Habib Beye As Fit As He’s Ever Been

Friday May 2nd, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 14 Comments

The most popular player Sam Allardyce signed for Newcastle United last summer was former Marseilles captain Habib Beye.

Habib Beye - as fit as he’s ever been

The right back has not only played very well for Newcastle in his first Premier League season, but he is also a very popular guy on Tyneside.

Maybe it’s his do or die attitude, or just his great play defensively and when he attacks down the wing, but all in all he’s had a tremendous first season at the club.

And Beye likes everything about the club and the City of Newcastle, and has already expressed his desire to stay long term at the club beyond 2010, when his current contract runs out.

Habib talked to Newcastle World TV today:

“I may be 30 now but I feel great and certainly don’t feel my age,” “I have worked very hard this year to adapt to the physical demands of the English league and now I feel as good as ever.”

“I am enjoying my football and playing well and feel I have a lot of years left in me at the top level.” “But also the team is now doing a lot better and the spirit is good among the lads.”

“West Ham on Saturday was a very good game and was exciting to play in. We showed great character to get back in to it.”

“Now we have another big game on Monday against Chelsea and, because they are still going for the league, it will also be an exciting game for the players and the fans.”

We think another season like this one in the next campaign and Kevin Keegan will be only too willing to extend Habib’s contract beyond 2010.

nd we don’t think we’ve seen the best out of the Senegal International yet, either - we think he’s that good.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Beye is without doubt a world class right-back. Allardyce was elated when he signed him and we can see why.

If he wasn’t 30 we would be fighting off clubs like Real and Milan to keep him.

Personally I would drop Geremi to right back and have Beye on the right side of midfield because his attacking play is excellent.

Like longshanks Beye is now my favorite -replacing the great Nobbster.Just a pity we didn’t get him 10 years ago!

However evidence if it was needed that you DON’T need to spend big to get quality. Good scouting will spot ability and character. Beye has both in spade loads.

Top top man - it always fills me with pride when players come from abroad and say how much they love the team and the city because I think in our darker days we can sometimes forget how truely great Newcastle is as a city, how great the club is and how great our supporters are.

    The TOON rocks!!!

if he continues this display he’d be my only candidate to have his name on my newcastle jersey.

no one else in the team has warranted so much praise.

habib is my newcastle hero atm
