It’s getting to be that time of the season when Newcastle United will be linked with every player that’s available on the planet.

Mbarek Boussoufa - Aderlecht’s Morrocan winger
Today we are linked with a couple of players – one of which looks really good in Real Madrid’s big German defender Christoph Metzelder.
Another player that we’re supposedly interested in and reported today by the Daily Mail is Anderlecht winger Mbarek Boussoufa, so let’s take a look at the player and see if he’ be any good at Newcastle.
Morocco’s international footballer, Mbarek Boussoufa won the “Soulier d’Or 2006″ that is Belgian soccer’s player of year award. The Anderlecht striker, who is 22, was awarded the title in January as a result of a poll of journalists and former players.
Boussoufa had last year received the best goal scorer award in Belgium and he is the first North African to win the Belgian best player award. Mbarek Boussoufa has also been selected as MTNfootball.com’s Rising Star in African Football for 2006.
Boussoufa was the comfortable preference for voters over other candidates – Asamoah Gyan, Emmanuel Eboue, Salomon Kalou and Obinna Nsofor – and his choice was made mainly on the strength of his performances in the Belgium league for AA Gent.
Mbarek Boussoufa moved to Belgian champions Anderlecht on the strength of his performances at AA Gent, and he picked up the Golden Boot award for the highest goal scorer in Belgium last year.
Here’s some highlights of the player.
Comments very welcome.

would rather have farfan
3 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 9, 2008 at 11:50
he looks good, reminds me alot of lennon, but with an end product.
4 Plex // Apr 9, 2008 at 11:59
Please buy this player, I no what will happen. We will leave him for next year and someone else will snatch him and he will become another great player.

If we’re talking midfielders, and I apologise this being off the subject slightly, there’s reports that Everton may not re-sign Pienaar.
I know we’ve got a small team as it is. but I think he’s class, if he’s be happy to work in a squad rotation system then he’d be a brilliant signing, see also Jimmy Bullard.

Thanks for supplying the vid Ed. Great idea.
He looks decent. You can’t translate form from the Belgian League to the Premiership, but skillwise he seems adept and has the arrogance that wingers need.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a black and white shirt.
7 HeronMag // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:10
Oh and as for Pienaar good call Mr T.
Definitely. He’s been outstanding for Everton. Begs the question though - Why is Moyes letting him go…? He’s no fool.
8 OnlyOneUnited // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:11
Aye, Looks good like.
9 scottish mag // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:12
looks quality, left and right footed can play on either side and upfront, very versatile, he has a good strike, immense crossing and a class freekick, he is quick, tricky. brilliant lets get him now, only bad thing is he goes to ground a bit easy sometimes but he looks like world class in the making
10 Mr T // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:25
I can’t see the video, but I’ve seen videos where Lee Dong Gook looked good, and we all know how that ended up!
I wouldn’t get too excited about it gents.
and HeronMag, fair point, Moyes is certainly no mug! but…. but as you also said, he has been class, it might be the money Dortmund want for him? I’d still have him in a flash anyway.

what a player he his best crosser of a ball ive seen for a long while both feet aswel and a goal scorer hes a bit on the light side but a few yorkshire puddings will sort that out
12 YongMalaysia // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:32
he was quality player, just a bit small size. will he suit to EPL?
13 Darryl // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:38
SWP, Lennon.. they all fit in the premier league, no reason this guy cant. Got all the attributes of these.
14 Leo // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:45
pienaar has a minimum release clause which makes him only cost 2.2million pounds, but it has to be agreed before 30april.
would a good purchase for that money being he is only 22 but is another ACN hopeful
15 Leo // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:47
seen that garay doesnt care which club comes in for him its only a matter of the amount of money….
maybe he wouldnt be such a good signing after all…

Hi Everyone … How about a bid for Rafael van der Vaart from Hamburg SV, he moved there for €5.5m. Id love it, just LOVE IT if he wore the black and white of Newcastle United. What a playmaker he would be!!! Slap £9 million down and see what happens? theres a video of this exploits here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEv3_scI0hc

also i notice now that keegan has had a change or clothing on the banner… good work whoever did that…
18 Tom_Toon // Apr 9, 2008 at 13:16
Boussoufa is good, van Basten tried to get him to play for Holland, same as Kalou, but he declined.
19 Zx // Apr 9, 2008 at 13:24
This fella looks good. Quick, good at set-piece and crosses well. Can also get past defenders. Can’t believe that he is a Chelsea reject.
20 Toon1978 // Apr 9, 2008 at 13:37
If we can sign this young kid and keep the likes of N’Zogbia and we have Taylor, Milner, Carrol and the quality we have brought in from January ie the Italian kid from Atalanta who scored the other day by the way, Tozer, the goal keeper we signed and Kadar the future wil look extremely bright along with the more senior additions we make in the summer maybe we are in for some quality times again look up not down he we come lol.
21 Bill F // Apr 9, 2008 at 14:12
Must admit he does look good, A few minor criticisms, got to work on his celebration routine, doesn’t score with every shot and even Ameobi might look good in the Belgium league (sorry Belgium fans). Worth a punt though.
22 Bob // Apr 9, 2008 at 14:16
Great technique, good pace, good end product.
A diving cheat as well but all of the top four have at least one or two so we might as well get our own.
Why did he fail at Ajax? Was it an attitude problem or…?
PS: Cheers for the link Ed!
23 cg // Apr 9, 2008 at 14:38
Falls over too easily for my liking but inarguably excellent technique.
24 Whumpie // Apr 9, 2008 at 15:01
Just need to know one thing: what is his cross completion ratio? That’s one thing we’ve been sorely missing since the Nobster left. If he can keep consistently and accurately putting them on Viduka/Carrol’s head then he’s worth a punt.
Also, is he going to just sulk the first time a premiership defender like Huth hits him like a rock-covered truck?
25 azim // Apr 9, 2008 at 15:14
i think we need to buy 6 players..
1 LB .. Bridge
1 CB Metzelder
1 RW Bentley
2 AM Modric/Moutinho and Bullard
1 CF Henry/ Kuyt/ Ashton
and kick out
Rozehnal, Carr,Ameobi, Smith, Emre
with this squad we can challenge the top4
26 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 15:18
If we try for any neverton players they should be Cahill &/or Arteta…& moyes may not be a mug(subjective!) but he is a mugger (neverton!..& he stole Irvine from us)…& he’s got big googley eyes, scarey!..
27 Toon Al // Apr 9, 2008 at 15:45
he looks good but would rack up a canny few yellow card for divin in our league in his first season he goes down softly
28 KKN39 // Apr 9, 2008 at 16:00
seems a great player - primarily right foot but his left still capable of great things, quick, tricky, creative. can play winger on either flanks or the 3rd striker in 433. cheaper than but similar kind of player to Simao, Quaresma and McGeady. get him to replace Duff OR Zog. snap up Arshavin as well then we are well stocked with skilful and pacy wingers / strikers / AM who may turn things around against any team at any time in a 442 or 433 or even 4231 formation …
29 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 16:19
AM=Pandev or Ribery?..
30 chuck // Apr 9, 2008 at 16:27
Seems a knowledgeable contributing group here ,I have been impressed by the awareness and choices, hope the gaffer reads reads these comments. Though I am sure he is well aware of the talents available , it`s just scarey when one reads that we are associated with such players as Pennant and the likes, but guess we all have our yeas and nays as to who to buy.
31 Bob // Apr 9, 2008 at 16:34
No chance at all of getting Ribery who is easily one of the best players in the world right now….
32 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 16:48
Hey Bob, y’never know, KK may well pull off a couple of excellent transfers?..& he must have a few German contacts from his Hamburg days…
…He would be a great signing tho’, huh?..
33 toonoholic // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:04
why the hell was this kid a chelsea reject ? anyone ?
34 Tom_Toon // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:06
He probably wasnt a reject, just that they got a suitable offer for him and he wanted to move. Few player say from their youth clubs. He was Chelsea captain for their youth aswell.
And he wasnt a reject at Ajax, chelsea just paid a fair bit for him.
35 Bob // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:08
RE: Punk Skunk
He would, without doubt. But, although I admire your optimism, let’s be a little realistic here.
Ribery is one of the most highly-rated players in the world and if he becomes available there will be a stampede for his signature.
36 Bob // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:09
Cheers Tom Toon for clearing that up.
37 toonoholic // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:12
tom toon , you make me look as if i am 17 !
38 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:18
Hey Bob, but he still went to ’some german outfit’ for relatively small money didn’t he?..
…So…
39 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:20
& outta the players i’ve put forward, he’s the most ‘optimistic’ choice!..
40 Tom_Toon // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:22
Punk, if you called 25 million euros small money and Bayern Munich a small club!
41 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:28
What’s 25m euros…£15m, that’s relatively small for a player of his class…& surely, if everyone would wanna buy him, y’d think ‘big’ english, italian, spanish clubs before german, any day of the week???..
…& i never said bayern were small, just the price…’Relatively’!..
42 Tom_Toon // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:28
Not bayern munich, they are a class of their own.
43 Obafan // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:31
Boussoufa played a fantastic season 2 years ago when he played for Gent. A club in Belgium who end in the top 6 every year. A club where nothing is necessary.
Because of that season he was in the spotlight of the Belgian giants
(Anderlecht and Bruges).
He went to Anderlecht.
Last season Anderlehct had a fantastic year in which Boussoufa often scored. The players who made Anderlecht that strong were Biglia and Hassan. They won the league and Boussoufa was topscorer.
This season Anderlehct has shown 2 faces; the first half of the season they were awful (6th) now they are already 2nd Standard will be champion and Boussoufa like the other players are playing good.
But I think Boussoufa is not a player to play in the EPL. I defo think there are other young players who would be better to add to this squad.
44 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:32
Possibly?..But a german one!..4th/5th ‘best’ league in euroland?..
…You must admit, there’s something in what i say?..
45 Bob // Apr 9, 2008 at 17:57
Forgive me if my maths is wrong…
25m euro = £20m (0.8 exchange rate)
Bayern Munich are traditionally one of Europe’s strongest clubs and spent a boatload this year with almost guaranteed silverware in the UEFA Cup and are expected to win all other domestic silverware.
Although Ribery impressed many clubs, no-one was willing to pay the money that Marseille asked for.
46 macn0ble // Apr 9, 2008 at 19:28
Hell yeah, lads technique is outstanding. Suppose he wouldn’t be too xpensive..
47 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 19:47
it may be worth £20m today, but was closer to £15m last year!..Everyone knows french clubs charge/ask too much for players, so therefore ‘No-one’ thought he was worth the money last year, that kinda negates the discussion then, doesn’t it?..
A bit like celtic/rangers in scotland, who are bayern up against in germania?..
48 Tom_Toon // Apr 9, 2008 at 19:51
Bremen, Hamburg, Schalke, Suttgart and Leverkusen! All top sides.
49 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 20:14
It’s a rhetorical question bro’, i know who plays in germany…Not exactly pushing bayern year in year out are they?..
& basically, still 4th/5th ‘best’ league in europe!..
50 Tom_Toon // Apr 9, 2008 at 20:36
they are actually.
51 Punk Skunk // Apr 9, 2008 at 20:49
Well last year…They’re still not giants in europe mate, no matter what y’say…Granted, bayern are, but we’re talking about their opposition & it’s blatently because the others aren’t that bayern are, if y’get my drift?..
…It’s very rare that any of the others get to the later stages of the champs league, isn’t it?..
…I’m not sayin’ german teams are pap, they’re not…But you said y’self, bayern are gonna win everything in germany (again) this season, ’nuff said!?!..
52 DC Magpie // Apr 10, 2008 at 2:40
Guys, Everton are the only club who have a 2.2M buy clause with Dortmund. I’d say if they don’t think he’s worth that much then we should stay away.
53 will // Apr 11, 2008 at 0:15
not particularly impressive. dives a lot i notice but good with the ball. decision making qualities look very suspect though and i could see him being frustrating.
