In the first thirty minutes on Saturday we thought the Newcastle team was a little lackadaisical, and were a little lucky not to concede a goal before Oba Martins nicely put away our first goal.

Mark Viduka - happy he got the best goal of the three on Saturday
It turns out at half-time that Kevin thought the team was only operating around 80% of what they could produce.
Keegan told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I said to the players at half-time, and again at full-time, that I thought we were only at about 80% from what we could have been.â€
“That was still very good, and very exciting.†“There was some really good passing, and I think the third goal just about summed it up.”
“That was a fantastic goal by anybody’s standards.â€
But Newcastle will have to be at 100% of their capabilities on Saturday if we are to get all 3 points away at Portsmouth, who will have their tails up after reaching the final of the FA Cup.
That will be a good test for us and will give the fans some idea of just how good the team is these days, as we look forward to some significant strengthening of the squad in the summer.
Comments welcome.

Maybe Viduka can persuade his second cousin Modric to join our club.

Reckon we should beat Portsmouth, They’re now 9 points behind Everton so unlikely to get UEFA spot and are more likley to be concentrating on not getting injured for FA Cup final ( I hope)
They’ve looked pretty poor over the last few games so I’m going for a 2-1 win

It will be a difficult game against portsmouth though. They’re setup very defensively in my opinion, always seem to play 5 across the midfield. But considering they have Defoe nowadays who can only play in the league games, maybe they’ll play 2 up top against usto keep Defoe happy and playing! Either way, our 3 man midfield will have there work cut out against Kranjcar, Diarra, Diop and Muntari!

23 Leo // Apr 7, 2008 at 23:34
further to what i was saying ealier, i was following the score of the stoke crystal palace match where shola ameobi was playing a whole game, he wasnt even mentioned in the write up of the game on sky sports… and the players rating was at 5.1…
he is coming home at the end of the season i guess haha
24 maggpie // Apr 8, 2008 at 10:16
I’ve felt for a long time that Shola won’t even stand out in the Championship, and sadly I think he’s quickly going to prove me right.
