Newcastle fans are now seeing why Michael Owen is so revered in England because of his goal scoring powers.
Michael Owen - great player when fit
It’s clear that a fit Michael Owen is worth a mint to any club, and if Newcastle can continued to keep him fit we have a match winner in Michael.
Michael is said to be taking special measures to ensure that his fitness and conditioning remains high to help prevent any repeat of the frustrations he had earlier in his time at Newcastle.
That will be very important that he continued this to ensure he keeps fir and available for the club. Michael’s appearances and goals over the last 3 seasons look like this:

So in 44 total appearances for Newcastle Michael has scored 19 goals. Obviously following the World Cup disaster in June, 2006, Michael was out for almost the whole of the following season, and appeared in just 3 games near the end.
Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper talked to day about Michael’s injury problems:
“It hasn’t been Michael’s fault that he’s been injured. I was watching the England game when he shattered his knee and when he broke his foot at Tottenham and you can’t hold it against someone when they’re unlucky with injuries,”
“We had a physio, John Green, who came in and worked with him one-to-one and Michael was out there all day, every day and he still does private sessions to keep his fitness up. He’s proved that when he’s been given an injury-free run what a class act he is.”
“His commitment has never been in doubt. When he was injured he worked his socks off and people don’t see what goes on behind the scenes. He requested a one-to-one physio, so he could get back as fast as possible.”
“People don’t see that maybe, but he’s proved on the pitch that he’s a leader and away from the pitch he’s proved the same and we must keep hold of him and I’m sure we will.”
“Michael is still a young man, only 28, it’s just that he’s been around for along time and who’s to say Michael’s best years aren’t ahead of him?”
Steve’s right to say that Michael is still young at 28 years old, and don’t believe the stories about him loosing his pace. He looked very very sharp on Sunday and whizzed past Sunderland defenders a couple of times like greased lightning.
Whereas Michael, because of his injuries, has not really earned his wages these last 3 years, he is now showing what a fit Michael Owen can do for Newcastle, and it looks very good to us. Keegan and Owen could be a dynamite pairing - it’s certainly looked that way these last 6 games.

Class is forever and hopefully Owen will stay at Newcastle forever. I too had my doubts but we must keep hold of this lad.

Never had my doubts… MO is class on and off the pitch. Most importantly on the pitch he scores goals.
Let’s sign him up long term and do what we can to keep him fit!

what happened to hanzemre and owen is class but the true test of how far we have come is that chelsea game. to be top class you need to play well against good teams and john terry are a different proposition to paul mcshane and nyron nosowrthy anc co.

Ed — not sure where to put this, but thought you’d be interested to know that Owen made the Actim Index Team of the Week. He had the second highest points total for the week (Ashley Young had higher) with 46 points.
Newcastle now have three players in the Top 100 Actim Index: Owen at 62nd (he’s averaged around 13 pts/wk when he’s fit — be placed a lot higher if he stays fit), Taylor at 74th and Butt at 90th.
