Harry Redknapp has guided Portsmouth to the FA Cup final, and still insists he has no regrets about turning down the Newcastle United job he was offered in January.
Harry Redknapp - a good man and an excellent manager
In fact Redknapp thinks Newcastle finally appointed the right man for the job in Kevin Keegan:
“Newcastle were absolutely spot on when they brought Kevin Keegan back as their manager,” “I for one was pleased to see him come back, and without a doubt he’s the right man for the job up there. He’s a top man and a good man.â€
“I’m delighted the results have picked up for him and his team.†“There’s no doubt that Newcastle United’s a great club, and if I was honest, under Kevin they’re probably the best bet to challenge the top four in the next couple of seasons.”
â€Obviously, I had the chance to go up there, but I’ve always said I have no regrets about my decision to stay at Portsmouth, which is also a fine club, even before we got to the FA Cup final.â€
“I love my life down here, especially with my family, and it was no good me being up there, and my wife and six grandchildren being down here in Portsmouth.”
“It’s not often a team can go up to Newcastle, play like that and get a result, as it’s always a difficult place to go.”
Portsmouth of course scored 3 goals in the first 11 minutes t to humiliate Newcastle last November by a final score of 4-1.
That was one of the worst performances by a Newcastle team at St. James’ Park for a long time and is one reason why our boys need to put on an extra good display tomorrow.
If we can play to our best at Fratton Park, there’s no reason why we cannot seal our 4th win in a row, and that’s what the Newcastle players are certainly after tomorrow.
We think it should be a great game to watch, since there is no doubt Harry has built a very good team on the south coast.

Harry Redcrap is still flogging that old lie that he turned us down. He was interviewed and that was as far as it went. He had to get Joe Allon to drive him up because he did not know where he was going. Sort him and his team out on Saturday lads - he ows us four.

I would love to turn Admiral Akbar and his boys over this weekend… but in honestly it’s going to be tough. There a good side and very diffcult to beat!

exactly ross .. i never wanted redknapp anyways tbh too similar to fat sam with doing well with a so called smaller club then probably failing with a so called bigger club. who else was there? hughes never wanted him .. shearer too early still he’ll get his chance eventually. always wanted KK from the start never thort we could get him mind but yes lets hope KK is perfect for us.

Aidrian Durham said recently on Talk Sport that ‘pound for pound Harry is the best premiership manager’.
IMO he’s the most overhyped one - he’s 60+ been in football management, at a guess, 30 years and won nowt! Yes he’s bought some good players in in this time but he’s bought some duds.

Let’s return to the specific question Newcastle Chairman Chris Mort was asked in early February:
Q: Was Harry Redknapp offered the manager’s job at Newcastle United?
A: NO. He was interviewed for the job but was only one of a number of people we were speaking to at that time.
Let’s just nail this down once and for all:
Redknapp suggested as possible candidate, agrees to meet to discuss vacancy, is removed from the list of candidates after that meeting, then goes on Sky Sports News with the Portsmouth Chairman to say:
“I’ve had a great offer, to manage a fantastic club like Newcastle. It was a terrific opportunity…But I’m happy here…this is where I enjoy being, this is my club, it would be too big a wrench to leave here.”
Since when did thanks, but no thanks constitute an offer - great or otherwise?
So everybody’s happy: Pompey are in the FA Cup Final and ‘Arry stayed put in ‘Ampshire - not having been offered the chance to go anywhere else. Thankfully.

I totally agree with all those who say we didnt want harry anyway.And who gives a fook if he has got portsmouth to the cup final……….He should be there with who has been left in it anyway..
