Newcastle are amazingly all square at 2-2 at half time against the Hammers at Upton Park this afternoon, after scoring 2 goals in the last 3 minutes of the half, after going 2-0 down at Upton Park.
20 year-old David Edgar was drafted in at the last moment for the injured Abdoulaye Faye this afternoon to make a very young central defensive partnership with 22 year-old Steven Taylor.
West Ham started the game strongly and after only 10 minutes went ahead when Mark Noble was in tons of room in the penalty area and the England under-21 star made no mistake striking the ball with his left foot beyond Steve Harper to give the Hammers an early lead.
How Noble got so much room is a mystery and the Newcastle players argue after the game as to who missed the assignment.
Newcastle are struggling early in the game to get any kind of midfield control and West Ham went further ahead when Bobby Zamora flicked on a long ball downfield, and 12 yards from goal Dean Ashton fired the ball home low past Harper, giving the Newcastle goalkeeper no chance.
Newcastle have started the game very poorly indeed, and have conceded in 23 minutes the number of goals they conceded in the last 6 games. We knew we shouldn’t have mentioned this morning how well the defense was playing!
Newcastle’s first attack of the game is after 36 minutes and McCartney, the former Sunderland player, heads clear from a Geremi cross.
Then after 42 minutes Newcastle pull a goal back to get themselves back into the game and it’s Oba Martins who chases a ball through from Joey Barton, and is completely clear. But Martins keeps his head beautifully as he pokes the ball past Robert Green to make it a 2-1 scoreline.
Then amazingly it’s like the Kevin Keagan days of old as Newcastle amazingly equalize on 45 minutes, just before half time.
West Ham fail to clear a Habib Beye cross from the right and the ball falls to Oba Martins who smashes it back into a crowded penalty area where Geremi turns the ball past Green with an instinctive header – and Newcastle United are level!
It’s Geremi’s second goal of the season and a great time to score.
At the half the score remains 2-2 but Kevin Keegan will still need to sort the lads out at the back as they were far too lackadaisical at the start of this game.
Newcastle must increase the tempo of their game even more – if we are to get the win, which is what we need.
Howay the lads!

He isn’t playing in a difficult league.

Chelsea will be the best test for KK.
It would be good if we beat them and that was why they lost the League
Chelsea will defo put out their best side which we want

54 The black in the blacknwhite // Apr 26, 2008 at 17:09
unbeaten in 7 aswell- the bubble hasnt burst yet- impressed with how we showed character to return from a 2- nil deficit - in months gone by we would have folded and emnity among players would have shown,
today- our heads didnt drop and we responded appropriately for ateam looking upwards not down.
our midfield is not dynamic enough- tho i say Barton is the only midfielder at the mo i would certainly start next season- his pass to Oba was sublime- Butt solid but passes backwards best- ok passing sideways- awful passing forward- a sweeper is his best role i would think
Geremi is a jammy player- because he is awful- but he get the luck of the green an undue amount and thus he does one telling cross or beats a man- when u thought certain he had lost the ball again- his sloppy passing almost cost us the game today!
im not moaning our offense is oncemore proving attack is the best form of defence for they nullified a weak early defensive performance
undeaten and happy, thats me
55 ToonKing // Apr 26, 2008 at 17:10
if we get Faye back for Chelsea we have a chance to get a good result, if not were doomed

Chelsea won so Avram will probably get manager of the month now. Keegan would probably be second
58 Ashton // Apr 26, 2008 at 17:17
Edgar was very solid at the second half i think he just lacks confidence
59 spyro // Apr 26, 2008 at 17:17
we have played poor for our last two games now guys, and mediocre for the game before, it is not something i want to see continuing when we host chelsea next week or it could get embarrassing. I hope they are knackered from their games against Man U and Liverpool. We need Faye as he leads by example in the back line and clears all things aerial.
60 Vitorbarbosa // Apr 26, 2008 at 17:18
Reach 43. Won’t make history this season.
61 Jase // Apr 26, 2008 at 17:19
Good lads the Geordies, they love their club like West Ham do.
Congrats on your draw, you know you have got the Keegan roller coaster in place.
Who knows….next season (for both of our teams).

I’d be happy to see us come on against chelsea and sit down on our arses and let them win anything would be better than listening to the scum fans after winning another league
Hope edgar’s ok
63 Alex // Apr 26, 2008 at 17:27
spyro it just shows how far we have come playing poor and getting results instead of a hammering .A couple of good signings and next season we will be in the race for europe .I would love to see us sign De Gusmann from Feyenoord
