Emre Plays Tonight For Newcastle Reserves

Monday March 31st, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 43 Comments

Eme will make his long awaited comeback in the Newcastle Reserves side that will take on Manchester United tonight at St. James’ Park with a 7:00 pm kick off.

Emre
- first game in comeback tonight for the Reserves

The creative Turkish midfielder has been out since February 9th with a calf injury, when he last appeared in the disastrous game at Aston Villa. Emre has been named as a starter in tonight’s game, which is the Reserves last game of the season.

Also playing will be new signing and Senegal captain Lamine Diatta, Peter Ramage and rising young striker Andy Carroll, who came on at the end of the Tottenham game yesterday.

It will be good if Emre can play again for the first team before the end of the season because he is one player who will gain a lot from Kevin Keegan’s attacking style of play.

Certainly almost every other player in the team seems to have started to play much better under Kevin in the last few games. :D

Adam Sadler’s side were well beaten by the Red Devils last week by three goals to one and will be looking for some revenge tonight.

Reserve Team coach Adam Sadler said today:

“We’ve had a great second half to the season and have lost just twice in our last ten games,” “We’ve got a great spirit and that has shown in almost every one of our performances.”

“Now we’ve got the chance to finish our league season on a high at a terrific venue and against great opposition.”

Also playing tonight are some of our young up and coming stars including Fraser Forster, David Edgar, Tamas Kadar, Ben Tozer, James Troisi, Wesley Beheng and Kazenga Lua Lua - so it could be a good game to watch tonight.

Newcastle Reserves: Forster, Ramage, Kadar, Edgar, Diatta, Tozer, Troisi, Emre, Carroll, Ngo Baheng, LuaLua.
Subs: Danquah, Soderberg, Marwood, Morri, Zamblera.

We’ll have a report on the game later today.

Comments welcome.

Great, id love to see emre back in the first team. If he does come back, who should go out? I would prob say geremi but the guy got another assist and a goal yesterday. His actim index rating must have gone up again! But he is pro the gay to take out. Or bring emre on for him in the 2nd half.
Havent had my say on yesterday but i dont really know waht else to add. A great performance.
Great to see oba score, and viduka is still playing class. And now that butt has stopped his long balls he is giving MOM performances. Should beat reading next week, fingers crossed.

  • 2 Egar // Mar 31, 2008 at 16:47

Andy Carroll showed in the 5 minutes he got replacing Michael Owen that he’s capable of holding his own.

  • 3 Nomis_jade // Mar 31, 2008 at 16:58

Also someone mentioned lig milner in the rob lee type attacking midfied role. I think that would be pretty good.

  • 4 Ross // Mar 31, 2008 at 17:14

the game is on mutv tonight apparently..although im hoping none of us pay for that shite.
however on the off chance it could somehow miraculously be free..

  • 5 Swede1891 // Mar 31, 2008 at 17:16

Certainly great to hear that Emre´s fit again!! This will add more class to the side..Would love to see him in the middle instead of Barton or Butt…For me, he´s number 1, a true genious!!

  • 6 spyro // Mar 31, 2008 at 17:20

Emre will have to fight his way back into our current midfield who are all playing class

  • 7 The black in the blacknwhite // Mar 31, 2008 at 17:35

    Harper (solid man)

    Beye Faye Taylor Enrique

    Barton Butt Emre (geremi )

    Owen Duke Oba

i tink that line would be heavy, heavy heavy

did anyone notice how bouncy the king was in the interview yesterday- Bouyant!!

thye players feel him- a decent shift for the boys against reading at ST james should be a good game

    fingers crossed!

  • 8 Bill F // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:04

Don’t know if it has already been mentioned (I’M sure it has) but was it Ashley wearing the King Kev Shirt. Has he ditched the Smith one.

    Sign of the times?

Bet there is a big crowd tonight for a reserve game.

Who is in the ManU lineup.

  • 9 Charlie Bucket // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:14

I would like to see us sign one or two young central midfielders in the summer because whenever I see the reserve lineup I see defenders, winger and strikers but no central midfielders. OK in this case Emre is playing but normally it seems like 5 defenders 3 wingers and 2 strikers outfield.

  • 10 spyro // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:15

one or two young central midfielders you say…Biglia and Cigarini

  • 11 Charlie Bucket // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:20

Tell me more about those two players, I have to admit I’ve never heard of them

  • 12 el rob // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:24

    kun aguero…………

summer signing. you knwo it makes sense.
    vamos atleti

  • 13 Tom // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:25

i think emre should go straight back in. 9 out of 10 geremi corners are wayward and he was just a tad fortunate with that freekick. emre can pass better, cross better, shoot better, and should balance the midfield out a bit more instead of playing 3 right footers.

  • 14 ehssi // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:40

is it some channels who send this match?

  • 15 ehssi // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:44

yes, BILL F; Mike Ashely had the King KEV shirt yesterday ;). he has burnt the smith shirt :P.

  • 16 Spot The Zebra // Mar 31, 2008 at 18:50

Im sure Keegan would like to see all his first teamers fit so he can judge exactly whats needed for next season.Emre could be another player who improves considerably under Kevins management.
Out of the young lads playing tonight i reckon Carroll and Edgar are just about ready to play first team football now. This may have influenced Keegan in announcing he only needs 3 or 4 quality additions to his squad this summer knowing these two can step up to the mark if required.
Out of the rest id say Krul, Forster, Kadar and Lua Lua will be pushing for a regular first team appearances in a year or two.
Thats possibly six to supplement the 3 or 4 signings lined up for this close season which should see Keegan with a strong squad to chose from.

  • 17 vEn`SG // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:04

i’m glad emre’s back in action.
but he shld wait/earn his place cos the team is playing very well now.

anyone who drops in performance , then emre shld feature.

  • 18 Charlie Bucket // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:10

We are now being linked with Jermain Beckford from Leeds. Anyone reckon he’d be any good?

  • 19 King Kev-4-3-3 // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:15

charlie bucket- thats just press making up crap again,i also think he will end up at bolton in the championship next year.

  • 20 Tom_Toon // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:25

KK said 3-4 signings so id go for:

RB - Gokhan Gonul (Edgar can play at LB and Carr is shite so how is LB more of a priority?)
CB - Alex of Chelsea - He isnt playing and is frustated, threat in the air, takes free kicks well, can dribble out of defence and is commanding.
CM - Jonathan de Guzmna - Scores goals, he is a set piece specialist, has pace and gule from the centre of midfield.
ST - Cisse - Tall and strong but very quick.

  • 21 Charlie Bucket // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:29

Djibril Cisse was rubbish at Liverpool. The only reason he looks good now is because he’s playing in France. If he came to England again he’d be just as bad.

Same with Baros. Plays badly for Liverpool and Villa then goes to France, looks good and all of a sudden he’s hot property again.

Baros was crap in France and he was playing for Lyon where he gets great service.

  • 24 CRAIGG // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:55

KK will want as many proven Premiership players He Should buy:

    Shaun Wright-Phillips
    Michael Carrick
Aaron Hughes (on a Free at the end of the season)
    Djibril Cisse
    Gonzalo Rodriguez (Worth the risk)
    Wayne Bridge
    Stewart Downing

  • 25 CRAIGG // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:58

    Out should go:

    Smith
    Carr
    Ameobi
    Rozenhal
    Cacapa
Geremi (2 games dont outweigh the drivel all season)
    Duff

  • 26 Charlie Bucket // Mar 31, 2008 at 19:59

Djibril Cisse is NOT a proven Premier League player! He’s a proven Premier League flop!

If you guys want to laugh at a guy with stupid hairstyles we should just keep Smith!

  • 27 CRAIGG // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:09

Ok Cisses not proven but he was harshly treated at liverpool Benitez kept playing him on the right wing, And has every attribute to be a huge success in the premiership.

Is it annoying how Drogba gets used in the same vein as Shearer, Van Nistelrooy and Henry. All top notch trikers who were amazing virtually every season they played in the premiership.

Drogba has had 2 good seasons in his long career 1 at Marseille and 1 at Chelsea after 2 abysmal seasons, He is so overrated its painful , If he was that great he would have been picked for the french national side like Vieira, Makelele and Thuram all of which were born outside of France but were raised there and have french citizenship the same as drogba.

Drogba is not fit to lick the boots of Shearer.

  • 28 Charlie Bucket // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:13

    Reserves drew 1-1

S Evans (1) for Manchester United

    Emre (25) for Newcastle

Baheng and one of their players got sent off late on for a skirmish.

Anyone think we may have been sold a dud?

  • 29 nufc1892 // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:23

We should only let go 2-3 players. We should add to the squad so we can have some flexibility in the squad unlike picking on bare bones all the time. The players atm, could become useful squad players/reserve, then we’ll have a much stronger squad, more options to chose from etc and that why we’d look alot better, with the added quality with the summer signings included aswell….

  • 30 Tripp // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:26

Baheng as scored goals recently, including the drawing goal at the death against Bolton. There’s been nothing in his performances to suggest he’s a dud, at least based on what’s been posted here. I’ve never actually seen him play (I’m in the States, so I don’t get to too many NUFC Reserves games :p)

  • 31 Charlie Bucket // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:30

Diatta and Ramage must be very close to match fitness now! That’s only one goal conceded this week…

  • 32 mikeygd // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:40

i think if u were to put emre in the team u wud have to play him in owens role if u wana stick with the same formation thats doing so well and i think owen is playing it too well for him to get a sniff. The 3 midfields have to be geremi butt and barton for it to work IMO unless u push owen up front and drop martins to let emre in which i dont think is a good idea either, lets be fair we all love emre but i dont see the point changing things when it appears to be working well

  • 33 JP from The Rock of Gibraltar // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:55

Tom Toon- I like your targets…all that’s needed there is our new Solano. WE NEED A NEW SOLANO !!!!!!!!!!!! I love Milner because he always gives 110%, he’s still young and has skill and scores the odd blinders. BUT…ever since we sold Nobby Solano we’ve been lacking creativity and quality balls flying into the box. We need a great crosser of the ball who is young and quick and NOT injury prone! I haven’t got a clue at the moment but I bet we could find at least one.

  • 34 mikeygd // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:57

    david bentley?

  • 35 johnr // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:58

We dont all love Emre. No chance of getting into the side now. Has never impressed me and is never going to be consistent in the EPL. At best, a decent sub if youre chasing a game.

  • 36 mikeygd // Mar 31, 2008 at 20:59

    Andres Guardado ?

  • 37 Leo // Mar 31, 2008 at 21:12

i was at the game tonight, was great fun, never been to a reserve game before, really enjoyed it. was excelent.

    Forster- was commanding

Ramage- looked composed but didnt attack the space that was left infront of him alot of the time even with the security of edgar being dmf

Kadar- looked really good, im real impressed with him, he doesnt look his age, he reminds me of the guy in superbad, the man from the film juno (no i havnt seen the film just the adverts haha)

Edgar- really commanding in defencive midfield, good distribution and stopped alot of their attacks from going through the center.

Diatta- looked strong composed great with his head, just hope that he can be so strong in the first team beause him and faye together would be a strong partnership at some point.

Tozer- played center half and looked good on the ball composed, got caught out a few times and diatta managed to pull him out of trouble, to be fair when diatta made a mistake tozer was right there to sweep up the mistake

Troisi- my sister thought he was fantastic, she must have fancied him. haha… looked strong wasnt confided to the right wing he roamed and did well to set up the goal

Emre- played well with the ball great distrution and made some good freekicks and through balls. but seems to make rash tackles which may lead to suspensions

Carroll- only missed 2 headers the whole match, he was being marked constantly because they couldnt contend with his height and ability to direct the ball

Ngo Baheng- STAR MAN- until he got sent off for what i dont know. he was good on the ball lots of running in him, he looked a real threat for us

LuaLua- great little runner he done neville on soo many occasions, just out paced him out skilled him and looked really good.

am knackered now from all that. hope that gives some people an idea of what the game was like.

  • 38 CRAIGG // Mar 31, 2008 at 21:20

It will be interesting when Emre and Milner come back to see what KK does, i think both could play in the 433. We played this system at Reading last season with Milner, Parker and Emre with Sibierski in Owens deep lying striker role and i thought we played well by obviously this was last season and we lost by the odd goal.

    ———————Harper——————————
    ——-Beye- -Taylor– Faye- -Enrique————
    ———-Milner— Barton— Emre—————–
    ———–Owen—-Viduka—-Martins————-

Butts played a lot of games and despite the fact that he has played well for the last few games still maybe will be rested when Milner and Emre come back, Geremi also has had a good couple of games but in my opinion the bad far outweigh the good and he would still be dropped and sold, He still wastes every set piece opportunity as well, Barton is out of the Everton game anyway.

  • 39 CRAIGG // Mar 31, 2008 at 21:22

Leo where did Ramage play right back ?

  • 40 CRAIGG // Mar 31, 2008 at 21:26

The thing i dont get with the reserves is Tozer playing Centre back and Kadar playing Left back, I thought Tozer was a natural left back and Kadar was happier a centre back.

  • 41 Leo // Mar 31, 2008 at 21:42

i think the reason tozer came to newcastle over the other teams who were watching him was because he would be given a chance to play center back rather than left back. kadar apparntly is happy either positions.

ramage looked ok, he could have exploited their space alot more but to be fair he was looking for a pass in front of him and it was never forthcoming, i guess hes like me not liking to be up the field unless he either has the ball of is running to meet the ball from a through ball.

overall on ramage a bit rusty but getting there.

  • 42 CRAIGG // Mar 31, 2008 at 21:48

I like Ramage i think he gets some unwarrented stick hes not great but Carr and Babayaro have taught me to appreciate Ramages heart and abilities down to their personal lack of both.

Its good that Tozer and Kadar can both play Left and Centre back. I didnt know that Tozer liked playing centre half i knew he could play there but i thought he was a left back.

    Cheers for the info.

  • 43 spyro // Apr 1, 2008 at 2:25

    Charlie Bucket

Biglia is a deep laying playmaker much like Pirlo, he plays for Anderlecht and is a very young promising CM who seems to be off of everyones radar at the moment.

Cigarini is a young Italian player much like Biglia, very similar to Pirlo. Also, just like Biglia he is comfortable with both feet and both players are around 21 i THINK both play for their national U-21 teams, Argentina and Italy. not sure though.

I named both these players as they are the type of players that provide killer passes, but at the same time are fully capable of protecting the back four. There are many other young players emerging like this (Flamini, Veloso, Dessena etc) but i named these two as i feel these two players are realistic targets for us.
