  Clean sheets!!!!!!!! WOO!

  i hate seeing oba frustrated.

  there’s something odd about the link to arsenal he’s got. He’s just not composed enuf to be an arsenal player.

  But i’d like him to be a lot more unselfish and composed that would help his game. The one twos he had with owen is a good sign of good things to come as they improve.

  we lacked fluency at times.

  I think the players should pass the ball faster and more decisively. our players (espacially the back four) looked a bit slacking sometimes, instead of looking comfortable.

  Aye, lacked fluency, gave ball away too often. I fond that the players slacked a lot after the 2nd goal had gone in.

  A better team would have turned the tables around and put a couple past us…..

  Yeah composure lets him down significantly. He also lacks the vision, wears blinkers and frustrates his team mates when they are better poised to score he does not complete the pass but tries the impossible.

  Good pace work rate but intelligence allows for far better use of these attributes. That is why Owen is simply better.

  oba goes storming down the tunnel every tym he gets taken off .. dont like seeing it but thats him a spose

  wat a win means so much!! brilliant atmosphere nd gr8 idea them putting the coloured cards on everyone seats looked gr8.

  thought every played solidly .. beye was top class again owen worked hard again and wat a header. vid and oba were slightly subdued tbh but still solid performances. butt again brilliant in his role but there were a few too many misplaced passes from the midfield. as usual harper safe as houses and 1 gr8 save from jones.

  If oba watches how simple torres plays and learns from it, he’d be better than torres.

  Are we going to get a new kit again for next season? i remember this time last season, there was already news about the launch of our new kit.

  Wsq: Oba need not go as far as Torres. Simply learn from Michael Owen. Certainly if Arsenal want him and are prepared to pay the right price, Michael Owen seemingly ducked and weaved when asked about his future, We could be possibly losing out on both. Santa Cruz or Ruud Van Nistelrooy good replacements, no?

  Derby games are like cup games you very rarely get a flowing football match & classic games are very rare so i am happy with the three points. I dont think either Owen ore oba are going anywhere next season they will both be looking to be part of what is going on at S.J.P. my advice ignore the media and believe nothing untill you see it with your own eyes because the great british media will have us buying every single player in the world in a bid to out gues there rival papers

  Frankly, beating that bunch of second rate tramps and vagrants ranks up there with a) my first kiss b) my first beer and c) watching the sunrise over Mount Etna.

  We pummelled them in the first half. It looked in the second that we were holding off for health and safety reasons as they continued to kick us if we got close. They are diabolical.

  My only concern is that if we had the Man U mentality - we would have gone on to embarrass them with 5 or 6 goals. They are that bad. It’s something I’d like us to develop - a really nasty mentality, determined to grind opponents’ faces into the mud when it matters.

  Beye, Butt and Owen were awesome. Harper looked composed.

  Has Andy Reid got fatter since he joined them?

  Please don’t get me wrong because I’m thrilled with the win, but I am a little worried that we have not been very good the last two games. Is it me being overcritical or is something faltering a little with us?

  Great result, not a great performance, but so fook - we won and that’s all that matters!

  Just had a gander at the vote for motm - scary that 6 people on here think Oba was our best player.

  Cant blame Oba going down the tunnel, he worked his balls off, Viduka was rubbish today did nothing. So glad Keane was so stupid and played Jones upfront alone. Oh dear heres the Police as expected !!

  shirts — the Tottenham form wasn’t going to last, it was a remarkably good performance. More importantly, though, the lads have been winning whilst not playing to their best — a promising sign that there is still room for improvement in results & place on the table.

  Midfield was weaker today, with both Barton and Geremi having off matches (relative to form of late). Viduka looked knackered early, imo. Martins didn’t play particularly well for him, although he was moving a lot he didn’t make great decisions — back to playing with his head down. Still, the team got the two goals needed and kept another clean sheet. Good performances from Harper, Faye & Taylor, with better performances by Beye and Enrique. Butt’s defensive play was solid, but his distribution was poor, imo.

  Owen was, far and away, MotM. A great header to get the early goal, class movement, drew a lot of fouls (three yellow cards were fouls/penalties drawn by him), and harassed the defence the whole 90. Even took & scored a penalty, though it wasn’t impressive. When’s the last time Michael Owen took a penalty, let alone scored it? Last I remember was at Euro 2004 — he nailed his in the penalty shoot-out. Lad must’ve been proper nervous about that, so it’s good that it went in, get his confidence up on the penalties.

  Ratings:
  Harper — 7. Had more to do when looking at stats than it seemed during the match, and that can only indicate that he was composed and handled threats quite well.

  Beye — 8. Another solid, forward-looking performance from the right back. Turning into Mr. Consistent, which Newcastle sorely needs at the back.

  Faye — 6.5. Good, but not great. No major errors I can recall, but nothing spectacular. Was perhaps at fault for the best chance of the match, for Jones.

  Taylor — 7. Solid, and looking much more settled now that the back 4 are being allowed to coalesce.

  Enrique — 7. Good, but not his best. May have been hindered by a relatively narrow midfield, with little outlet in front of him (Barton nor Martins at their best).

  Butt — 6.5 Defensively good, but distribution poor.

  Geremi — 6. a great assist but…not much else.

  Barton — 6. I can’t remember him doing much, good or poor. Not his best match.

  Viduka — 6. Knackered early, didn’t contribute much, though a nice part of Owen’s play to get the penalty.

  Martins — 6.5. Lots of movement, but not much to show for it. Played with his head down, lost a few good scoring (one superb) chances.

  Owen — 9. A hat-trick would have earned him higher, but his control let him down early in the second half. Very forgivable, considering he did almost everything else right. Penalty was not impressive, hope for improvement on that in the future.

  @ shirts, Calm down. The sign of a good team is winning when not playing well. Manchester united have not been looking good in two of the past three games. The game against Portsmouth was away and against a side in the finals of the FA cup. Sunderland, well it is a Derby game you would expect both sides to go for the game, anything less would be unacceptable. Because a bottle of Champagne was not opened on the pitch should not be cause for concern.

  I think both the boys and keegan had a good game. Good substitutions and great to see Carroll and Edgar get a run out.

  Zog is obviously a goner and Smith and Duff must realise they have fallen quite far down the pecking order. I think well have a few out and a few in in no time
