Keegan - If Newcastle At Their Best, Who Knows?

May 5th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 15 Comments

Kevin Keegan is so looking forward to the game this afternoon against Chelsea, and while he doesn’t say it outright, there’s nothing better he’d like today than for his team to beat the Blues on merit this afternoon.

Kevin Keegan - dreaming of a win against Chelsea today

Kevin Keegan said this morning:

“We are not thinking about our holidays and we are not thinking ‘Let’s just get this season over with’ so then we can start thinking about next year.”

“We are thinking about how can we test ourselves in the best way possible against this team.”

“But if we play to our best and they feel ‘Wow, this is another big game’ after two big games against Liverpool and Manchester United, then who knows?”

“That is the fascination of the Premier League.”

It will be important for the Magpies to start strongly this afternoon, and not go down to an early goal as we did against West Ham last time out.

But Chelsea players could also be nervous, given the magnitude of the game, so the first 20 minutes will be very important.

Certainly, an early Newcastle goal would raise the roof on St. James’ Park and stir some souls in the City of Manchester, that’s for sure.

Comments very welcome.

Chelsea are a moneybags team. Posh commodities. They have not got the heritage of Newcastle and Tyneside - neither players or fans. They are a machine composed of good players that can be beaten. Let’s do it today. Who were they, where were they, until some Siberian oil baron turned up? Since when was west London ever representative of industry and civilisation as Tyneside was? Stuff them today. And let’s hope the referee can see through their continental tantrums and cheating. Don’t over water the pitch - it will only encourage Drogba to dive in the box.

I think out of the both set of players, ours will be the most relaxed, and like Alex if we score an early goal I can see Chelsea crumpling. Haway the Lads 2-0, Martins and Owen to score

I’m not a big Alan Smith fan but I do hope he comes on for Viduka in the 2nd half as I feel he may have a point to prove!

Watched Alves on YouTube. He is one tough player. He is nicknamed the “Karate Donkey” and no stranger to giving the Glasgow kiss either. If we had such an uncompromising player as that we would be playing with 10 men all too often. Wish we had him just for today!
