Steven Taylor picked up man of the match for his solid performance yesterday afternoon.

Steven Taylor - voted man of the match yesterday
Steven Taylor told the Evening Chronicle today:
“We were all delighted with the first half.” “We put in a good team performance.” “Personally, I thought we passed them off the park.”
“It was a good all-round performance in the first half.” “But then in the second half we didn’t pass it well and didn’t create enough.”
“And I think once the first goal went in, which was soft, it was massive kick in the teeth for us because we didn’t get going after that.”
“When that goal went in maybe heads went down.”
Things at half time looked good and not unlike previous games where the lads came on strong in the second half. But that didn’t happen yesterday as Chelsea came out and moved into a higher gear.
It turned out that Newcastle’s chance of victory had been lost with the half chances we failed to put away in the first half.
That’s something that is so true in football, if you don’t take your chances when they’re there, anything can happen.
Taylor continued:
“Chelsea are joint top of league because they have top-quality players and they don’t give many chances away.”
“We knew it would be hard.”“And if you don’t take your chances, they will.”
Taylor picked up the man of the match award after his impressive game at the back where he had at least three great blocks in the second half, before Ballack got the all important goal after 61 minutes.
But Taylor played Didier Drogba, the Ivory Coast star, very well indeed, and must have impressed many who watched the game. This boy is a good player and a star of the future for Newcastle.
Taylor added:
“Didier Drogba is a world-class player.” “But I just got up and got on with it.”
“It’s a man’s game and it was a good physical battle which I enjoyed.”
The bottom line on the game yesterday is that we couldn’t live with Chelsea in the second half. If we had managed to be 2-0 up at half time anything would have been possible, but Chelsea are not flat for 90 minutes - yesterday they were flat for only the first 45 minutes.
And we just didn’t take the chances that were offered to us.
Comments welcome.

It’s what I have been saying for some time any defender worth his salt will attempt to face up to shots and try and block them. On this basis Taylor is worth many blocks of salt not like a potential target who I wouldn’t give a crisp for. I don’t want to say his name again as repetition becomes boring.
2 Steven Carr you fat piece of shit // May 6, 2008 at 14:43
carr and ramage have gone i am cracking open a bottle of dirty old cider that is definately reason to celebrate.

Taylor stood up and got counted. He will be a great CB one day. I reckon England squad sooner than later. NUFC captain one day? He
seems to be another Moncur. And we won a trophy with him marshalling the back. I have a query - who reckons KK, Mort and players log in to this site?
4 Bill F // May 6, 2008 at 14:55
Eric I’m sure some do, I certainly would if I was a player. They probably have a good mutter about some of us during training. I would bet that some of them are contributors.
5 HeronMag // May 6, 2008 at 15:04
Taylor has been good this season but a little inconsistent. This is understandable when you consider his age.
By the time Taylor hits his mid-20’s we could have a top class centre-half on our hands. Keep hold of him KK. A local lad with a lot of heart.
6 Hamas (51times) // May 6, 2008 at 15:08
Owen missed some very good chances, just wasn’t our day.
And Bill F you’re spot on, it’s me, Smudger!
7 James // May 6, 2008 at 15:20
Taylor did very well yesterday. We all give him stick from time to time. But remember the lad is still only 21. And it can’t be easy bearing the attacks on our goal for a 21 year old with no one of experience alongside him to learn from.
We lost the game for 2 reasons :
1. Owen had left his shooting boots at home for a change.
2. Viduka had to be replaced by Smith, turning us into 10 men against 11.
8 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 15:28
If any of the players do read this site let me be the first to congratulate you on another wonderful season for the toon. Before stevie carr leaves could someone please ask him if his dream move to a big club was a good decision. Its just funny how he was at one of the biggest clubs in europe yet he gave it up for mid table mediocrity. Still i am sure he was cheering on his former teammates in europe as well as when they lifted the carling cup. Oh well hindsight is a wonderful thing and i suppose if every newcastle fan had it they would all be supporting winning clubs who will win something in there lifetime.
9 Graeme // May 6, 2008 at 15:37
Bringing Smith on was the turning point of the game, without doubt. He came on and we lost all focus and direction as he was unable to provide the outlet the Duke had done.
Smith should be on the departures list - he is simply not good enough to play for NUFC - no matter what MA thinks!!
He would probably be OK back at Leeds.
10 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 15:40
i disagree graeme. smith is probably to good for newcastle. dunne will be an excelent signing also
11 Hamas (51times) // May 6, 2008 at 15:44
*sigh* F*cking yids are still at it? Yes, Tottenham are so big that Berbatov used you to show himself off so he could move to a proper big club. A gooner mate of mine was right when he said that Tottenham is a club that nobody else in England likes. No neutral fans at all.
Oh btw, 4 - 1
12 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 15:56
Sums newcastle fans up, when all you have to boast about from your season is victory against a spurs team with nothing to play for. yet we can boast another piece of silverware and another european campaign.Woodgate won more in a season than newcastle have managed in 30.
13 Hamas (51times) // May 6, 2008 at 16:04
Forgotten the 3 - 1 victory early in the season where Jenas went missing and only that overrated Irish trash Keane was able to put in a half-performance?
Gazza once said in private to a mate of his that he’d never seen as many wankers in one place until he went to White Hart Lane (which is a small, crumbling wreck of a ground only good enough for a small club like Spurs).
14 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:09
results or lack of results against newcastle mean nothing to me. i only care about playing good football and winning. i guess you have heard the news that spurs will be building a bigger stadium in the near future which will put us even further beyond your reach. i hope you enjoy the transfer window over the summer. it looks as though it will be an exciting time with players of the calibre of Dunne and Bullard being signed.
15 Rich // May 6, 2008 at 16:10
Another european campaign? Well done, you’re in europe again. Forgotten that over the last 10 or so years we’ve been in the champions league and generally competing abroad far more?
New stadium in 2012…still not as large as St James’.
16 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:12
And please dont kid yourselves that newcastle are a big club. I think your signings in the summer should bring it home to you that you are lucky to even be in the premiership. There are much bigger clubs such as nottingham forest in the divisions below.
17 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:14
Ah but rich, we charge nearly double the price for tickets so a 50000 stadium will produce the revenue of man uniteds ground
18 Spot The Zebra // May 6, 2008 at 16:14
Viduka proved his worth when absent yesterday.Smudger should be moved on to a Championship club as soon as possible because he is becoming more and more of a liability.A striker who cant score, a midfielder who cant compete or a defender who cant defend from free kicks. Please get rid.
19 tdt // May 6, 2008 at 16:15
high ticket prices are not something to be proud of asshole
20 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:16

21 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:17
We can charge higher prices because we are generally richer than you lot up north.
22 tdt // May 6, 2008 at 16:18
ha u said it, spurs r a shit club, the illusion that they r bigger than newcastle is quite amusing.
when was the last time spurs play in the champions league? anyone?

24 tdt // May 6, 2008 at 16:21
Petty arguement pal, I’m not going to dignify it with a response. and because I am a law student in Scotland, it makes your comments, to me, even more idiotic.

26 Hamas (51times) // May 6, 2008 at 16:22

Seeing as i am worth a couple of mill i think my argument still stands up!
28 Rich // May 6, 2008 at 16:24
It’s ridiculous really that this always happens. Does it make your day coming on here and arguing with toon fans?
Tottenham have had an exceptional run in the cup for one year and suddenly they’re a bigger club than Newcastle? In regards to history, heritage, finance, support (I could go on) Newcastle are a big club, and it’s silly to argue against it. Both clubs will finish higher up the league next season and the fight for 5th-6th will be exciting because Everton, Villa etc will be around too.
But don’t come on here trying to hide your disappointment in this season’s league performance by ridiculing us. If KK had been in charge all season you’d be looking up at us.
29 tdt // May 6, 2008 at 16:26
haha and I’m the queen of Sheeba. The arguement that your club is better because you charge higher ticket prices is stupid, I would be ashamed of my club if they charged loads of money like you are suggesting.
30 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:26
We are known throughout europe as a cup winning side with success home and abroad. We are known for having had some of the greatest players to have played the game(one or two that left you to join us). Newcastle are known in this country for 1 season where they blew a 15 point lead to lose the title. In europe you are about as poular as accrington stanley.
31 tdt // May 6, 2008 at 16:29
spurs win 1 cup, and suddenly there successful “at home and abroad”? haha the joys.

Don’t get too carried away about calling prices charged in London for tickets. I was in a seat yesterday that cost £62
Fine. This guy calling himself “shearer” is bit of a knob, however it’s really not worth getting into slanging matches with a troll. Just don’t respond.
35 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:34
tdt. for someone who is studying law you really are as thick as shit. Where did i say my club is better because we charge more. We are better because we have a bigger worldwide fan base, we have won more trophies, we win something every decade, we have had the better players, we have a more passionate and more vocal support. Before you argue with my last point , sunderland were recorded to have the most vocal and we were second. Your supporters go on about playing the newcastle way, but you only played good football for that one season where you blew up and lost the title. You are a yo yo club at best who are not known for playing good football, apart from one season 10 years ago. Spurs have always been known as a good footballing side. Whenever commentators mention the big boys, or managers in the lower leagues name the big teams they would like to draw in the cups, i have never once heard newcastle named.

If our so-called admin did anything but post articles from tribal he’d get a few moderators to clean up the comments. Hell why even do that, just get them to approve or disapprove comments before they’re posted. That way bored Yiddos in their north London slums (I’ve been to tottenham and it’s a horrible place) won’t be able to bother us.
38 e // May 6, 2008 at 16:38
lol you mong newcastle have been in the champions league 5 times in the last 14 years and eufa 4 times, you have been in eufa cup 2twice in last 10 years? yes you are a massive club and you are bigger than newcastle…….

40 Rich // May 6, 2008 at 16:39
Bigger worldwide fanbase? Cough up the figures and we’ll talk, but I’m pretty sure you’re wrong. As for support you’re talking out your ass. So Sunderland can scream at a higher dB count, so what? Do 52,000 of them turn up week in, week out whether the sun is out or the team is losing?
41 shearer // May 6, 2008 at 16:42
the only people who support newcastle are the ones who are unfortunate to live in newcastle. Having said that it is always nice for a stag doo to see how the other half live and to shag your loose women.

Nothing satisfies me more than watching a Yid cry and lie to himself about his crappy club. Believe us all when we say that almost every fact you’ve told us is fabricated or absolute luck.
As Rich said about the dB count; NUFC fans are at SJP come rain or shine and we’re always behind the club regardless of our winning or losing streak.
Just promise us all that you’ll never reproduce and pass your (rather dirty) gene pool on to future generations. Better still, to prevent any ‘accidents’, just take your face off with a 12-gauge.
50 Obafan // May 6, 2008 at 17:04
Taylor played very good yesterday and has all right to argue about the first goal. Smith was not paying attention and Ballack was able to put his header simply away.
I gree we lost because:
1. we were not able to put away our fantastic chances
2. we were unlucky (Martins his bomb just next to the post)
3. Smith who had to come on for Visuka; I hope they finally see that he is useless.

Taylor played well yesterday if he played like that more regularly i wouldnt have a go at him so much. He does come across as a big head with a huge ego and spends much of his spare time talking to the media but i do believe he will get a new 5 year contract for the amount he wants and he will go on to captain the side after Owen leaves. It wouldnt suprise me if he stayed for the duration of his career. I do hope he proves me wrong and becomes the great player a few believe he will.

Lads I think Smith is getting a lot of undeserved stick for that first goal , far as i can see Butt didn’t stay with his man. I play Sunday morning in the parks and you can’t let your man just drift away like that. At least Smith made an effort to challenge for the ball, while the others just looked on. By the way Newcastle United is still big over here in Dublin!! there’s also a few Spurs fans too though, I love playing them as we are guaranteed at least 4 points/season , my dream FA Cup final Toon v Spurs anyone?
and my fav Big Al goal , that rocket in the ‘99 Semi, and they took Goldfish bowl boy off of our hands, Come on you gotta love em!! Now if only Robbie Keane could play good for Ireland….
74 Obafan // May 7, 2008 at 9:44
ToonKing - I agree with you. KK was so enthousiastic a couple of weeks ago and since the defeat against Chelsea he looks everything but certain that we will be able to attract the quality players. I hope that things between KK and the board get solved soon, cause we need to be focussed on the transfer market. To be succesfull every nose has to point the same direction and it seems that is not the case ATM.
