Nobby Solano - Newcastle Fans The Greatest

In a week when Titus Bramble had the cheek to slag off Newcastle fans, Nobby Solano has said they are the greatest.

Nobby Solano - hopes for good reception from fans

Nobby said today:

“Newcastle fans are the greatest.” “Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to say thanks to them when West Ham were up at St James’s Park earlier in the season because I was not in the squad of 16.”

“I was actually at the match, but because I was not involved I kept a low profile and stayed in the stands.” “But while I am not sure whether I will start against Newcastle on Saturday, I hope to be involved.”

“I would love to get the kind of reception Les Ferdinand always seemed to get from the United fans.” “If the Toon Army give me a good reception and then boo me as soon as I touch the ball – like they did with big Les – then that’s fine with me.”

“When I was at Newcastle I always did my best and I think they appreciate that.” “I am surprised if Titus said anything bad about them because they really are among the best in the world.”

“And in a way the fans down in East London are just the same.”

While Solano is looking forward to playing with Scott Parker against their former club, Kieron Dyer, Craig Bellamy and Lee Bowyer all have long-term injuries and will not play.

Nobby added:

“We have so many injuries here at West Ham that it reminds me of last season at St James’s, and it will be a tough game for both sides at Upton Park on Saturday.”

“After nearly being relegated last season we are hoping to finish in the top half of the Premier League this time round, and if we can beat Newcastle on Saturday we will probably manage this.”

“I have gone from being a Geordie boy to an Essex boy, but things have worked out well for me this season.” “However, I have to admit I do miss playing at St James’s, although I do not miss the weather up there.”

Good on Nobby. He was always popular on Tyneside, because he always gave his all, and was also of course a great great player.

Nobby will always be very fondly remembered by Newcastle fans for the wonderful service he gave to the club.

    i still love nobby, i want him back next season. he is another honoury geordie, i remember the day we signed owen, for all my life, everyone was screaming for nobby.

    Absolute legend, one of the best attitudes and personalties we’ve ever had, i certainly respect him as much as big les! i hope he plays again for newcastle as when he left he took that spark with him. he deserves to be played more at west ham! bu curbishly obviously knows best as hes done so well with a team tipped european favs back at the start of the season

    He will always be a Geordie IMO. Every time he gave himself 200% for the team and he was/is afantastic at set pieces.

    Nobby it was sad that you had to leave, but you deserve full credit for everything you have done for NUFC.

    Always will be remembered as a great player for the Toon.

    one of the best players i’ve seen pull on the black and white in my life. one of my favourite players of all time.
    nobby solano is a true legend, on the same scale as any of the others.

    if not as a player, i’d definitely welcome him back as backroom staff. great for morale and would be a great motivator too cos his love and dedication to the club will rub off

    Can you imagine his creativity and crossing accuracy when combined with our current front 3?

    Really miss the guy - shame he couldn’t keep it zipped. Nobby by name…

    What I love about this interview is the way he repeatedly says something gushingly positive about the Toon, then follows up with a highly unconvincing “but it’s ok down here too…”

    Love the guy. So missed.

    I know it’s off the subject, but has anybody noticed that Modric’s value has more than doubled in the last 24 hours?

    When news broke about this time yesterday the deal was going ahead for £12m. This morning I read it was £20m and now it’s gone up to £25m.

    Is any player really worth that much?

    Funny how the most undedicated drunks ever to don a pair of white boots, diamond earings and bleached hair are now clogging up the physio room at upton park. Anyone would think that drinking and partying all night every night would leave you unfit and susceptable to injury?

    Perhaps there is a nasty bug going round at the bentley continental drivers club.

    What a waste of space those 3 are. I actually feel sorry for the West Ham fans who will kid themselves into thinking that next time they are fit they’ll be brilliant.

    They won’t.
    Trust us we know…..

    Still remember him playing on the right with Laurent Robert on the left..Great player Nobby is who has a great vision when crossing or passing the ball with his great right foot technique and also has a great personality on and off the pitch..Doesnt deserved to be booed from our fans if he plays this Saturday match..

    He is one great player and person. i remember he don’t play for couple of games and never complaint about the manager devision instead he blame himself and try to work best on training….he is a legend. its hard to find a great player with a personality like that

    One of the last players of a bygone era. Dedication, drive, desire, all things that lack in most of the newer generation of players (look at someone like Zoggy for starters). I remember a pass that Nobby had at the beginning of the season for West Ham where he played a ball easily 35 yards from the outside of his right boot through a 3 yard hole of the defense and it landed right on Ljundberg’s boot - total class and sorely missed. More players need to look at someone like Nobby not only for his on field persona but what he does off the field as well.

    the goal nobby scored against everton with the outside of his right foot when roeder was manager must of been one of the best nufc goals i remember seeing.

    I will never forget the Chronicle’s headline after one Nobby winner for the Toon: ” Nobby’s the Jobby for Bobby!” And in that little purple patch when he, Aaron Hughes and, yes, Keiron Dyer were at their peak under Bobby, we played some of the best football in the post-Keegan (1st managerial) era. And if you look at the DVD of Alan Shearer’s goals for us, it’s astonishing just how many came from Nobby’s crosses and through balls. Along withPedro and Big Al, I think Nobby’s given more sheer footballing pleasure than any otherNewcastle player in the recent era.

    Ende… We have been screamin for a class playmaker all season, and now that we are actually in the race to sign one with the class of Modric, you would waste him as a wing?… Why on earth would we sign Deco if we get Modric, it seems like we just dont know when to stop… Ppl you should be over the moon if this goes through, and not think about all the other central midfielders we could ALSO get… Why stop at Deco? lets get Van der Vaart, Deco, Modric, Moutinho and Diego.

    You can sign a player whenever you want. They just dont join the first team i.e. training until july 1st.

    nobby, what a legend - I remember him playing here in Sth America for boca, in the late 90’s - not as good as he was at St James’ :D
