It was a great day for new Newcastle coach Chris Hughton yesterday, as Newcastle easily defeated his former team by four goals to one.

49 year-old Chis had his family at the game yesterday, and the performance and win must have made him feel very proud of his new club.
Hughton said:
“Right from early doors, I had a good feeling.†“You can have that good feeling, and the opposition can score goals out of nothing, but I thought we were worthy winners, and the style of our play was also important.â€
“They don’t lose many games here, and they generally play very well here.†“They won’t lose many games here full stop, but they were beaten by a team that was better than them on the day.â€
“Probably the most pleasing thing was the performance. I don’t think anybody could look at that performance and say the scoreline flattered us.â€
“We also missed three very, very good chances. Although Spurs put us under pressure at times, they didn’t have the quality of chances that we did.”
Hughton felt that Spurs’ manager Jaunde Ramos’ formation left Tottenham a little short in midfield, where Michael Owen had dropped back to give Newcastle a man advantage.
Chris added:
“They’re guaranteed Europe next season, and although they want to finish as high up the league as they can, probably a priority for (Ramos) is to assess what he’s got here, and I suppose there will be some experimentation.â€
“If I look at the way they played, tactically, it’s not normal for them to play that way.†“Generally, when you’ve got Berbatov, Bent and Keane on the pitch at the same time, it’s when they’ve made a change. They don’t normally start that way.â€
“There’s no doubt that with the formation they had out, if they get it right, they can have a very good day, but I think we just got amongst them.†“We came here with a lot of confidence, and played the same way from start to finish.”
This win certainly augers well for the future at Newcastle. These last three games have been a joy to watch, and show just how well our players are starting to play. Kevin has kept saying the squad is full of quality, but until the last three games that hasn’t been too easy to see.
But the lads are playing with a confidence now, that they’ll go into any game thinking they can win. Roll on Reading at the weekend, because that’s the next game we need to win.
We need to secure all three points against our fellow relegation strugglers, just whichever way we can, because that will surely make us safe for the season.
And maybe we can just end this season on a really positive note. That’s the very least the faithful Newcastle fans deserve.

Im just thinking about the story the other day about Steve Round maybe going to Everton and who we could replace him with.
KK has his allies from his previous clubs and England namely- Aurthur Cox, Terry McDermott, Peter Beardsley, Derek Fazackerley and Les Reed
We have Aurthur and Terry Mac here already
with Chris Hughton and Paul Barron (Who may leave) and we must get Beardsley home.
Fazackerley despite i imagine KKs efforts has a long term Contract at man city so that leaves Les Reed who i think was sacked by Fulham when Roy Hodgson took over so is available and is still friends with KK who will want a training ground coach as opposed to Cox, McDermott and Beardsley who are behind the scenes guys.
Reed despite what a tit he is and his pathetic eforts at Charlton is an Experienced FA trained hands on training ground coach, So would KK really do that to us bring Les Reed to Newcastle??

I think the relegation fight is over for us, we are 9 points ahead of Bolton with 6 games to be played, but if we keep playing like that we can get a respectable mid table position.

Chris Houghton can take credit for the way our defence is actually looking like a defence.
Beye, Faye, Taylor and especially Enrique are starting to show defensive qualities. Qualities we have not seeen for many a year.
We did very well to stop Berbatov and Keane..

I think Round and Hughton have to take credit for our Defensive improvements and it is essential we keep them here long term.

I reckon you are probably right Valle, although there is no scope for complacency. Another win at the weekend and KK could perhaps start some of the young bloods in the team.
Tonights game looks like it could be a cracker love to be able to see it.

Why do we need a(nother) comedian as a coach? I always felt he was overated anyway. Or am I thinking of the wrong bloke.

It may be that Chris Hughton has made our defense look solid but i can remember when Nigel Pearson first came in and our defense performed well for a few games people said the same about him and our defense was still shit.

The reason why the defence look great is due to the attacking play we are in. Opponents will spend more time attacking and there will be lesser pressure for our defence. Our defence is still capable of conceeding goals when under pressure but I LIKE OUR ATTACKING APPROACH THAT WE WILL SCORE MORE THAN YOU. Haha. But credit must give to our defence which I have seen a vast of improvement and confidence in our play.

hughton to be fair isnt our defencive coach. he was a defender yes, but he is not ‘defence coach’ he has been helping steve round to do that, who is still learning, chris is more of a rounded coach than a specific

CJ has got a decent point but i think hughton has enough technical know how to be apart from Pearson. Hughton has worked unders some class managers and from what i hear from some mates who are spurs fans, he’s got good technical know how. Lets hope with Keegans man management and enthusiasm for the game plus our good back room staff this is turn around time for us and we can get a respectable table postion with a late push, then i pray back to European spot next season.
