thats good news if bolton lose tonight, even though I always want manure to lose ALL the time because I HATE them, I suppose in this situation it is better if bolton lose. if we will are easier games against fulham, sunderland and reading, we’ll be fine i think, although I hope the other crap teams down by us lose there last 2 games, as we have really tough last 2…
4 scott 9 // Mar 19, 2008 at 16:50
yes thats what i thought spyro
5 Rich // Mar 19, 2008 at 16:54
tdt - thats my only concern as well the last 2 games are tough i can see 1 point at best v Chelsea at home. Hopefully we will have done enough by then by winning our home games
6 tdt // Mar 19, 2008 at 16:56
thats the plan rich, as long as we’re 7 points clear coming into the final 2 games, I’ll be content
7 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 17:12
rich, what do you think of a cheeky bid for Jefferson Farfan in the summer, i thnk he is in his last yr of his PSV contract & I dont know of any other team interested at the moment and he would be a great partner with Martins
8 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 17:12
IF we stay up of course
9 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 17:17
I dont know how reliable it is, but wikipedia says that west ham and blackburn are gonna go in for him, if this is true then we absolutely have to join them.
10 ScottyT // Mar 19, 2008 at 17:21
if we stay up then our 2 biggest priorities in the summer have got to be to get the defense right eventually and to get creativity and pace into the squad.
we need quality defenders i dont know where from but we just have to cos this year has been dreadfull even afta getting rid of clownsong and tightarse. id get van buyten just cos hes massive lol he any good not really seen him play?
11 Leo Kompany for the Toon // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:12
would be typical if man u lost against bolton
12 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:23
Roy Hodgson has been very nice about Newcastle
I like him and he deserves a proper shot at the premiership after doing so well abroad…
but we have to thump his side on saturday
And then in the games after we play i hope Fulham get those wins at home and scrape out of it and the Mackems go down for a laugh.
13 alex scott // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:26
People are putting forward all these players to come to us but will they sign?
As is always the case we will need to pay way over the odds in wages for players to attract them to the club.
Why would they sign for us over say pompy or west ham?
We need to be realistic in regards to transfers i feel.
14 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:28
we have just as much a chance of signing players as those two, pompey might have a slight advantage because of possibility of uefa cup, however, we have history in uefa and champions league and many players may recognise that and see us as a rising force…maybe lol
15 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:30
Craigg i would rather the unwashed stay up, it makes good rivalry and with our better squad next season we should dispose of them both home and away with ease
16 Steve_48 // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:31
I guess we’re all cheering for the red scum tonight
17 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:34
im kinda rooting for bolton today, but in truth i do not care the result. Boltons remaining fixtures are just way too difficult for them to survive regardless of waht happens tonight.
18 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:38
Spyro i would honestly prefer Boro go down than Sunderland
The media bug me to death with this Tyne Tees derby crap and even more embarassing is the tees wear derby i dont care what they do the media make out its something of a rivalry and its really annoying there a sh*te yorkshire club as far as im concerned.
I agree the real Tyne Wear derby days are amazing to be in the north east theres such a buzz if youre going to the match or watching in the pub.
But Sunderland have plenty of money to spend as well, if they stay up the might be a permanent fixture in the premiership and god forbid they may finbish above us again if something goes badly wrong next season.
By the way Whats with the name change ??
19 Tom_Toon // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:42
Boro are in yorkshire and it aint a fkin derby, the sooner they realise that the better. + Boro fans are much worse than the mackems!
20 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:43
its just shorter…and yes i got ur msg about the name making me sound like a purple ponce lol
21 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:45
u raise a good point, i have NEVER found a geordie who actually cares about boro
22 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:48
i would rather see boro go down too, they are just an utterly pointless team stuck in limbo. and there manager is too ugly for t.v.
23 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:52
Tom_Toon youre right
Boro fans consider it a massive competition to finish above us and they copy the mackems songs about KK and boo Owen like the mackems Used to boo Shearer
We give it sunderland back, as its a derby and a big rivalry, thats why theres so much banter with Mackems that i know, I wish they would get peter reid back as manager, The Fkin Chimp
But we dont bother with the smogs they should go and pick a fight with Bradford, Hull or Grimsby.
24 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 18:54

Gareth southgate couldnt enter the hall of mirrors at alton towers as the insurance wouldnt cover him
25 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:00
lol @ craigg
boro sing!? they get about 500 fans per game dont they, lol
26 ScottyT // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:12
agree with yas on that mind boros support is one of the worst in the league if not country. you see there stadium on motd some days and one whole stand will be empty.
also remember a uefa cup match when they got about 10,000-15,000 which when a team is in europe is embarassing. we got more than that for pre season friendlies lol
27 Scott Hodge // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:16
Probably for the first time since 1969, I feel really tired about whats going on at our club, perhaps I’m getting old but there seems to be too many employees at our club who are there for money and dont really care about NUFC and it worries me that KK could be included. I’ve spent enough on the club to buy a house but it saddens me deeply about who we’re employing these days. I have just scattered my dad’s ashes behind the goal, he supported us since just after the War . As a fan for 40 years I have to say the team and KK are awful and I just dont know where our beloved club is heading? I’ve pretty much give my age by this comment but I’m so upset at whats going on at our beloved club !!
28 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:18
They dont get many fans but theres plenty of seats just in case
They dont sing they just do this annoying hummy song when they score which isnt often
da da da da, duuu duuu duuuu duuuu, da da da da, duuu duuu duuu duuu ETC.
They are Very creative , The music is about the loudest noise coming out of the Pond side Stadium all match and drowns out their fans, And they go “come on boro” continually, and whistle when an opponant makes a mistake and thats about all they do.
I think it was pogatetz who said he doesnt like match days as he has to go into the town centre!!!
29 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:20
pogatetz would be a good signing if they got relegated, he can play ld and cb, decent player for cheap
30 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:23
I virtually p**sed me self earlier when i was looking on Teletext and a boro fan texted in saying something along the lines of
“Newcastles fans are the most loyal because they turn up to watch that dross every week”
I think he should watch a video of their Cup tie with Sheff Utd and if he doesnt fall sleep within the first hour the he should get a holiday and spending money
No wonder they get no full houses ZZZ
31 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:28
I dont like Pogatetz
if we wanted a LB who could play CB then we could do worse than Silvestre
sam tried to sign him but he turned us down because of that loon barton, But if KK kicks barton out then it maybe on again if He overcomes his injury problems
Useful to have players like that as we can change system and go to wing backs with say Taylor on the right of a back three Faye in the middle and the Silvestre on the left of the three.
32 Leo Kompany for the Toon // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:32
i remember one more thing about the birmingham game which shows keegans tactics, when we were going forward in the second half beye was attacking wing back, but when we defending he was inside and taylor was at right back, did anyone notice this?
33 CRAIGG // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:37
Just seen chelseas squad
SWP on the bench again, Bridge and Sidwell left out of the 16 again
KEV YOU CLUB NEEDS YOU GET THEM TO THE TOON
and what do you lads think about Meite as a signing, He had a great CB partnership with Faye at Bolton and If they go down how about an £8M Double bid for Meite and Cahill ??
34 Tom_Toon // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:39
I want some class at the back, someone who can bring it out of defence.

36 Tom_Toon // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:44
ahaha, i saw it posted on bbc 606 and thought it was a bit of a laugh!
37 faustino // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:50
CRAIGG I thought their Cardiff tie was one of the best games I’ve seen all year
FAO Scott Hodge: Do you not think that where ever the club is, it is in the same place it’s been, or at least going, for the last 3-5 years? It’s like the old addage about big ships and how long they take to turn. Just because Ashley doesn’t have a gerodie accent you think he feels less about the club about that fat tw*t Shephed and his inept croneys. Or John Hall who cared so much about the region he adopted one of the worst fake plum accents I’ve ever heard in my life every time he was on camera. Or even captain eye patch before him?
This club and it’s fans needs to stop with the bloody drama it’s becoming tiring it really bloody is. Liverpool, Tottenham, Leeds, Fulham, the list goes on and on of clubs that have dealt with problems, dodgy board, drops in form, administration and a revoling door management policy. Everton have been attrocious for well over 15 years to my mind and have beaten the drop and come back!
Do you wanna know why the press get at us - cos they know we’re the idiots who’ll buy the paper every time they print it - every time.
TBH though for someone who has been with the club since ‘69 I really don’t believe you think this is the lowest ebb - surely?
IMO we’ve been worse and recovered to become better. We will do it again.
38 faustino // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:53
And another thing leave Bridge where he bloody is - he’s sh*t, bascially single handedly lost England the Croatia game - another past it Prem player. Learnthe lesson boys!
SWP on the other hand would be fine as would Sidwell!
39 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 19:59
I dont want Meite, good, but like taylor he makes too many mistake. Bridge is always injured and he will want high wages. Sidwell would be good, but i dont like that idea of him choosing chelsea over us and then coming to us because he couldnt get a game. I used to really rate SWP, but i think his physical size lets him down. He is too weak and short. His finishing and crossing are not consistent, one game he is amazing at both, the next he cant do either.
40 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 20:00
Cahill would be a good signing tho
41 Spyro // Mar 19, 2008 at 20:13

He will have to wax his legs again first tho!!!!
