Butt in Three Match Ban Fear

Wednesday April 30th, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 37 Comments

Nicky Butt’s yellow card on Saturday at Upton Park was his 14th yellow card of the season.

Nicky Butt - one more yellow card equals three match ban

And if Nicky picks up just one more yellow card then he will be banned for 3 games, starting next season.

But Kevin is not going to leave Nicky out of the team because of this, and he talked to the Evening Chronicle today about the situation:

“I’ll have a chat with Nicky about it all, but my feeling is that he’s a vital player for us.” “Nicky’s always the sort of player who’s going to get booked, because he’s competitive and tries to win challenges. He’s got to handle that.”

“When you’re doing as many tackles as he does over 90 minutes, you’re going to mistime some.”

Butt has already served two suspensions this season and has been banned for as total of 3 games.

But he illustrates the new Newcastle United and has a biting tackle in midfield and has played just great for the club the last couple of seasons.

Butt and the rest of the squad trained today and with the team not playing until late Monday afternoon, Keegan will give the squad the next two days off before they come in again on Saturday to prepare for Chelsea.

Comments very welcome.

Barton cannot play at Everton and possibly Butt will be suspended aswell so it will be intersting to see which team is picked for the last game of the season.

This problem may well continue next season, Butt another year older, Barton may well be locked up and Emre possibly gone (or still injured). Our central midfield really needs sorting out as a high prority imo.

Looking forward to KK’s transfers, I believe he will combine steady EPL proven grafters with some flair. Oba at the minute is our only real flair match winner as Emre is constantly unavailable.

Definitely need another DM and an AM

  • 3 Graeme // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:31

Well, Butt isnt going to start shirking tackles, thats for sure, so at least the management know he aint gonna be there!!!

He has been one of our best players consistantly over the last two seasons but a replacement should be brought in this summer. Next year may well be his last at this level and having a replacement already at the club would be good for the new guy as well as the club.

Emre should be shipped out asap - he doesnt play enough to justify his existance and there are so many good, younger players out there. A new engine room has to be one of the priorities during the summer.

  • 4 Carr is shite // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:33

i see us link with joaquin today. I’m not sure the truth in it.

  • 5 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:41

joaquin is shite i think, used to be class

  • 6 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:42

MO has got player of the month, QAULITY. well done micky

  • 7 Jimmie // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:43

Read about Joaqin on Tribal. Dont belive it but it would sure be a good buy if its true

  • 8 Leo // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:53

joaquin, i was waiting for that one, lol, doubt it will happen like…

i heard barton can now play in games in liverpool, im sure it was agreed at the most recent meeting in courts????

who cares if butt gets a suspension, if he is making a tackle and it goes off a bit we have to expect that just like keggy has said.

  • 9 Leo // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:55

well done michael getting player of the month, theyre will be an article soon where we can all say well done bloke.

  • 10 Faustino // Apr 30, 2008 at 13:56

Never believe a word Tribal says - pure bleet.

IHopefully Butt being suspended won’t be such a big deal if KK strengthens the squad in the right places. However, his turn of form has been integral to the Toon’s revival.

If we were given the choice, I think we’d all prefer Arshavin to Joaquin.

  • 12 ChrisL // Apr 30, 2008 at 15:32

I’d rather Butt sat out the last two matches that mean nothing then was banned for the 1st three of next season.

  • 13 Spyro // Apr 30, 2008 at 15:43

NO! Joaquin is MUCH better than Arshavin. Have you lot who really rate Arshavin ever properly seen him??? He is like Milner, he can do a number of things. e.g. shoot, run, do a bit of skill etc, but he doesnt specialise in any of those things.

  • 14 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 30, 2008 at 16:27

spyro- i have watched arshavin many many times and he is not like milner atall, wtf are you talking about. Name one good thing that bag of useless seaman joaquin has done this season, i hope he ends up at spurs. utter useless

  • 15 Faustino // Apr 30, 2008 at 16:37

Word is Mackems are in for McGeady. Bad news really if you thought he was coming here. Can’t imagine he’d turn down the chance of working with Keane/Quinn.

  • 16 tdt // Apr 30, 2008 at 17:18

they have keane/quinn, we have given/carr/duff, oh ye and KK, owen n hopefully shearer (as a coach/assistant) soon :)

  • 17 Charlie Bucket // Apr 30, 2008 at 17:47

Where are the football manager brigade today? I miss the random lists of foreign players who these people probably have never seen and wouldn’t recognise if they met them on the street.

  • 18 Faustino // Apr 30, 2008 at 18:06

    In here mate…

    http://nufcblog.com/2008/04/30/transfer-news/newcastle-transfer-news-today/

Apparently there are no good English players. lol

  • 19 Faustino // Apr 30, 2008 at 18:07

See your point tdt….but Keane and Quinn are total legends in Eire.

  • 20 Obafan // Apr 30, 2008 at 18:22

spyro - How can you say that Arshavin is just as good as Milner? Do you know anything or nothing about football? Arshavin is 50 times better than Milner, I would compare Joaquin to Milner. But on the other hand you are always opposite to the others so I don’t think we should mind your opinions.

  • 21 Tom_Toon // Apr 30, 2008 at 18:29

Jaoquin is quality if he can play like his last few seasons in Betis.

  • 22 Spyro // Apr 30, 2008 at 18:30

milner is like arshavin in the sense that neither player specialises at anything, instead they can do a number of things to an average standard. simple

  • 23 Tom_Toon // Apr 30, 2008 at 18:35

WHAT. Arshavin can do almost everything to a high standard. Milner can just do some to a poor standard, others to an ok standard and others to a good standard.

  • 24 Obafan // Apr 30, 2008 at 18:42

I think Arshavin has recently prooved that he is a talented player and that he is one of the leading players of Zenit. And ffs they are in the 1/2 finals of the UEFA Cup.

  • 25 Tom_Toon // Apr 30, 2008 at 19:01

We could get Klasnic on a free.

  • 26 Punk Skunk // Apr 30, 2008 at 19:15

    Arshavin all the way!..
    …No comparison!..

  • 27 Obafan // Apr 30, 2008 at 19:32

Tom_Toon - Klasnic has lost his finishing touch the last couple of seasons, so I would not be impressed by him. I think Gomis is the striker we should / will go for all the way. And that is a very good thing. I hope that we now will be able to secure the deal before other teams are going to join the battle.

  • 28 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 30, 2008 at 19:33

arshavin is quick and very good feet, also a great finnisher. not to bad at freekicks either.

  • 29 Tom_Toon // Apr 30, 2008 at 19:38

Lost his finishing touch in the past couple of seasons? He’s barely been playing. 6 goals in 12 since a bloody kidney transplant that has kept him out for almost 1.5 season, and on a free too.

Gomis. Now, he is nowhere near worth the 14 mil being quoted. He is 7 mil tops. He goals:to chances ratio is quite poor whenever ive seen him.

Obafan - Ill ask you this question: Who for a back-up striker. Klasnic on 30k a week who would probably score 10 goals a season off the bench and on a free transfer, or, 6 mil for Alan Smith on 60k a week who scores none and has a negative effect on our team?!?!?

  • 30 Punk Skunk // Apr 30, 2008 at 19:59

GG7, Arshavin takes a mean corner also!..

  • 31 grey man // Apr 30, 2008 at 20:39

Here’s my team for next season
    Hugh-Pugh-Barney Mcgrew.
    Cuthbert-dibble-grub
    Windy Miller.
    Bob the builder.
    Curly-larry-moe.
Basically who the feck knows. Speculate all you like but all you do is waste energy.

  • 32 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 30, 2008 at 20:46

yes he does actualy, good point, something we currently dont get. maybe one corner in 4/5, but we need someone with great delivery like ashley young and barry do for villa. id love barry to be our holding midfielder.

  • 33 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 30, 2008 at 20:58

    anyone watching the game?

  • 34 marcus owen // Apr 30, 2008 at 22:12

This season is over, don’t risk butt for the last two games. change the formation to:

    ————-Harper
    —–Beye–Taylor– Edgar(If Faye still injured)
    Geremi———————Enrique
    —–Milner–Owen–Barton
    ——–Viduka—-Martin

    Subs:Forster,Carroll,Duff,LuaLua,Diatta

  • 37 scotty // May 1, 2008 at 20:59

I’d like to think that we will be significantly investing in MF next season. So much so, that i hope Butt is more of a squad player. Not that i don’t like him - he’s been a revelation for me this season - but we need to be looking at better.
