Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan said today that Emre is making decent progress with his sprained ankle, but he will not be fit for the game against Sunderland on Sunday.
Emre - injury record is very poor
Emre has actually been out injured now since February 9th, and a couple of weeks ago made an abortive come-back in a reserve game against Manchester United at St. James’ Park, when he was injured again in the first half. To say that Emre is injury prone is to greatly understate the situation.
Emre’s never played for the first team for over 9 weeks, and he last appeared in a Newcastle shirt against Aston Villa at Villa Park, as a sub in the 75th minute, when we were thrashed 4-1.
It turns out that Emre is the only player in the current Newcastle squad to have scored a winning goal for Newcastle against Sunderland, when he scored in the 3-2 victory at St James’ Park two seasons ago, with a free kick, when manager Graeme Souness was still in charge.
Keegan told the Evening Chronicle today:
“Both Emre and Claudio Cacapa are doing light training with a view to coming back in the next 10 days.” “Stephen Carr’s fit now, so maybe he just needs another half a game. He had half a game the other day.”
“Peter Ramage is back fit again, but it’s a difficult time for players coming back from long-term injuries, because there’s no reserve games.” “We have only the Northumberland Cup final with Blyth Spartans at St James’ Park next Wednesday night.”
Since Ramage’s contract runs out in June it’s going to be difficult for Keegan to decide whether to extend his contract, since Kevin has never seen him play in the first team. We think it will be easier for him to decide on Stephen Carr, who is past it, and in any case is always out injured.
The club must look at players’ injury records, before they bring them to the club, because a footballer’s worth to the club has to be based on the number of games he is available each season, as well as his playing ability and skills. That’s just common sense, but we have too many players who are continually injured, it seems to us.
Players like Carr and Emre are unavailable an awful lot because they always pick up niggly little injuries, which severely restrict their playing time.

Lads, be fair to Emre.
He works his socks off when he’s fit. He is one of the players I would think about selling, don’t get me wrong, but he’s never shirked his duties on the pitch.
His fitness record is appauling though. I’d expect a lot of improvement from Emre when fit, or show him the door.

Shame - talented player who has shown only a fraction of his skills.
I just hope he is allowed to work on his fitness this summer, so he can comeback next season and show what he can do.
If he can - then we could save 8m in transfers….

He has got the potential to be a star, but he is constantly injured. It is very rare if he plays 4 games in a line.
If he could stay and he can get fully fit, we will have a real quality player in our squad. But how mch longer will they (board and manager) be patient on this one???

I think if he can get fit over the summer and put his injuries behine him he can be a class creative midfielder for us. He would thrieve on the left in a three man midfield.
Just look at Owen when he was contantly injured loads of people were saying get rid!! But he has come back and shown his class under King Kev. I hope to see a different Emre next season under King Kev. Better attacking football will let Emre produce his best.
If he can’t stay fit or produce some form them sell him next Jan.

There is so much bollocks talked about Emre - his skill / world class etc. Someone above saying he ‘works his socks off’.
Honestly I’ve watched football for over 40 years and seen lots of his games (all at SJP and a few away). He’s idle, doesn’t close down - shocking tackler - he gives lots of foul away because he’s a crap tackler and therefore gets injured.
He can thread a good pass - but can anyone say they have seen him ‘run a game from midfield’ / dominate midfield / grab a game by the scruff of the neck.
Get rid ASAP - we’ll see how world football views him by all the offers we get to buy him. We’ll be luck to get back what we paid £3.2 m and he must be on big wages. Waste of space!!
Get real people, the guy cannot hold a light to Nobby / Peter the Great and a few others we’ve had who truely deserve praise.

i like emre think without him allardyce would of been shown up as the looser he is much earlier.
but like carr he dispears a lot when the going gets tought and io it looks like he is taking his time and relexing to get himself fit for turkey in the summer.
i would give ramage a new deal is he is a usefull squad player much more value for money than carr/cacapa

Emre is a creative player who doesn’t need to control the game from midfield, that can be left to Sir Kicky Butt.
I rate him highly for the options he creates and some of the unusual skills he displays when getting around other players.
Unfortunately, as everybody has rightly pointed out, he has a sicknote problem.
I’m inclined to agree with Tez131, give him until January to show that he can thread more than 3 games together. If he can manage that, he’s definitely worth keeping. If not, I’m sure he’ll be shown the door quick enough.

no point in keeping someone who is jst going to be injured all season. still rate him highly but he either gets fit and plys more games or leaves.

Emre is a good player when he is fit. I think we should keep him, he would be a good squad player. I have no doubt that KK will buy a top class creative midfielder, and a fit Emre would be good cover

This might be a coinsidence, but during the period SA was manager, we really had a lot less injuries. Also, the ones we got healed much faster. Then when KK was appointed we got a couple of players out with “minor” injuries right away, and they have needed much more time to heal than what was estimated at first. It may seem, thou, that we actually sacked a very good medical team during the change of managment. Anyone agree?

beat this dopaz, during 5 a side this numpty i was playing against couldnt keep up with me so he kicks my back leg away, resulting in my knee being turned over on twice, which gave me what a doctor who lives round the corner a C. Knee ligament damage. it was brused instantly.
i still played on for another 30mins haha… wasnt good driving home after though because the adrenoline had gone

Emre just isn’t good enough to be this perpetual ‘returning from injury’ guy.
When it’s the likes of Rooney fair enough - yes he breaks his f’in meta tarsel etc. every five mins but he’s worth paying for, sitting in a medical room until he’s fit; cos you know he’ll be awesome when he’s back. Emre will not./

Too expensive to have EMRE in our squad, becouse he always is injured or when he is not he makes something stupid and get’s himself banned with a red card!
Best would be to sell him in summer and bring in Van der Vaart for him!

emre is to me the most skillfull and elegant player in the squad..have watched him from when he was playing in turkey via inter to now in nufc/the national side..and yes, nobbys day, ive seen him dominating the midfield like barton&butt only wish they could…he´s perfect in the role as distributor to martins etc…selling him would be a huge misstake..know he´s been unlucky with injuries..but when fit, he ´s a starter in any top team in europe..!

Wouldnt like to sell any player until Keegan has had a try of working his magic on him.Its such a wasteful attitude to give up on a player without the new Manager being given time to assess him properly.
