Rozehnal Back To Newcastle - Don’t Think So

Wednesday March 26th, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 82 Comments

News today coming from Italy is that David Rozehnal is said to be returning to the club at the end of the season.

David Rozehnal - not wanted at Lazio

David is currently on loan at Lazio but has hardly been impressive at the Italian club, who apparently will not take up their option to buy him in the summer.

It’s almost certain that Newcastle will sell the Czech Republic International in the summer, as he hardly looked the part while at Newcastle. Former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce signed Rozehnal in June and paid £2.9M for him from PSG.

Rozehbnal made just 21 appearances for the club, and just didn’t look good enough for the Premier League.

But David seemed to burn his bridges at the club when he made strange statements about how bitter he was at Newcastle for the club playing him out of position.

“I am bitter. I was looking forward very much to coming to Newcastle after playing at Club Brugge and PSG.” “Now I am not sure if this looks like a dream spell. I did not expect I would be sitting on the bench.”

“Once I play as right-back, then left-back. Then in right midfield, or as a defensive midfielder.” “That is why I am so sad that I don’t play as much as I wish to. That is why I don’t feel as well as I felt in Brugge or in Paris. I will fight on.”

But Kevin Keegan was more positive and thought it was a good deal for both David and the club. Rozehnal didn’t get the games because he wasn’t playing well, and made some high profile errors.

We expect Newcastle to unload David in the summer and would be surprised if we see him back on Tyneside. The target would be to get our money back on David.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Even Lazio think you’re crap mate, you’re only coming back so we can sell your sorry ass to crap club.

    How dare you question KK.

  • 2 HeronMag // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:20

Rozenhal was a fool to publicly attack KK the way he did. I actually feel he could have been a decent squad player for us. He’ll still attract buyers but getting £2.9m for him is going to be very difficult in the current market.

Oh well, bye bye David. Your attitude won’t be missed.

  • 3 Davies // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:23

He started off well, but was moved around a lot. I don’t think he’s as bad as he’s been made out to be, but yes, he did make his mistakes.

His biggest mistake is one that a lot of players seem to be making at the moment; making his feelings known to the press.

Too much time talking to dirty journos and not enough time defending your goal. Stephen Taylor take note!

  • 4 Hadrian // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:30

rozy’s a right big baby , he was getting his game at least (even tho he’s shit)

  • 5 Chris // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:37

Don’t know if you’s already know, but CSKA Moscow have signed our target Kalouda for £3.9m.
As for Roz, I wouldn’t welcome him back.

  • 6 Andreas // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:42

Yeah, saw it Chris - might be a loss but guess we’ll just have to see how the boy will be performing in Moscow.

  • 7 Whitt // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:45

not sure how we can get back what we paid…he has shown himself to be less than advertised…

  • 8 ObaFan2 // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:54

Roz continually committed himself to tackles, missed the ball and left stranded. No good in epl but I think he could have learned and become better however he never gave KK a chance and spat his dummy out.

    No good for NUFC.

  • 9 CJ // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:54

Far to weak for the prem and he wanted far to much time on the ball.

  • 10 Ameobisleft foot // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:57

yeah he was a bit crap.
i decided to leave a comment regarding advertising the p2p live football sites. Not sure it is wise. Its great to use it but if its advertised here its only a matter of time before some twt tries to shut it down or put a price on it.

Oh btw KK if your watching - SELL AMEOBI - even if its for 1 pence, along with all the other shite

  • 11 Graham // Mar 26, 2008 at 16:58

With all due respect Ed, not many of our players have looked good enough for the prem this season. Its only in the last couple of months since Keegan arrived have some of the started to produce something like they and we know they can.

Still, i’d sell his sorry arse to the unwashed of Sunderland - then he’d know what being bitter is really like!

  • 12 Craig Allen // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:00

I haven’t forgotten the good games he had so I would like to see him back in NUFC shirt as a squad player. Oh, and before I get chastised let me just add that I’d also like to see Ramage back as a squad player - there — now there’s two boxes of ammunition to chastise with … chastise away hahaha

  • 13 CRAIGG // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:05

To be fair i want Ramage to stay he is better than given Credit for

Not Rozenhal though, it was Sams fault as he dropped Roz and Taylor after the man city match when they had played very well up to that point and neither recovered, Taylor needs a rest and Roz needs to take a running jump.

  • 14 CRAIGG // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:21

Totally off topic but Aaron Hughes is out of contract at Fulham in the summer and if KK wants a back up Right back who can cover across the whole back 4, Doesnt moan about not playing every week, Gives everything, Loves the club and is solid defender then bring the lad back please Kev.

One of the unsung heroes of Sir Bobbys side.

Do you want an ex-Academy Kid who bleeds black and white who never wanted to leave in the first place and gives his all in every match or Brown a Manure reject mercenary who only wants to join to make money and couldnt care about success on the pitch or loyalty.

Hughes and Ramage as well remind me of a Stevie Watson, a Robbie Elliott or a Lee Clark from the kings first reign.

Never be the most talented but they make up with heart, effort and pride.

  • 15 steve // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:33

It’s more likely we’ll have to pay him off - can’t imagine anyone will offer him the wages we’re giving him

  • 16 Graham // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:35

Heart effort and pride never won anything though - well maybe a fight in the big market on a friday night.

We need talent, skill and awareness if we are ever going to get where we all want to be.

  • 17 JJ // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:36

Wont be missed, but we still really need a class CB who is a leader at the back.
I would have loved Woodgate back, but I think I best chance is someone like Sol Campbell or Wes Brown, Distin or maybe Colocini for Deportivo.
Unfortunateky their arnt too many around.
We also need competion for Enrique at left back.

    - Given
    (Harper)
    -Beye Taylor Faye Enrique
    (Ramage) (Edgar) (Taylor) (Edgar)

    - Barton Butt Emre
    (Milner/Geremi) (Barton) (N’Zogbia/Duff)

    Duff
    ( N’Zogbia)

    Owen Viduka
    (Martins) (Carrol)

  • 18 JJ // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:43

We definately dont need, Smith, Ameobi, and Carr. I also believe we should let Emre go because he is too injury prone.
We have five quality strikers and dont need another.
We have two great goal keepers.
We have two good full backs but need cover at left back (Buy no. 1).
I still believe despite good performances recently we could do with a better DM (Buy no.2).
I feel we need a solid defending midfielder on the left alla Gareth Barry (Buy no. 3).
And most importantly a central attacking midfielder alla Kim Kallstrom (Buy no.4).
Finally we need a world class CB (Buy no. 5). Can we attract anyone? Perhaps if we get quality in other areas.

  • 19 cloudstrife // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:50

    CRAIGG

too true about Aaron Hughes. i really liked him when he played for us. could be a cheap fix for right back back-up.

only problem is that that would be another tough hurdle for our youngsters to get through.

  • 20 Tom_Toon // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:51

Gonzalo Pineda is similar to Gareth Barry.

Most if not all mexicans who move to europe usually do well. Hes not the small weak mexican like many are.

  • 21 JJ // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:55

    Summary:

Sell: Smith, Carr (free), Ameobi (2M), Casapa (1M), Duff (3M), Emre (3M). = get in 9Mil.
Buy: Gareth Barry (10M), Wayne Bridge (5M), Alex from Chelsea at CB (6M), Kallstrom (8M), and maybe Carrick or Hargreaves from Man U at (15M). =39M (net spent =30M).

Then it would look like this:

    ———————–Given————————–
    ———————-(Harper)———————–

    Beye——–Alex————–Faye——–Bridge
    (Geremi)–(Taylor)——–(Edgar)—–(Enrique)

    —–Hargreaves——Barton——Barry———
    —–(Milner)———–(butt)——(N’Zogbia)

    ———————- Kallstrom———————
    ———————–(Owen)————————

    —————-Martins———Viduka————-
    —————-(Owen)———-(Carroll)————

Maybe Im being a bit hopeful and the values are estimations but it does make you more positive doesnt it?
We have these player s and the youngers coming though the reserves we wouldnt be miles away form a top four finish.

  • 22 JJ // Mar 26, 2008 at 17:58

Oops I didnt give a fee for Smith, lets say 3Mil

  • 23 Punk Skunk // Mar 26, 2008 at 18:46

I think y’all being a bit harsh with regard to Roz…
…He’s nowhere near as bad as people make out…
Most oversees players need settling in time & to be played in their position, otherwise, what do we expect?..Granted, he moaned in the press, apparently…But they hate us, so why listen to them?..Ultimately, the odd bad game shouldn’t end someones time here!!!..

  • 24 Hadrian // Mar 26, 2008 at 18:49

reports linking us and arsenal with Zdravko Kuzmanovic.
id cream if we landed him :)

  • 25 Hadrian // Mar 26, 2008 at 18:50

punk skunk , no idea how you can say that about rozy , the way he skips around in training is exactly the way he plays on matchday .

  • 26 Leo // Mar 26, 2008 at 18:57

he didnt verbally attack kk… i agree i wouldnt have wanted to sit on the bench, he was good at the start of the season, give him a break if he comes back give him a chance otherwise its yet more money wasted

  • 27 Punk Skunk // Mar 26, 2008 at 19:01

He seemed to play very well in his national team…For a defender i think he’s got a bit of culture, a sweet thru-ball & he gets on the end of corners etc…

  • 28 Gooderz // Mar 26, 2008 at 19:11

I’ve got to agree with getting Hughes back. He could do a solid job for us again, and he’s still only 28 so he really ought to be entering his best years now.

We need some players to have passion and pride for the shirt otherwise we’ll get to ‘lesser’ matches and they won’t turn up. Hughes on a free, and Ramage, could provide cover for the whole defence and leave money available for where we really need it.

  • 29 Punk Skunk // Mar 26, 2008 at 19:12

We as fans have to stop with this: He(whomever?) made one mistake, he’s shit routine!..It’s our duty to hold-fire when judging players…I bet if you went back thru some earlier blogs you’d find that Owen, Viduka, Enrique, Faye, Beye, Taylor etc, etc, etc…Are a disgrace & should never wear the shirt again…Until they do something good, then they kick ass…Get some perspective…Everyone has the odd off-day!..Even Butt & Barton have started to redeem themselves…Hey shit happens!..
    Good as well as bad!..

  • 30 Nomis_jade // Mar 26, 2008 at 19:18

Things are definately starting to pick up with the team and i think all credit has to go to Keegan. I read somewhere, i think it was a jose enrique interview, that under BSA they were playing a different style, with the long ball, and trying to be a difficult team to beat. And he said that under KK this has completely changed. Training has focused more on ball work, buy playing more 11 a side type practise matches, rather than focusing on the physicaal side like sam did.

Im sure if we had stayed with sam long enough he would have got it right, and im still critical that we cannot give a manager a decent run in the hot seat but i think its fair to say we are are much happier with KKs type of football.

Just looking at the last few games, players who had been playing poorly are doing much better and im sure its down to KK. He has obviously told the whole team, to keep it on the deck, particularly Butt who has played faw fewer long balls. At the fulham game you could see players telling one another to calm down and not play the long ball over midfield so much. I really hope we keep up the performance against TOTT.
Also i dont think KK will want to keep michael owen in the deeper role, but he is just working with what players he has, and for the people to say he is tactically crap, i think he was brilliant to spot that michael had that in his game, and he has used it perfectly, at a time when he has little other options.
Finally i really hope he keep martins, he is a brilliant player, and i hope KK gives him the whole 90 mins against Tot. Also Geremi didnt play that bad and like the actim index shows, i almost had 3 assits and a goal to his name. That not bad!

  • 31 Stamford Toon // Mar 26, 2008 at 19:50

Too hard on Roz you lot. He played well for many games, looked comfortable on the ball and his distribution was good. I would prefer him to Taylor for sure. Some of you have short memories. I don’t blame him for saying what he felt about having to play in several positions which were neww to him and he was being judged on those games rather harshly. He has every right to say wehat he felt, he wasn’t slagging off the club, or supporters, just pointing out that he was uncomfortable playing out of position.

  • 32 ObaFan2 // Mar 26, 2008 at 20:37

Calamity James srikes again 1-0 down to France!

  • 33 ToonKing // Mar 26, 2008 at 21:44

man engerland suck no matter who the manager is……..

i just tooned :D in, is Mickey playing ??!

  • 34 ObaFan2 // Mar 26, 2008 at 21:57

MO played second half, not to many chances but no injury by the look of it.

Downing was rubbish second half, good play but cannot deliver a decent cross and how does Wez Brown play for England? He’s an ok player but no where England class imo and Bently wasn’t that good either.

  • 35 andyc290 // Mar 26, 2008 at 22:02

I dont think Roza is as bad as people are making out, he looked like he needed more time to adjust to english game but i think he could become very good if we stick with him. I dont see the problems with what he said , remember he doesnt speak great english so may not realise how strong his comments were. I think Keegan would welcome him back and make the best of him if need be. Even if he is as bad as most of you think - Keegan loves a dodgy defender!

  • 36 Tom_Toon // Mar 26, 2008 at 22:10

ToonKing - We lost to the might Greece, im starting to think they may be our bogey team.

  • 37 ToonKing // Mar 26, 2008 at 22:34

  • 49 Ashton // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:40

Fabio capello is fat sam in disguise because england played the most boring game in a long time !! he was playing with a half striker in a f*&^g friendly match ffs !

    f%#*g italiano twat

  • 50 GP // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:41

    14 Copa America’s too.

  • 51 CRAIGG // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:42

One thing did make me smile about the England match, I was driving and listening to the match and i heard Graham Taylor refferred to as a “Legend” on about four seperate occasions, Maybe in Watford but not anywhere else He will be a turnip for life as far as im concerned.

  • 52 GP // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:44

Be fair Ashton, it’s his second game in charge and it was only a friendly. If England ever want another trophy the manager needs to be given time to learn about his players, which is hard to do at international level. Plus there is the big problem of getting English players to play at the same level as they do for their clubs.

  • 53 CRAIGG // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:49

Can you imagine the press if Fat Sam had got the England job instead of McClaren and Played this side!

  • 54 Tom_Toon // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:51

I see a similarity between Portugal and England, we both have no decent strikers, but at least Portugal’s midfield can play together and we both have good defences.

  • 55 GP // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:55

England need to pick a partner for Rooney and keep at it…although Rooney isn’t a great goal scorer he’s still the best asset England have imo.

Oh, and Portugal don’t need a decent striker with Ronaldo in their team, bloody hell.

  • 56 CRAIGG // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:58

Rooney is a world class striker he needs a Partner who can stay Central though so he can drop deep and move wide.

    ——————Green————
    G.Neville—Ferdinand—Terry —A.Cole
    Bentley—Gerrard—Carrick—J.Cole
    ———–Rooney— Owen———

That would be my first choice, If i was being my usual biased self then Harper, Taylor, Milner and My lad Cahill would be in there

But that is our best team when everyone is fit.

  • 57 Hadji // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:58

No Tom you just have to accept the fact that they’re better than Portugal.I hate Greece if you ask me but having won the last 3/3 games that tells you something.I support Serbia and i wanted Serbia and Portugal to go to Euro 2008 but sometimes football is very cruel sport.
Good luck in the upcoming games Tom.

  • 58 GP // Mar 26, 2008 at 23:59

Taylor isn’t ready and I’m not sure Milner ever will be, at least not as a winger.

  • 59 Tom_Toon // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:00

Hadji, you are saying Greece are better than Portugal or England are better than Portugal?

Greece are not bette than Portugal, neither are England.

  • 60 Tom_Toon // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:00

GP - Ronaldo plays crap when the pressure is on, especially at international.

  • 61 CRAIGG // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:01

I know thats why i didnt include them but i think a few months with KK and Taylor will find his form again and Milners crossing will be a lot better.

  • 62 CRAIGG // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:05

Actually has anyone noticed how Milners crossing from either wing improves in the U21s with Jerome to aim at, The height of our forwards may be the main reason, As i remember him putting some great balls right onto Sibierskis head last season and Who remembers that left foot cross for luques goal against palermo.

  • 63 Tom_Toon // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:08

Its not really Milner’s crossing that annoys me, its his pace, or lack of it.

  • 64 Charlie Bucket // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:12

Anyone know how Zamblera got on for Italy under 19s?

  • 65 CRAIGG // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:20

That is a myth, Wingers dont need pace when did Beckham have pace or Solano incidentally the two all time top assist takers in the Premier Leagues history.

To put the record straight Milner every game ive ever been to he never looks like he lack pace, that is something i first saw on here and everyone seems to have believed it for some reason He certainly is faster than Bentley who is mentioned on here a lot as a signing.

His crossing will improve and the kid will be a star.

  • 66 Hadji // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:21

I was talking about Greece Tom,I mean Portugal according to the players they have they should crush them buut……No comment.
Hey imo Brazil should have lost the game today

  • 67 Tom_Toon // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:22

Bentley has a lethal passing game, same with Solano and Beckham. Bentley is about on par with speed with Milner.

While Milner is stuck in mediocrity with his crossing, passing ad pace (although he has a more than some mentioned before), the one good thing i can say about him is, he somehow makes things happen, so yes he is a good player, but not yet international standard, he could yet improve, lets wait and see.

  • 68 CJ // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:35

What Milner lacks in crossing the ball he makes up for in workrate he is one of the hardest working players in the lge i think he sometimes trys to take his man on too many times then fluffs his crosses.

  • 69 Daniel Petersen // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:42

I hope Roz comes back. We never saw the best of him. He was great last season at PSG. He’s got a little pace (well more so than the rest of our defenders) decent passing, and a good long strike. What Roz needs is a solid defensive partner like he had at PSG with Yepes.

I’m also against this whole idea of dropping huge chunks of the squad and replacing them with new players. If we do that we’ll have another season like this one. I know everyone wants to dump Smith, but he’s a solid squad player. What we need to do is bring in some creativity in the central midfield. That’s what’s killing us. We leak goals because our midfield leave our defenders out to dry. We don’t score goals because there is no service to our forwards. Simple as that.

  • 70 Thomas // Mar 27, 2008 at 0:57

As annoying as Greece may be, they’re defending european champions, unfortunate to say the least

  • 71 joe // Mar 27, 2008 at 3:02

For all we know roz might do a butt. Shit in the first season, sent on loan, then shine in the next season.

  • 72 Vitorbarbosa // Mar 27, 2008 at 3:16

I like Roz. He is calm, good distribution, good in the air, and just lack a bit of strength. I think he know nothing about KK, and that’s why he left.

He is experience, and had play very well for Czech and also for us. I hope to see him back and prove himself. If he can’t, well, it doesn’t matter cause we have so many who can’t perform well in our backline. Adding another to the list won’t make any difference.

  • 73 african-kenyan ronniezog // Mar 27, 2008 at 6:02

this rozehnal should be discarded once and for all

  • 74 AdamCF // Mar 27, 2008 at 7:46

I’m sure everyone has eaten the odd piece of humble pie before.

  • 75 Hadji // Mar 27, 2008 at 8:13

They should try him as a DM

  • 76 Hadji // Mar 27, 2008 at 8:37

There is no reason to sell him at all,you don’t become Checz Republic regular unless you’re good.We should buy a better CB in the summer and then Rozy will realize that he has to put up a big fight to earn his spot.
I think he was playing bad cause he knew his place was cemented in the 1st team.IMO,Rozy should only be a back up player.

  • 77 JJ // Mar 27, 2008 at 8:40

I agree Hadjii, for some reason I see Roz as an excellent DM.
He has good drive and looks to get forward. I also think he has good abiltiy to spot a pass but he does need to add a bit more aggression to his game for the premier league.

However as I said, I really think that if we could get Gareth Barry or Hargreaves in our midfield it would improve us ten fold.
To me, Barry is the most underated player in England. And Hargreaves is like a Nicky Butt butt with more pace and passing abilty.
He hardly plays for Man U??

JJ - Wake up! Neither of those will come to us :)

No chance of Rozenhal having any sort of future at the club now after his outburst against Keegan but he wasn’t good enough anyway. If he’s struggled to prove himself at Lazio as well then that suggests he has no future in the Prem. Get rid I say!

Maybe Gareth Barry but probably not. Besides, we could get a younger, better and cheaper foreign player for that role. Luca Cigarini would be my choice.

Not saying buy them, just saying get someone in their mold.
