This is Newcastle’s last home game of another disappointing season, and Keegan is very anxious that his players give the loyal Newcastle fans a good performance this afternoon.

Newcastle fans - deserve a good performance from the lads today
Keegan said:
“It’s a fantastic end of the season for us because if we weren’t playing Chelsea and Everton – which is another game that will count for something – there is a danger that you would just want to get things over with.”
“But we can still go up a couple of places in the table if results go fantastically our way.”
“Chelsea will expect to come here and get something, but we have got a good record against them at St James’ Park over the past few years, so that will be an inspiration to us.”
“We need a performance against Chelsea. We need to show ourselves in a good light and we need a Tottenham-like game and this, with the crowd behind us, should make it a heck of a match.â€
Newcastle do need a point from their last two matches to make sure they pass their lowest points total of 43 in the Premier League, which came last season, and a couple of seasons before that, in 2005, we ended up with 44 points under Grame Souness - so a win in one of our last two games will clear us of those dismal totals.
Far better be this afternoon.
