Sunderland manager Roy Keane has heaped praise on Kevin Keegan, who of course has returned as manager of Newcastle United, who are Sunderland’s opponents on Sunday.

Keane said today:
“I was delighted to see him come back in, absolutely delighted.†“You see a lot of people in football, and a lot of people are maybe even losing their love for the game.â€
“I watched a reserve game the other night and it was absolutely shocking, just people going through the motions.†“What shouldn’t be underestimated, and I am not being disrespectful, is Kevin’s enthusiasm.â€
“It is absolutely brilliant and I love that. It was only a matter of time before they started getting back to winning ways.†“Football needs people like Kevin Keegan, trust me.”
“Any manager will tell you, it takes time. But unfortunately, managers do not get that time.†“Everyone needs to be patient and we are seeing that now even with Kevin Keegan. He has still only been back two minutes.â€
“But what Kevin Keegan has got, he has got great enthusiasm for the game and that is a vital component for any manager.†“The game can become very robotic, but what you see with Kevin is that he loves the game and that is rubbing off on his players.â€
“The players, particularly over the last few of weeks, seem to have been playing with great freedom and they seems to be really enjoying the game.â€
“If you want to be at the top, top level, you have got to enjoy being a footballer and you have got to enjoy the so-called pressures of the game.” “That’s why you have seen Newcastle playing so well over the last few weeks.”
We knew there was a good reason we liked the man.  
Good words from Roy Keane, who seems to have taken on a whole new and calmer persona since he became manager. Roy’s very interesting to listen to, when he’s talking about a game, and so very down to earth.
We’re not surprised to hear this from Roy, because when Kevin was appointed in mid-January, Keane had only good things to say about Keegan, and mentioned even at that time that football needed men like Kevin Keegan.
It’s certainly a very nice gesture from the Sunderland manager before Sunday’s game at St. James’ Park.
But Kevin will still want to take the red and whites to the cleaners, that’s for sure.

Hes got the passion though. Never had much time for him as a player, but he does demand respect and as ed says he seems to be a lot mellower now.

He just gobs off at people and used to kick people when they were defenceless like he did with Haaland, Stamped on Southgate when he was on the ground, Elbowed McAteer after walking up behind him, Mouthed off at Vieira but never backed up his words, He even backed down from Mad Mick when they had their arguments with the irish side.

I’ve a lot of respect for the lad, he’s very honest. I had when he was a player, was one of the best captains around, one of the best midfielders of his era, it most have been great playing with him an outstanding, down to earth, say it as it is captain, and a lot better then the likes were seeing today. Now even though he’s not a player anymore I find it hard to shake that respect I have for him..believe me I’m trying. For a second I’d be taken a back about how well he’s doing with Sunderland, that he got that excuse for a team up to the Premiership deserves praise. Hate the club with a passion, but you got to respect him as a manager. He’s done a great job..unfortunately.

Some of the people here are just bitter deep down. Roy Keane gave Keegan nothing but praise, and has been a supporter of our manager ever since his appointment in January. Even after this, alot of these so-called fans are abusing Keane… why? Because we have a match against his side on Saturday? Or because he played for Man U? It’s a shame that foul language and abuse has now replaced decency and well-balanced analysis and commentary. I, myself have never liked Roy Keane, but to make fun of him for praising Keegan is immature and definitely a qualifies as nothing more than a cheap-shot.
Now, these same people will now jump on me like Sumo wrestlers proclaiming that I’m a Mackem, or a Smoggie, and what not. Let me make it easier for the people who actually want to proceed in that line of argument… I bleed Black & White.

Mehzeb it may have escaped your attention but this is nothing to do with him playing for Man Utd, have a look who he is the manager of.
I class stamping on a fair player and a nice guy like Southgate while he is on the ground a cheap shot, Or elbowing Mcateer while his back was turned a cheap shot.
Keane was a great player and no doubt a good manager but he lost my respect well before the handbags with Shearer with his thuggish antics.
I would rather listen to Gentlemen like Martin O’Neill Steve Coppell and Rafa Bentitez who have supported KK from the start as well.

Yep he said that, I couldnt find it but i definately remember him slating Sunderlands fans somewhere in the book as well !!!
If anyone is wondering why i have Roy Keanes book it is because the lasses in WH Smith conned me into buying it as it is apparently the “most amazing book in soccer” which is an over inflated title as it was really poor.
A couple of petty bits about Jack Charlton, Mick McCarthy, Patrick Vieira and a rant about Wembley and that about it although as i said earlier on he is surprisingly complimentary abut NUFC.

i always liked Keano from his playing daysbut he blew it with me now that he manages the scum.
that said he really is setting the scum up for a defeat. On skysports he said something along the lines of : ” good form, tough game, players like Nicky Butt , Michael Owen, if the likes of Duff and Smith can’t get into the team it means that they must have a decent team there ..” and so on.
get used to it Roy, now that your possibly staying up there will be a lot of derby losses coming your way…..Keano…….

I think he has good motivational skills and would never take shite from players. He’d expect the best from every player and would not accept anything but 100% commitment - no matter how high profile the offender. For those reasons he is a good manager. I’d love to see what he could do with some money in his pocket and have no doubt that one day he will manage Man U if he continues to grow in his skills.
